Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

I’ve noticed that with DC, that even though they swing and miss often, whenever they have a hit, they knock the damn ball out of the stadium. The Dark Knight/Rises was a global phenomenon, Wonder woman a global phenomenon, Aquaman although somewhat mixed in reception became the biggest DC movie of all time, and now Joker likely going to be the most PROFITABLE DC movie of all time and global phenomenon that is on everyone’s tongues.

I think The Suicide Squad is next to be the next huge thing for them.

Honestly, if he's not going to actually be a full-blown Joker pitted against Batman, then as great as Phoenix was, I'd rather Joker be a one and done stand-alone. Just let the viewer have their own "choose your own adventure" interpretation of what comes next, whether he's just a guy named Arthur Fleck with a clown fetish in an elseworlds stand-alone where Batman never exists, whether he inspires "the real Joker", whether he goes on to be Full Joker fighting Batman, etc. Don't ruin the open-ended ambiguity with an underwhelming follow-up where he doesn't ascend fully into The Joker.

even here in Japan Joker already surpassed Rises and is on track to be the biggest DC movie since Batman 89.

For the second time.

Its NOT making a billion. It will probably miss the $900 mil mark as well.

Its in its 2nd week not 1st.

The OS market will collapse sooner than the US cause it opened days earlier.

Looks like its probably beating Deadpool 1 & 2 for the #1 R Rated film of all time but thats about it.

$760-850 mil WW.
LOL. Even if Joker starts dropping 50% everywhere 800+ is absolutely locked. More than likely 300+ in North America happens and decent chance it surpasses both BvS and Squad. 1 billion is unlikely but no reason why it shouldnt finish with 930-950M WW.

This needs to be a done in one. I mean, this clearly was meant to be a singular experience and not a franchise starter. I loved this movie but i do not want more of it. Just like Taxi Driver. Leave it alone.

Definitely agree with this.
Not everything needs a sequel.
This movie is much more affective as a one shot. I’d rather just imagine where things go next. :funny:

Whether we get a sequel or not, I have little doubt that this is the last we see of Phoenix as the Joker
He really seems to want to play the character again though.

The only way to do a sequel is if it has Batman. Could you do a sequel of Arthur in the asylum or whatever? Sure, but it'd be pointless. There's nothing new to say at that point. If you have Batman, you can at least introduce new themes and ideas and perspectives this film didn't necessarily have.

Which is why the only way I see it happening is if he plays a different version of the Joker for Matt Reeves Batman trilogy

Word through the grapevine is that WB is looking to remove the Hey Song from the home release of the movie.

When your actor is seeking more, and the audiences are clearly embracing this new take, it would be an absolute waste not to try.

Joaqin's not the type to take a paycheck, so if a proposed follow-up has a script which is appealing and has a new way for him to once again take the character to new heights, what exactly is the issue? To protect the sanctity of the first movie? Good movies don't get worse because of bad sequels. I'd be more willing to bet if a second movie gets made it will be for all the right reasons anyway.

As much as I hated that song, that would be weird. I expected it in fan edits, but not so soon on home release.

So dumb. Just leave it as is. If they had no issue with the theatrical release then why remove it from the home video release?

Gary Glitter is a POS and what he did is inexcusable, but why can’t some people learn to separate the art from the artist?

I hope WB doesn’t give in and leave the movie as is

Probably doesn't sit well with them that he's making money off of it.

In that case let’s go back through 20-30 years of movies & shows that have used that song and remove it :whatever:

We can start with The Office

A sequel can work without Batman. I envision a franchise without any costumed heroes saving the day.

You could follow up with Joker gaining a cult following of freaks and outcasts, and a young Jim Gordon vowing to bring them down. It has to expand upon the themes introduced in the original.

So say for example, off the top of my head, the police are lead to believe they're on the trail of the Joker and corner him at a warehouse or that Pogo's comedy club. And when they approach him, it's not Fleck but rather an impersonator. It's Basil Karlo, who is and isn't Clayface. He rants to the police that he's dying off AIDS and was abandoned by Hollywood (running with the 80s fear and the theme of the original, as well as incorporating Grant Morrison's depiction of the Preston Payne Clayface as walking AIDS), and that he wanted to play the role of a lifetime for the one person who understood him (rolling with the real-world anxiety that the media and tabloids had about Joker inspiring copycats), before blowing everybody up inside the building, thus putting a dent in the police force as part of Joker's plan. An example of those drawn to Joker.

I was watching Bodyguard on Netflix and thought Richard Madden's role would work for a young Jim Gordon trying to take the Joker and his band of copycat terrorists/anarchists down, while also becoming a target along with his family. Dunno. Just my two cents.

I'm pretty sure it was stated he isn't. I think an article was posted here about it. Even CBR clickbait refuted it I think.

Well unless they ban it from sporting events it won't really make a difference. To be honest I had no idea nor cared who sung that song until today.

i'm not sure it is a good idea to have two different Batverse on big screen simultaneously.

Just came back from seeing it and it was wonderful. :D

Actually, do we know Gary Glitter is even making money off of that song? If the record company actually owns it, he won't get a dime.
