Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

I defended Leto and Ayer’s vision in general. And while i dont hate Suicide Squad at all, I really did not like leto’s Joker and idk if thats more of a Leto thing or how he was directed.
Leto gave us glimpses of gay Joker, which in the movie's context is bad, but appropriate if facing Batman. When he sat on the security officer's lap, it was genuinely creepy.

The thing is, I actually could get a behind a neo-punk aesthetic for The Joker. But the tattoos took it too far into Cartel territory for me.
Agree. It was actually the reason I was excited initially for Letoker.

I didnt take that as him being gay, i took that as Joker just being wacky Joker.

Wacky maybe, but that scene oozed gayness. Not necessarily a bad thing though.

In case of Leto, I think his performance was bigger offense than his looks.

I think both were bad. It was literally a case of what you see is what you get. Its as bad as it looks.

Leto could have been a great Joker, but instead we got an abomination.

There was an opportunity to take Joker into new territory with his looks like neo punk or something futuristic in a way. We usually see him wearing rather formal or classy outfits. Of course it failed in the end as sum of all things. Bad script, bad acting, bad costuming. Just saying that I hated his performance more than his looks. At some point he even wears a tuxedo, which is straight from the comics, and it still didn't save awful writing and acting.

"His latest claim is that he's possessed by Baron Ghede, the voodoo loa."

That's a line from A Serious House on Serious Earth, and for whatever reason it's always stuck with me. That could make for an interesting aesthetic for Joker.

Watched this last night and loved it, it is also a movie that seriously sticks with you.

Scariest thing about movies like this and Taxi Driver though, is when not only do you see something like this totally happening in the real world, but you also see a bit of yourself and even relate to the main characters at times. It genuinely shook me a little when I did.

Blame Frank Miller or my young impressionable mind at the time but I've always been partial to an androgynous, effeminate Joker. Joaquin started leaning into that a bit during the Murray show and I thought it was brilliant.

Judging from Dallas Buyers Club I thought Leto was going to be great precisely because of his fearlessness of going there. Take all that extra crap off and he would be the most comic accurate portrayal to date. And that comic accurate Joker is still there to be made one day...

Leto played himself. A *****e. (Really like him as an actor, though, looking forward to "Morbius")

Leto is like the new Nick Cage or Cuba Gooding Jr. Wins an Oscar and then torpedoes his career with poor choices (well, just one poor choice really, but oh what a bad one).

Joker currently at $606,7 mil WW.

Thats not including Thursday grosses and probably Wednesdays OS numbers as well.

I think my $760-850 mil WW guess will be off by a bit.

I still dont see how $1 billion is likely. I would even bet against it.

But $900 mil is getting more likely by the minute.

I'm guessing some WB exec is backing a dumptruck full of money up into Phoenix's driveway right now.

Yup. Exactly. Since he is our protagonist, you have a natural inclunation to want to try to sympathize or root for him. Like Walter White, even when he does bad things, you try to justify it in your mind until it gets to a point where you cant justify it anymore and you realize you have been rooting for a rotten human being this whole time. I really reflected on myself after I left this movie, any film that can do that is a big success imo haha

Truly remarkable. I always felt this movie would be a big hit but I never thought it'd top this list. Guess we can officially put to rest the idea that audiences just don't want dark comic book movies.

Work has been crazy so I haven't gotten the chance to see this in theaters yet unfortunately but I'm excited to catch it in a matinee in a few weeks or, worst case scenario, I'll buy it day-of when it comes out on digital.

Considering how it's a vampire movie, I personally hope it's R-rated. Looking forward to it. I enjoyed "Venom", like Daniel Espinosa and think that Leto is a much better fit for Morbius than the Joker.

Sony should now learn that audiences will show up for a good film regardless even if it's Rated-R.

Arad being so adamant on Venom being PG-13 is ridiculous, even more so now that Carnage, one of the darkest and most violent Marvel villains is in the next one.
