Joker is a decent movie that came out in the right time. I'm not excited for any sequelitis regarding this type of movies.

Phillips was reported to have met with Warner Bros. film chief Toby Emmerich, but one source says that no meeting took place and that Phillips did not pitch plans for other DC villain origin stories. Another individual says that any talks are preliminary at best.

he is open to the idea but only if it has thematic resonance and not a sequel just cause original made money todd is busy promoting the film and doing Q&A's at the moment

Funny how all the ones debunking are only debunking the meeting, signed deals, other films in the works...

None of them have come out and debunked Justin Kroll's preminary talks on Joker sequel.

Clearly one of the parties got in touch with the other after it made a freaking billion and said something like "about that sequel/idea from last year..." and it's a wait and see situation now

Variety confirmed THR's scoop. That's 2 to 1, now.

Deadline might be facing some egg on their faces, or come out triumphant from this trio. I can't think of the last time trades openly dismissed each other's scoops.

The "clickbait" line makes me think there's some beef unrelated to the scoop between the writer and some folks at THR .

That said , I do think that this is a case of different sources hearing different things .

I tend to think Variety and THR got it right since it sounds very much like the type of thing WB would do. Its in character .

I think it will happen...i don't think THR got it right though. I think they heard there was talk and assumed (like many of us). It was likely so they ran with it. They will likely be proven right even though it was a click bait guess.

'Joker' Sequel in the Works as Todd Phillips Eyes More DC Origin Movies (Exclusive)

Phillips on the issue today

“Yeah that was written about today, and I have to be honest, it came out of nowhere. It referred to a meeting that was never had,” Phillips admitted, confirming Deadline’s story. “I thought it was anticipatory at best. Obviously, sequels have been discussed when a movie that cost $60 million made $1 billion, but we have not had any serious conversations about it.”

Phillips went on to describe the practicalities of negotiations that must be put into place before sequel talk can move beyond speculation. “We don’t have a deal with Joaquin, they don’t have a deal with me and the writer. I don’t know where that came from, honest to God,” Phillips professed. “It’s a hard thing to refute when you don’t have a Twitter account, and you’re not really out there. You just go, ‘Ok, this will disappear in 24 hours, let’s move on.’”

So there's confirmation to Justin Kroll's "preliminary discussion" and all debunking are saying no meetings and contracts are in place, but none denied there were discussions as it marched to a billion.

THR's source probably heard a bunch of whispers like Lex/Darkseid movies and Todd getting another 1-2 movies, told the reporter who didn't verify with other sources and just reported it.
