"The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached?

Physically he didn't embody comic Joker when he did get the role. They also played his age into the role by making him the killer of Bruce's parents.

That was actually part of the plan in pretty much every Batman script that was seriously considered for production, dating back to Tom Mankiewicz's 1983 THE BATMAN screenplay. Well, The Joker was behind the murder anyway, if not the actual perpetrator. Although it's possible they always wanted Nicholson, I suppose.

Decided to spend my Halloween on decoding Jared Leto's latest tweet ( https://***********/JaredLeto/status/925171113939812352https://***********/JaredLeto/status/925171113939812352): ) after looking closely (and finding Detective Comics #168 - the origin story of the Red Hood identity + Bermejo's Joker which is sort of a new origin for the Clown Prince of Crime too), I wonder is this a reference to a Todd Phillips Joker spin-off or is it about Matt Reeves' film, or perhaps a prep. for Ficarra & Requa's Mad Love adaptation?

Or, perhaps, I am overthinking it & maybe just some leftovers from Jared's 2015 preparation for Skwad? Any thoughts, possible suggestions?

Joker could easily carry his own film, but I'm interested in where
they actually take the story. It's marketable, but it'd be so weird too.
Which isn't, totally, a bad thing. In a sense, it'd be refreshing.

"Multiple choice!" - that's what is required of them. It's kind of like what they did in the comics (with Alan Moore tackling that issue in the Killing Joke) & then with Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight, but this time around, instead of him just telling frightening, fabricated (or not) stories to his enemies before disposing of them, you can actually visualize them in all sorts of creative & imaginative ways. That's what I would do, personally. I think that it will be a major mistake, shall they only concentrate on ONE side to the Joker's story (like that one rumor that, apparently, he is a very angry kid from Brooklyn with a glasgow smile).

I saw a video with Justin Kroll on YouTube and he said he's heard the budget for the film will be around $80-100 million. Would post the video, but there's some language.

Sounds good. I'm kind of dreading the day we get casting news for this...

its gonna be a real problem when this joker is better than the one we currently have and people clamor for him in the DCEU.

but that is for another day!

Assuming the DCEU still exists by then.

Honestly not interested in a Joker Movie. He's best as a foil to Batman and also not interested in non DCEU DC character films. Well, maybe characters who really are barely connected anyway.

So one would think that this movie is absolutely shelved right now, yes?

Would be weird if that happened considering we found out the project 3 months ago.

Who knows, though?

This project should not even be happening in the first place.

Well, it's not attached to the DCEU... so it could be a matter of dropping Leto completely and going full steam ahead with this.

Tbh it's more likely to happen now. Wonder Woman 2-5, Reeves' Batman trilogy, Robbie's HQ movies, The Joker... These movies will make money. Of course they really need some A-list actor but with 80-100M production budget they need jsut 230-250M WW to break even.

They could arguably make a Joker standalone for the budget of Deadpool or maybe Logan and see some profits.

don’t worry. It’ll never actually happen.

it $0 i$ buddy

and leonardo davincio will b jokurr becuz liek... Obviously

and it willl b bout how he naht actualleh a bad guy but rly a s a d b o i who got in a accident an h luvs harly an hes juss like the best ok

Edit : can we please talk about how none of my posts are EVER in all caps even if I type them out like that ?

Take it with a grain of salt, but...

http://variety.com/2018/film/news/joaquin-phoenix-the-joker-origin-movie-todd-phillips-1202692188/

Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to play the Clown Prince of Crime in Warner Bros. and Todd Phillips’ untitled Joker origin movie.

While studio negotiations are not yet underway, Phillips has made it clear that Phoenix is the top choice to star and sources now tell Variety that, after thinking it over, Phoenix has agreed to the role. WB had no comment.

Oh, not doubting the validity of it, but particularly for comic related stories, I've started to dislike the overuse of 'sources say.'

If Joaquin ****ing Phoenix played The Joker, I genuinely don't think my heart could handle it.
