Michael Caine can do whatever he wants. He has a free pass in my book, even if only for saying that 'I have not seen Jaws: the Revenge, but I heard it was dreadful. However, I have seen the house that it built, and that is beautiful.'Yeah, but the tricky thing is -- it's Michael Caine's quote. First, Caine says the first time he saw Ledger's Joker was when he comes into the room with a bunch of dwarves. Now he's saying the first time he saw him was on a TV screen with Batman. In both quotes, he says he was so rattled he forgot his lines. So Caine seems to be a little unreliable here; he can't quite get his story straight.
It would make some sense with some of the photos we've seen, but... who knows?
Also, I can't imagine Nolan wanting to give any sort of plot points or character arcs away. Everybody else seems to reiterate that they'd get killed if they said anything; why does Caine get to speak so freely?
A man who can say that, can say anything. He's probably pulling our chain, misdirecting us. Either that, or his drinking is getting out of control.
