If it doesn't happen by 2013 (which is how it looks like) that means Chloe Moretz will have aged out of playing Hit Girl. Dong a sequel down the road where they're both adults is interesting, but only if we see a conclusion to the Red Mist and unmasking storyline that Millar set up.

In short: No Moretz, no sequels.

Moretz is no spring chicken and recasting would only make the sequel inferior by default....Moretz is the only girl I can really see play Hit Girl

Doing a KA film like in seven or eight years where they're both adults is interesting. But I think that for that to be profitable, this needs to be seen as a popular franchise. The best way to do that is for another film that tackles the subject in a similar way that caused us to love the original. i.e. Pop culture overload and a foul mouthed, mass murdering, adorable little girl. If they wait around until Chloe Moretz is 16 or 17 the ironic brilliance of her character will be gone. That's why if it doesn't happen by 2013, I think it's safe to say that it's not happening.

With that said I did read issue 2 of Kick-Ass 2 yesterday. In all honesty, while it was quite good, it was not worth waiting for five months. I wonder how the fans stayed excited for the first volume for 8 issues taking over 2 years to release.

I did like the nice surprise about Marty in the issue and the introduction of the "Col. Stars" character (I hope him turning out to be mob enforcement is not the case, otherwise it would be Red Mist again). However, there seems to be not much focus on Dave and almost none on Mindy. I wonder where exactly Millar is going. Though Red Mist's Twiiter villain page was very clever and funny.

If they wait until she's older, they'll have to change the whole tone of... everything. Hit-Girl was awesome because she was a bad-ass little girl, but if she's 'Hit-Woman' it'll have to end up being more like Kill Bill than anything else.

It's nothing but speculation at this point. Jane goldman saying the sequel won't be made any time soon holds as much value as Millar saying the sequel has been green lit a few months back. The sequel stands in the hands of matthew vaughn and he's probably way too busy to think about the next project he'll direct.

However First Class will be out in a few months and we'll probably get a definitive status report on the sequel then.

The movie deserves a sequel and with chloe moretz growing up fast I hope he'll make this his next project.


He enjoyed making it, the actors involved also enjoyed it ... it's a movie that's entirely his (and millar's) baby and after having Fox on his back with first class I'd thing he'd look forward to the creative freedom he'd have with KA2.

Interview with Mark Millar, here's the bit about a possible KA2:

He tells me that they he, Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman had been planning on doing 3 Kick-Ass movies pretty much in a row, but that since the film came out, all their careers have erupted ("we're actually making real money now"), and it's now quite tough to get them all into a room together. However, he says that if they don't make it within the next year, it won't happen - they don't want to wait until everyone's too old. Lionsgate are apparently very keen, but Matthew Vaughn may "do a George Lucas" and produce the sequel while someone else directs.

But Mr Millar is very comfortable with it never happening, unless everything's just right. He says there was a Wanted 2 on the cards at one point, and he's glad it never got off the drawing board "I don't want my IMDB page to have something **** on it...just because I wanted to make some quick money, you know?"

Actually a george lucas would be adding in things that weren't there :P

I read the second comic too...good, but....not worth the wait. I know its supposed to be like this, but I despise how they leave these things on such cliffhangers.

It'd be a real shame if we never got a sequel, but as it is this movie works really well as a stand-alone feature anyway, so it wouldnt be too dis-heartening if we never did get a sequel, as I hear the comic hasnt been very good anyway.

I'd love a sequel, but if it doesn't happen, then I won't lose sleep over it. I LOVE Kick-Ass, but I think the movie had more than enough closure to make it a standalone film.

I do hope they make the sequel next year, because then Matthew Vaughn and the team could participate on making "Team superhero" movie which is going to be trending up (or will it?) with Avengers movie in 2012, standalone JLA movie in 2013 so hey how about a good parody of Superheroes vs. Super villains with costumed nerds fightning in New York achieving their wet dreams of being Batman or Joker?! =D

Also Hit Girl is getting her own comic!

Ugh. I I'll read it, but I doubt Millar will have finished KA2 by then and if HG is not going to be a major player, who wants to read KA2?

I actually think that while the first film works as a stand alone movie there is such an intriguing idea for a trilogy here.

Movie 1: Introduction to "real world superheroes" with biting satire. Two parallel geeks become future leaders of heroes and villains. And Hit-Girl is the awesome, Han Solo/Jack Sparrow wild card.

Movie 2: Escalation of heroes vs. villains when they're older. Things get darker with Dave's identity becoming public and people attacking his friends, families, etc. The two geeks realize their roles as hero/villain and lead a gang fight. Hit-Girl comes out of retirement and is awesome.

Movie 3: Dave and Mindy grow up and meet each other for the first time in years and team up for some meta reason (Dave could be making a Kick-Ass movie or something). Kind of the Big Chill film of "real sueprheroes" living with the consequences a decade later and becoming all nostalgic before teaming up.

Not sure what to make of Hit-Girl's standalone series. I'd be more willing to read an ongoing Kick-Ass comic.

Last weekend I was in Hamilton for a wedding. Not only did I learn that where we were for said wedding had been used as a location in X-Men when Magneto emerges from the train station, but driving back to the hotel that night my brother caught first glimpse in the dark of the alley/pizza joint where Kick-Ass is knifed. The next day we swung by and grabbed some photos, I'll be sure to post 'em soon. Quite an interesting weekend for unexpected location finds.

I love the film...but to me it does work well as a stand alone film. As much as I would love a sequel, I won't be too disappointed if we don't get one.

I think this is one of the few comic book movies that does work as a stand-alone feature, I wouldnt say no to a sequel, but I'm not really that gutted if we dont get one either.
