The Last of Us The Last Of Us 2

You are right. I thought they went together, so I wrote comments. But if you can do them separately, then yeah. Would want to hide spoilers.

I haven't watched the new trailers yet. For a game I couldn't wait to play, this thing has me down. I keep checking Restera for good news.
Do you post there as well?

This is where it gets more complicated:
Abby (minus name) was introduced in the second trailer, that was released for the game. There was no sight of Ellie or Joel. Even Joel wasn't revealed properly at that point. People speculated Abby is playable based on how camera sets behind the character in the end of that trailer. While ND didn't open their cards entirely, it's not like the character wasn't introduced and appeared out of nowhere. So I can't really agree it's false advertising. More of that, if Abby wasn't seen doing something horrible, you know what I'm talking about, I'm not even sure people would even care that she's playable for half a game (assuming it's the case).
It's false advertising because Naughty Dog lied about Ellie being the only playable character.

Do you have a source for this? Quote or something like that?

Also, they lied Joel won't be playable. Yet you control him in the beginning of the game.

No it's not the first time, but that doesn't make it okay.
Everyone decides for themselves. Some people want to be surprised. Other want to know everything. I don't know. It was never an issue for me. Good game is a good game.

So it's okay to be lied to for a surprise later?

I don't know if it's OK, but I don't see it as something malicious.
Surprises can enhance experience, imo. But ultimately it comes down to if it serves the story, if it's done well. If there's substance to the idea. I'm open towards new characters, new sensations. It's still The Last of Us, it continues the story of the first game. It's not up to me what kind of story they should tell and how. If it works, it works. If they hide something on purpose, it's better be worth it.
I spoiled myself, but I wish I didn't. I envy the people who will go into this blind.

:funny:

It's not "okay" but creatives do this to preserve surprises for the audience. J.J. Abrams lied about Cumberbatch playing Khan, for example.
I'm guessing that's a Star Wars reference coz I don't really know what that's about at all. Anyway yeah
maybe Druckmann lied to surprise gamers, or maybe he lied because he believed that a lot of the fan base would get turned off at the idea of playing as someone new for half the game. I don't follow every creative decision and every contradiction that was ever made behind it, in a case like this though I suppose it's inoffensive but depending on what it is it can also come off as deceptive.

In this context, hiding something and lying about something aren't the same thing. They could have said something like, in this game you play as Ellie, or you start as Ellie, and that's it. Then the twist is a surprise with no deception. If they say you play only as Ellie (which they did), then the twist is only seen not coming because the player was deceived.

Both Abrams and Cumberbatch denied the latter was playing Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness. Similar situation with Cotillard denying she was Talia in TDKR.

Your example of non-lie still reveals more than what they wanted to reveal. I don't know why they insist on hiding her so much beyond a vague trailer, but it's what it is. We will know for sure when the game arrives. Besides, post-release interviews will be really interesting considering the controversy. Druckmann said he can't wait to discuss all the things.

Yeah, I remember. So I guess sometimes we have to just conform to it. It's a case b case basis.

They just wanted to do something that no one else had really done before and in theory it is a cool concept. But I really think what's going to end up happening is that it is going to divide the fan base and perhaps the gaming industry and community that no game of this caliber has done before.

And it's one of the most exciting things about the game for me. It's high-budget, with insane production quality and at the same time it looks like it has enough guts to shake up the industry. Debates are guaranteed and it's impossible to predict the outcome, but I'm optimistic. Someone has to push the industry beyond technical advancements. Deeply humane and at the same time unflinching nature of TLOU is a good platform for that.

Saw this on another forum and thought it was kinda funny

The actual concept seems cool to me but reading what they have actually planned for us doesn't excite me at all. More power to you though. In the end, ND will have the last laugh anyway because is going to become a bestseller.

I have to ask, why are you in here? You're obviously very sensitive about spoilers. Anything that could even be remotely indicative of story elements upsets you. Thats your choice and you do you. But you know for a fact that the entire plot of the game and 2 hours of cutscenes leaked. So why in pluperfect hell would you go into any Last of Us 2 thread on any forum? So many fans have read the spoilers that at this point spoiler free speculation is going to be scarce. There's very little to speculate about since we know the plot, and because we know so much of the plot we cant do much of any educated speculation without using those spoilers in our speculation which means you can't really participate in those speculations and discussions. So what exactly are you hoping to gain by entering any Last of Us 2 discussion thread? If you're just interested in official news about the release, release plans and such, the official Naughty Dog twitter is going to be the place to go. If you're just interested in non spoiler unofficial news then reliable game journalism sources are another option. If you want to know about or discuss the who, what, and why of the leak then sure you can do that in an LOU 2 thread, but it's an unnecessary and foolish risk if you're as sensitive about spoilers as you seem to be.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not trying to run you off or say you cant be in here. You're more than welcome to post wherever you want on these forums and I'm not going to say otherwise. I just dont understand why you're taking this risk at this point.
