Yeah, the recast manifesting was (thankfully) never an option. Plus, Bella's currently around the same age Ellie was in Part II, and it's too early to know when they'll start production so she'll likely be even older by then.
On another note, I wouldn't be opposed to be season 2 opening up withyounger Abby in the hospital finding her father dead, and then keeping her absent for a few episodes until she's reintroduced shredded as hell. Because on one hand, it leaves blind viewers with the anxious anticipation of what she will do once she reappears again, and it's a good way to reinforce the fact that Joel's actions will have major consequences and an easy way to get the audience to understand why she feels such hatred toward him. Then either mid-season or as the season 2 finale, they finally have her encounter Joel and, well, the rest is history.

The infected would probably let her live and watch/listen in respectful silence if she did that.
The undead would start being a lot friendlier to humans after a performance like that.
