Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

Hmm I'm currently watching a cutscene 8hour movie edit of the second game to remind myself again of the game and I have no clue where they would want to end the season.

The changes in the show convinced me a lot of things would be changed. The thing with Tommy in the 2nd episode, is still taking me out. That was a drastic change to me.

If I have to guess, the season ends where Abby and Ellie see each other again? In the game, before the moment happened, there's at least three flashback moments with Joel and I'm not sure if they are going to adapt all those in the 4 remaining episodes of season 2.

I can't wait to see how the cinema, the amusement park and the stadium looks like.
those areas look really cosy in the game.

I think we get Ellie’s three days in Seattle, with each day peppering in some Isaac/WLF/Seraphite backstory, Eugene’s expansion, and the Joel/Ellie flashbacks. Apparently Dever is only in 3 episodes this season, which likely makes the theater encounter with “and you wasted it” the season capper.

Abby’s Seattle arc is then saved for early Season 3. If we get a ten episode order, maybe Seraphite Island could be the mid season arc; the production location of which could double for Santa Barbara. Then we get Ellie back for the back half of the season.

Or maybe they go for a shorter episode count again and we get Prophet flashbacks, Yara/Lev expansions, Jackson, etc. at the expense of any Ellie next season (unlikely). It’s difficult to call. Makes me wonder if their plan is to drop a release date for Part III at the end of season 3. Keeps the show alive and pump out one more game at the end of the PS5 era to provide future cash flow with PS6 remasters like they did Part II.

Going by how many episodes we've got left, I'm nervous we won't get Hillcrest, which is the best part of that first half of the game.

That happened before Ellie confronts Nora in the game, and we're getting that this season since it was shown in the trailers so it's very possible we're getting Hillcrest. Otherwise there's a lot of flashback/WLF and Scars padding they'd have to do for the back half of the season. If I had to guess, this season is going to end at the end of Ellie's Seattle Day 2 only because I could see them holding off on Ellie killing ALL of Abby's friends until next season.

Given where they shot, I'd be floored if they didn't go all the way through the aquarium this season.

Hillcrest though, I'm not expecting it like the game. Think it'll be swapped with the industrial areas we see in the trailer.

I can see that happening too. The most logical cliffhanger point for this season would be Abby showing up at the theater and if Dever is only showing up one more time this season it seems like they're keeping the narrative the same as the game where we see Ellie's POV first followed by Abby's in the following season. Of course we'll have the bigger picture spelled out for us in the coming weeks but up until I saw that Kaitlyn Dever wasn't in the main cast this season I'd have thought they'd switch it up from the game and run the Ellie and Abby Seattle storylines concurrent to each other both to keep the deaths a surprise and also to keep Ellie (and Dina, Jesse, and Tommy) in the show during Abby's portion. But if they're going about it the same way as the game I'm fine with that too. Dever is more than capable of leading the show for however many episodes it takes to cover her three days in Seattle.

Presumably that's gonna be the whole next season, given their talk of splitting the game in three. Gotta say, very excited to see how "and here comes a season with neither of the two leads you've been following so far" hits with the general audiences. Easier done in a game where it's all at your fingertips for a complete experience, but even that obviously had some... mixed reactions. But 2 years to a season where your remaining lead only shows up at the end to get the **** kicked out of her at the very end and then 2 more before she's around again, in the interim having to sell "follow the woman who killed that guy you liked"? I think it's a harder sell. So I'm curious if they're gonna find some way to squeeze some kind of flashbacks out of Ellie or something so she's kind of around without derailing things.

Yeah, for me Ellie being absent for pretty much an entire third of the game didn't throw me off too much because I binge-played Part II in one weekend. I could see it being more of an issue for TV audiences not getting the outcome of the cliffhanger right away but at the same time, giving us Abby's motivation up front combined with a storyline that's just as interesting with plenty of big setpieces (the Rat King, Seraphite Island) should keep viewers locked in.

That idea of "You'll see these characters again in four years" is the really daunting aspect of this potential three season split. Obviously there's enough Abby material to fill out a similarly-sized seven episode season, but the logistical challenges of holding your cast for that long is a tough pill to swallow without knowing whether or not they're committing to doing this game in two or three seasons.

Season 3 is supposedly scheduled to start shooting this summer. There may not even be a full 2 year wait between seasons 2 and 3. If there was a third game on the horizon they might stretch the wait time out a little more to allow time to catch up but since there isn't as of now, they seem to be willing to go full steam ahead. By all accounts there may not have even been that long a wait between the first and second seasons if it wasn't for the strikes in 2023. So I don't think we're looking at a Stranger Things kind of wait between seasons.

That's great news I missed with the renewal announcement. Hopefully that means we get it next year considering they began rolling on Season 2 about 15 months ago and are already set up for a largely "Seattle" based shoot.

Looking at the trailer for the rest of the season, it looks like we might actually see Dina giving birth. I don't recall seeing that part in the game?

Which trailer was this? It's unlikely we see that in the show at all since it's part of a time jump, let alone this season.

I don't remember Dina giving birth as a time jump in the game? Just a time jump from the Abby fight in the theatre to Dina, Ellie and the baby living on the farm ?

But it seems to be a trailer cut together on YouTube of all previous trailers with stuff not seen in the season yet. One shot is Dina on her back screaming upwards into the screen. What else could it be but that?

I meant Dina giving birth happens during the in between period of the time jump. Do you have a link to the trailer? I think I've seen what you're talking about but it's probably a reaction to something in Seattle.

I assume she's just hurt. She's wearing her Seattle outfit and seems to be laying in the theater. I don't see them spending nine months in Seattle.

I don't have a link sorry @Drizzle. The way the shot looks though it's like she is screaming from giving birth Maybe she is more far along in the show or gives birth prematurely?. Just seemed a strange shot to include especially when she is in the theatre.

Just stay in that music store where no one can hurt you, Shimmer. You hear me? Stay! :csad:

Another good episode.
Ellie and Dina hooking up for the first time in Seattle after they both share vital information about each other seemed abrupt but I liked how different it was from the game where Ellie was way more distressed about Dina breaking the news that she's pregnant.

Over on the WLF side of things, Jeffrey Wright is so sinister as Isaac. And I wasn't expecting that Josh Peck cameo in the beginning. LOL
