Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

Wow, just wow. An absolutely phenomenal first episode. Even after just the first few minutes, I knew this was gonna be best live action adaption of a video game ever and oh boy was I right. They actually did it!

Agreed. Having played the original game countless times, and it being one of my all time favorite games, this didn’t disappoint. It’s easily already the best video game adaption for tv or film. They’ve kept it extremely true to the original material. But still doing it’s own thing, subtle little changes and what not. Handled very well honestly.

I really cannot wait to watch the rest of this show now. I feel like it will be something very special when it’s said and done, just like the first game was. Bravo to all involved, off to a great start. I’m ready for more.

Oh and
Sarah’s death scene still got me incredibly emotional. Dare I say it hit even harder. I was a mess.

Slooooow but ok. Never played the games so newbie on this front. At the sight of the first zombie eating human flesh I thought "not another one....". Soooo tired of the zombie genre.

Most of the way through the first episode and have seen enough to keep with it for a while. I admit I am also sick of the zombie genre, was hoping this was more of an alien invasion thing -- I've never even heard of the game, nevermind played it. The cast is excellent, Pedro is one of my top faves.

The first half was really exciting, than it slowed down a lot

Pilot was amazing. I even bought Bella as Ellie. Her looks still bothers me, but I accept it it's still Ellie. She was Ellie. I really liked story was set before internet was major thing so expansion on Sarah made sense. I liked some changes made to story. Now that I saw first episode I could see why they made changes. Because otherwise it would be boring if they followed scene by scene directly given they gave us in major important scenes same dialogue as from games.

I want to hear opinions of first episode from perspective of blind viewer who knew nothing about game. As fan I liked it.

I never played and it seemed well done to me. :) Mostly it's a great cast.

I would say it's the best version of the "people are the real monsters" trope. It's what people loved about the Walking Dead comics before they ruined it and drove it into the ground in the show.
This is what gives me pause. I liked the first few seasons of Walking Dead but I probably stayed on longer than I should and now I feel like the zombie genre just isn’t for me anymore.

It's been a good game translation so far and started very well. The interaction between characters has always been what I liked about the game rather than the zombie apocalypse stuff.

Really enjoyed the pilot. I didn't play the game myself, but I watched my husband play it and I recognized a few things. Especially with him losing his daughter, that's a part of the game that really stuck out to me.

I think The Walking Dead sort of ruined zombie flicks for me. I loved that show so much then it just TANKED in quality. Even after I quit watching but still read along with the spoilers, it didn't seem to get it back. I'm hoping this gets the bad taste out of my mouth.

Well hopefully HBO doesn't try to run the series into the ground with a bunch of unnecessary spin offs.

While the first half hour was solid, the second half felt very similar to later era Walking Dead.

Also,

That clicker on the roof in the last shot!
:mrk:

SUCH a great touch. Another random change I love is the use of tendrils in the mouth rather than spores. Means you have to cover the actors' faces less and get a more unsettling visual as a bonus.

That’s the line this show has to walk with the need to continuously differentiate itself above standard zombie apocalypse fare when things slow down. TWD covered that so well and then outstayed its welcome. Focusing on the great characters and their interactions is the way to do it IMO.
