This movie looks worse than the original SF, if that is even possible. At least Chun LI was Asian in the first movie.

All oiled up and ready for action

thanks

Kreuk is asian enough, perhaps too asian. If she ever needs some more caucasian in her then id be happy to oblige.

Bishop2, the thing is that El Mayimbe is a liar. So I don't really trust him. Unless you've read the same script that Mayimbe reviewed.

He actually didn't review it. A reader sent in the review, apparently - I just looked it up and re-read it now out of mild curiosity. But why do you say he's a liar?

In truth I can see why someone would like the script. The story seems faithful to the games and the action in the clips on RottenTomatoes is pretty bad-ass, and isn't that mostly what you require from a film like this?

But the problem is that there's some poor casting (Bison, Gen) and incredibly poor costuming (they couldn't even TRY to put them in outfits that are a LITTLE similar to the games?), and that blame lies on the director.

El Mayimbe is also the dude who reported that Christian Bale was going to be Batman, and Brandon Routh is going to be Superman. I think he also was the guy said Brett Ratner was going to be Conan, and the list goes on.

Like others, he's never always accurate with his reports, but he's reliable enough.

The dude has no credibility as a script reader to me. I came to this conclusion after I read the Voltron and MOTU scripts myself.

Well, I definitely don't get the same things from the clips. And I mean I like Chun-Li from the games, but those are video games which generally always fail or suck as movies. And the characters whose story I would want to see are like Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Gouten, etc.

Well were they even written with outfits for the script?

The director is also the director of DOOM. More of that flop smell from a mile away ;) .

I wonder which movie will suck more? Doom or StreetFighter: Who gives a crap about it's lame subtitle?

Fair enough, but that doesn't mean he lies; just means his taste differs from yours or mine or whoever's. It's all opinions anywya. I mean, he hated the "Speed Racer" script and I thought that movie was incredibly entertaining, so yeah.

Chun-Li is actually my favorite SF character, but I agree she's not the most obvious choice for a movie basis. It would've been cooler and more logical to do Ryu and Ken. Have Ryu tempted by the dark Hado and forced to confront its master, Akuma, when he kills his brother, etc. Seems pretty straightforward and logical.

Although, really, ANY Street Fighter movie isn't very logical at this point. Unlike in the early '90s, this franchise does NOT have the mainstream recognition or Average-Joe appeal to draw in any kind of crowd. This was a bomb-in-the-making from day one.

As for the storyline... well, Chun-Li's father is taken from her and she's hunting down Bison and Shadaloo to try and find him, as in the Alpha games. Also just like the Alpha games, Charlie/Nash is helping her via Interpol and Gen provides her with some early training. Also, just like the whole series, Balrog and Vega rank as some of the major players in the Shadaloo ranks. So really, I don't know how much more you want than that - except, of course, actors or costumes that look remotely like the source material, which this movie seems to powerfully lack.

I will add this: That "His Name is Bison" clip? Is horrifically bad. I get the feeling the dialogue for this thing is going to be laughably atrocious, but it's probably still going to be a better adaption than the "Shadaloo is a country and the Street Fighter cast are UN soldiers" crap from the '94 film.

That's not saying very much though.

I dunno. I have mixed emotions, you can probably tell. I expect some parts to suck mightily. I expect other parts to deserve a little respect. Mostly, I expect to be disappointed once again, just as I was in '94. But I'll give it a chance.

Well were they even written with outfits for the script?

Dunno...

The director is also the director of DOOM.

Yeah, not promising. Although I don't think the DIRECTION was the problem with that movie, at least - just the script, which somehow failed to contain even the simple base concept of everything Doom, i.e. DEMONS and HELL.

The script actually isn't bad at all. The problem just lies in the execution. Bad actors who deliver aweful dialogue. Total miscast of characters. I'm looking at you Vega. The lack of good martial artists, and thus too much reliance on wire work.

Has anyone been to Gamefaqs lately? The front page is covered with ads for this movie. Covered. I think it may have more promotion there than FOX has provided in other areas combined.

Never heard of that website, but it makes sense...that is the exact market they want, and all the ads in the world played during Lost isnt going to get housewives in to see this film.

If the chance for a new Street Fighter Movie should ever arise, it so needs to be a Hong Kong production. And either Sammo Hung, Donnie Yen or Jackie Chan have to be involved in it.

This is what good martial arts looks like.

Wushu: The young Generation

Ip Man

Exactly. They should get the director of the Cutie Honey live action movie to make it.

Doom's under-rated. I thought it was decent. They really should have made it more faithful, though. Chickening out with the hell dimension stuff was silly. Sarge's turn wasn't explained enough, either.

There may have been demand had it had good marketing and was actually a quality movie.

Time labeled it one of the best movies of 2008; they weren't wrong, IMO.

But nobody was interested in something so out there.

I never said it would get a sequel. I said there may be another movie.

Yeah, thats probably not going to happen either. I wouldn't be surprised this would be the last Hollywood attempt at a Street Fighter film.

I personally think Street Fighter films will probably go the way of Mortal Kombat films after this movie is made. I mean, there's only so many times they can keep trying and failing.

Well, considering Paul Blart Mall Cop was able to rake in the cash it did, maybe this movie will surprise people. Movie goers seem to be eating up bad looking movies this year.

As for demand, didn't Street Fighter 4 just come out? It's probably the perfect time for a new Street Fighter movie. Not that I'm gonna go see it, looks pretty bad, but the general audience may just turn out for it.
