He looks kind of like Lou Diamond Phillips in Young Guns during the Spirit Road scene.
He could be. He certainly looks mixed with something. All he claimed was that his great-grandmother might be Cherokee or Creek Indian. Who knows? But it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility.
That just had to be awkward for everybody.
That just had to be awkward for everybody.
Yeah but after a while, things got a little more relaxed...That just had to be awkward for everybody.
I agree. You cannot account for Depp's particular facial structure and coloration by looking solely at European antecedents, which is also common with random people you run into in, say, Oklahoma who happen to have 1/8-1/16 Native American blood. It's absolutely true that it's a shame you almost never see Native American actors onscreen, but as a general principle, not because Depp didn't step out of his pet project to make room for somebody else.
People in Oklahoma "happen" to have 1/8-1/16 blood quantum (usually a LOT higher ratio than that) because OK is Indian Territory. That's where the gubmint shipped *every* renegade Indian back in the 1800s --- just a wide spot on the Plains that wasn't worth a damn to any self-respecting Manifest Destiny pioneer pushing west.
Cherokee Sam, are you full blooded by chance?
Yeah. That's why I used it as an example. Depp being part Indian is perfectly plausible.
wow those are some huge sets...
Producers have erected an authentic-looking old west town in the middle of the New Mexico desert ... complete with a saloon, a jail and a real functioning railway.
So .... if they were going for authenticity not so much. if they were going for how can we excessively accentuate Depp - Mission accomplished.

.... dark b for the win.Looking at the painting, Depp's look might be historically accurate after all.
" looked at the face of this warrior and thought: That’s it," Depp told the outlet. "The stripes down the face and across the eyes … There’s this very wise quarter, a very tortured and hurt section, an angry and rageful section, and a very understanding and unique side. I saw these parts, almost like dissecting a brain, these slivers of the individual."
Better get some John Redcorn looking mother****ers as consultants, huh?
What's hilarious is that Sattler admits that the bird *isn't* on the head of the Indian in his portrait --- it's flying *behind* him, along with several other crows, and very much alive. And Depp thought it was a dead bird on his head.![]()
If people don't care for this project, why keep up with it?
