I don't know if it's wanting something to fail more like many of us are just very un-impressed with what disney is presenting for such a big budget outing.

I think some of it is depp backlash as well. I don't think i've ever seen an actor go so quickly from abandoning his indie and art house film roots to doing pirates 4 and 5 and the 10th movie with tim burton and helena bonham carter and now playing what was originally a native american caricature in an obvious POTC derivative.

Depp backlash is stupid. The guy is having fun. There are many actors that have fallen further than he has. At least he's still entertaining.

I still respect him as an actor and there's nothing wrong per se with doing mainstream films or whatever but you need the work to back up the actor.

When depp was everywhere and the films were good people didn't mind but the last few have been really so so and that's where risk of over exposure comes about.

Myself i'd love to see depp team up with Tarantino, I know quintuin has recently said something similar.

The voice over set the mood very well. Also felt like a trailer about The Lone Ranger. I have a feeling this will be similar to the first Pirates. As long as the story stays with Elizabeth/The Lone Ranger as its driving force, it will work. If it pulls a Pirates sequels and makes the side character the driving force, it will most likely fail.
