Yeah, Depp is in a position to overshadow him like he did Mia in Wonderland.

The budget for this film was just too high. No way they get even close to making it back. Not to mention that hardly anyone under 30 even knows who The Lone Ranger is. The original $70 million proposed budget should have been more than enough to get the movie done and then see if it could become a mid-level franchise.

Stuff like that doesn't really matter.

If the movie works, people will know. Iron Man was a C-list superhero to most, nobody but comic book fanatics knew who he was but one little movie changed all that around.

Depends how people respond to them this summer and if either stand out in their big breakout movies. I assume Cavill has the bigger chance at making a name for himself.

Didn't work for Taylor Kitsch though and he had 2 shots in one summer.

Three, if you count that Savages movie he did. But Kitsch has all the charisma of a box of paperclips and at least two of those movies were awful.

True, but having Downey as Tony Stark helped a bit, I imagine. At least he had name recognition, mostly from his dark days, but it was still there. Armie Hammer doesn't ring a single bell for 95% of moviegoers. Depp is there for that, but a lot of people seem to have had their fill of him for now. I just don't see how this will work itself into a blockbuster.

I don't know anyone personally who knows who Armie Hammer is. Anyone who thinks Armie should or could have gotten top billing is fooling themselves. After this movie if it does well, then yeah, he could get top billing on a future project, but not here. Being one of the Winklevos (sp?) twins in a David Fincher film staring Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg doesn't award you living room name status.

Woman -Johnny Depp and his partner
They might as well name the movie that
Didn't see that coming. - http://forums.superherohype.com/showpost.php?p=22323711&postcount=412

As far as the Zorro vibes, it's the same writers, besides all the thematic and visual similarities, most striking was the almost exact shots of Tornado diving into the train, here however characterwise Hammer is in the young novice Alejandro(Banderas) apprentice role, and the older Tonto(Depp) is taking the old wise teacher Diego(Hopkins) role (although more mystic and done camp).
- When the pupil is ready the "master"(tongue-in-cheek) will appear.
- How can I do what is needed, when all I feel is... hate? ... You hide it behind this [shows mask]...etc.

The flip here though is the old "wise-man" is the over the top out of sorts , bumbling but lands on his feet funny one, and the naive apprentice is the straight.

My guess; the same way Don Rafael and cronies killed Alejandro's brother, and also in the past had killed Diego's wife and destroyed his family.

Cavendish and his cronies now not only killed Reid's brother, but also in the past had kill Tonto's squaw and destroyed his family.

Similarly I'd guess while Tonto shows him the meticulous path to revenge, he also has his own score to settle with the villain.

dam this movie gonna bomb hard did they really need 250mill for a western the zorro movies didn't cost that much.if they wanted a franchise they should have kept it around 100mill top!

See, I don't like that. I think he shouldn't overshadow the actual stars of the films.

In fact, Depp just dropped out of that mob movie because they needed to cut the budget, including his 20 million dollar salary, and Depp walked off.

I like Depp, I really do, but WTF is happening to him? Devin Faraci is right: Depp has almost giving up acting and traded it in for white makeup and funny hats.

His saving grace is Transdedence at this point.

To most people Armie Hammer is that guy who makes baking soda.

Nobody knows, and really still don't, know who Chris Pine is, but he did incredibly well for himself in Star Trek.

It doesn't really matter at this point if the average slob knows who they are or not, so long as they keep getting high profile gigs.

The biggest test for him next is his 'Jack Ryan reboot' film. And I pray they change the title.

This is what always pops into my head, and I still can't believe A) that's the name he chose to use, or B) his parents actually named him that. Sounds so unbelievably fake... (though I still want to see the guy play Batman some day, perhaps after a bit more life-experience. Like, the reboot after the reboot)

His name is actually Armand, like his grandfather, who actually had ties to and owned the majority of Arm & Hammer's stock back in his day. That's actually on his birth certificate. It's funny. "Armie" Hammer already reminds people of baking soda, but if he went by Armand Hammer, his name would literally be one and the same with the damn baking soda.

:o

I actually think that Hammer will be the obvious lead in the movie, and Disney just using Depp more in the trailers/spots (aka marketing) to draw more people to the theaters.

I do believe that the Ranger will be awesome character.

I mean I'm going to go see it just because it's Verbinski and I'm curious to see what they bring to the adaptation.

Wow, I actually figured it was Armand (a name I already associate with Armond White and, therefore, loathe), I'm just shocked he had the stones to use it and not go with a far less jokey-sounding (I'm assuming?) middle name. But eh, good for him :woot: Still looks like he needs to play a superhero though.

He owns the baking soda company....
