I agree. This is the biggest Meh ever. Disney has killed any remaining interest I had in Star Wars.

Ah, true true true.Bread and circuses to distract the masses.
HOTD looks massively better than GOT. The costume design in particular is a massive step up from the inane leather garbage towards the end of GOT and the actual shot construction and visual storytelling of the HOTD battle you posted is substantially better.
That is literally one show. What else do you have? Because you said 99%.On top of my mind, Daredevil: Born Again, you compare the cinematography of the first season, released in 2015, with the one from the revival 10 years later, and it's striking. Without even mentioning the colors ( which were better), OG show just looked ... visually raw i n comparison.
The mood is tied to the narrative, and I have nothing to say about aesthetics; it's gorgeous; I'm talking about cinematography. The palette is subdued, desaturated, and dominated by muted blues, grays, and foggy tones. It's just visually boring. And it has nothing to do with the resolution, my very mid internet doesn't allow me to go beyond 1080p anyway.
As for proof, the battle of Stirling in Braveheart, still looks great even with a crappy resolution. Vivid green field, gushing bright red, striking blue paint. Bright colors, not diluted by any moody filter.
Still looks gorgeous even in 720p.
The Witcher S01 stands out visually, almost looking like the game, but it dipped in the subsequent seasons and the Blood Origin spin-off, all those muted tones drained the vibrant fantasy vibes from it. Live-action One Piece is a fun adaptation, I liked it, yet its washed-out color palette pales in comparison to the extremely colorful anime, the world feels less alive. The Boys and its spin-off Gen V are so heavily desaturated I could swear the cinematographer hates colors. That is literally one show. What else do you have? Because you said 99%.
No, I prefer when medieval shows have colors, to reflect the period's rich visual culture (vivid tapestries, stained glass, beautifully orned armors...etc). I'm currently rewatching HBO's Rome on DVD, and while I have no doubt it would be breathtaking in 4K, it's still looks insanely good. This applies to heroic fantasy and sci-fi too, those worlds demand bold, bright colors to feel alive and immersive. You seem to prefer images with big primary colors. Which I do not hate Imagine Seven looking like Braveheart. Bad idea, right?
Shot composition’s a bit too specific for me to dive into. Framing and angles are a big part of cinematography, but I was focused on broader stuff like color and lighting since that’s what grabs my eye mostI'm curious why you never bring up shot composition, which is a key part of cinematography? Because it's so much better on HotD.
IMO it's hard to capture that 80s LF feel when it all looks plastic. I never liked Mando's armor downgrade. But it's even worse on the big screen, with mediocre CGI around it.Nothing particularly bothers me about this trailer... but nothing really thrills me either. I agree with those who think it's reminiscent of 1980s Lucasfilm, but is that enough, even for old nostalgics?
I've only seen the first two seasons of the series –which I really, really enjoyed–and for me, they stand alone with a logical and moving ending when Luke gets Grogu back.
When I saw the little creature reunite with Din in the total disaster that wasThe Book of Boba series, it just didn't seem right to me. Knowing it wasn't for me anymore, I dropped the whole thing.
I guess I'll still see the movie to eventually rediscover the spirit of the series –which I haven't seen since it originally aired– but I'm not sure if it will in theaters...
I know two of the three PT are butt ugly. But the vast majority of Star Wars movies are lookers. This includes all the Disney ones. You can argue TLJ is the "worst" looking of them, and they still shot the hell out of it.My whole thing too is, personally mediocre to bad cinematography has never really made or broken a movie for me as long as I'm invested in one or more other elements, whether it's the story or the characters or the acting (The Avengers, for example). But in the case of Mando & Grogu, this will be the first new theatrical Star Wars movie in six and a half years. It should at least look like more than just an episode of the show, but "this time it's in IMAX!"
I mean, that's a given. And considering the length of Mando episodes, it will be a whole season, slightly condensed.A lot of focus on the cinematography, but honestly, I can’t shake this feeling that this is going to feel less like The Mandalorian: The Movie (a better title) and more like 2-3 episodes of the show stitched into one thing.
I actually like how ROTS looks but AOTC has aged horribly, especially with the overuse of early fully CGI environments. It was barely passable for its time since Spider-Man and The Two Towers came out that same year.I know two of the three PT are butt ugly. But the vast majority of Star Wars movies are lookers. This? This looks much worse then the live action show we all just watched.![]()
Well, Lyle Lovett was married to Julia Roberts for a hot minute.I actually like how ROTS looks but AOTC has aged horribly, especially with the overuse of early fully CGI environments. It was barely passable for its time since Spider-Man and The Two Towers came out that same year.
I miss the days when a TV show made the jump to the big screen, the production values were actually noticeably different (bigger budget), and it felt like an epic event. This truly looks like a Disney Plus show.
Yes indeed.
