The Marvel Implosion

The Venom thing is basically a 5 part mini series that;s shipping in one month rather than 5 months... it's expensive, but I like it.

Ah, I see. I guess that makes a little more sense, since I think they occasionally do a mini on a weekly basis. But still, having it with those points just makes it look so overwhelming and all.

Its the 90's all over again. People like Venom again so Marvel is going to hammer us with the f***ing guy until we all despise him again. Flash gets tarnished in the process....

Marvel can never leave "well enough" alone. Once there's the tiniest bit of interest in a character they spam us into oblivion with material from that character. I predict this crossover is bot going to go well.

Yea let's not forget Deadpool had 3-4 ongoings at one point. They spammed him hard until interest dropped and all of them couldn't be sustained.

I like it as well but can't afford it.

The regular issue of Venom is 3.99, which it's usually only 2.99.

Then the added 4 issues at 2.99 a pop. So, instead of my normal 2.99 purchase of Venom that month it jumps to about 16 bucks.

Digging Rememder's Venom but that's WAY too much money. That money is better spent on Rick Rememder's Fear Agent trades which are a lot better than Venom, sorry to say.

Then ASM is triple shipping that month, I believe. So that's now an extra 3.99 I have to spend that month.

You are a much better man than me, TMOB. :oldrazz: I'm not taking Marvel's price hikes and over saturation anymore.

I'll just choose not to eat in February... :o

I'm not a fan of how they're using these decimal issues. I don't see why this Venom thing couldn't just have been a mini-series or an arc in the Venom series. It reeks of Marvel just trying to have their cake and eat it too by squeezing a whole crossover arc into one month without intruding on the ongoing series' issue count.

Well, at the end of the day... it's a gimmick... so we'll see if it bites them in the ass, or it makes them some money...

I'm assuming that when this story was pitched, it was used to draw readers to Hulk, X-23 and Ghost Rider... though the latter books have just been cancelled... then it makes you wonder if this story was originally going to be published though those other books in the same month... y'know... Part 1 in Venom 13... then parts 2 to 4 in Hulk, X-23 & Ghost Rider, and the Final part in Venom...

The part that bothers me is the numbering... I wish they would just release them as Venom's 13 to 17... but I get that's it's a gimmick...

And that's the problem. Anymore, Marvel seems to be 98% gimmick, and 2% substance.

Deadpool MAX II has been canceled. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! They're also ending their line of all-ages books.

It was supposed to be 12 issues, Marvel cut it off at 6. :(

I really do hope that Lapham and Baker get work elsewhere at Marvel. Not sure where else Baker's style would fit it but it would still be nice to see somewhere.

They are ending all ages books? Really dumb. Way to give DC more readers?

Just wow. I swear Marvel is being sabotaged in some way. Or a monkey is running their marketing and sales dept.

Well if there is any sense of satisfaction, Marvel has pretty much ended their "All Ages" and "Adults Only" on the same month. Deadpool MAX II was pretty much the last MAX book.

There isn't any satisfaction here. It's just more confusion than anything. I forgot that Punisher Max was over in Feb. too. I can't even remember the last time that Powers shipped for Icon. That new Brilliant series by Bendis has been super late. I TRY to read Marvel and they keep throwing road blocks up pushing me right over to DC, Image, and the Indie titles.

Try to read FF, Hulk, Venom, and Amazing Spider-Man....they say, "Hey, heres an idea. Lets double ship and add point one issues because comics aren't already expensive enough!". :oldrazz:

So, I'll be happy to lay my money down for the new Brubaker series over at Image Fatale. And Brian K. Vaughn's new series for Image as well. Didn't think I could afford them but Marvel has opened up the gate for me to afford them. Image and DC should send Marvel a gift basket or a stripper gram.

Unless Marvel plans on doing something really big soon with some of their other lines or with the titles but I haven't heard anything.

It sucks about DeadpoolMAX, but with all the cancellations and series being cut short, I kind of thought it'd happen. It just seemed too good to be true in the end, to get another full year of it.

I'm sure the all ages books will be relaunched. Also Lapham is writing that new AOA series. I'll maybe check it out.

I'm kinda surprised at their decision to axe the all ages stuff. I figured Disney would want that around considering the 616 line is more or less PG-13 stuff. I hope it doesn't mean they plan on easing the tone on the entire line....

Yeah, I'm really surprised because of Disney too. Boom is still producing a LOT of Disney stuff even into March. I don't know if they have the license for a specified amount of time or if the characters Boom are doing are just open season.

I would have thought Disney would have taken those back and had Marvel publishing them. Because I know a LOT of those BOOM Kids books sell like hotcakes at the comic shops.

I just, honestly, think that someone, or someones, in Marvel's sales department is a dummy. Or is watching too many Cheech and Chong movies. :cwink:

Huh. I was going to get my cousins subscriptions to those. Try and build upon their already existing interest in the heroes and build interest in reading.
Guess that idea got axed before it even took off the runway.

BOOM has a ton of all ages stuff and, of course, DC still has their all ages line. :cwink:

Not sure if this is just a personal preference or an actual contributing factor to the apparent "low sales," but for me, I stopped buying comics about a year and half ago simply because I didn't want to buy fifty billion issues just to get all the story I needed for Marvel's new "big event."

I miss the days of comics having their own stand-alone stories. Wanna read The Avengers? Then go read it, without having to catch up on what Iron Man has been doing for the last 10 issues of his own series.
:(

You and me both...
