Marvel Films The Marvel Studios News and Discussion Thread

Curiously, Marvel’s “Blade” remains dated for Nov. 7, 2025, even though the film, first announced at Comic-Con in 2019 with star Mahershala Ali, currently has no director. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has said that the studio intends to keep developing the screenplay for the project until they feel it’s ready, and Feige did not mention “Blade” at Comic-Con when discussing Marvel’s 2025 film slate.

That's adorable. They still believe that cameras will roll on Blade sometime soon. Again, it didn't even get brought up at Comic-Con! Blade will either get delayed, again, or shelved.

2025- Captain America, Thunderbolts
2026- Fantastic Four, Avengers
2027- Avengers, Shang-Chi

That would be my line up. Also the Feb 13, 2026 Marvel movie should have a director by now? If that is Shang-Chi 2 or some movie we don't know yet, that date is already 18 months from now... therefore that movie should be shooting in more or less 6 months from now.

My hope is Marvel are keeping that date warm for FF.

Superman just finished a 150 day + shoot, which I believe was the day after FF started principle photography. First Steps is slated to open only 2 weeks later.

For the 2022/23 films, Covid had impact for the productions and they were still wearing masks/face shield during filming. But the First Steps, might need extra months for post-prod, test screenings and pick-ups.

Okay, after seeing the gap between first day of filming/release day for the other films. They should be filming much sooner than 6 months for that Feb 2026 Marvel movie.

Also another big factor is the visual effects team for Marvel Studios are now part of an union, so they can't just rush their vfx teams like they used to in the past, and that didn't work well with Quantumania. So I don't know how they can polish everything for FF in 12 months when they just started filming the other day...

They're not releasing 10 movies within three years, those dates are surely going to change. Also Blade will most definitely be released 2026 or beyond, if ever. I'm guessing Spider-Man 4 will fit somewhere there as well.

Marvel has released 3 movies (not including No Way Home) a year between .2021-2023. They've also said that they'll release 3 movies a year max. So 10 movies in the next three years with another Spider-Man included seems par for the course.

Marvel's in-house VFX team only makes up a small part of the VFX artists that work on these films.

Yeah they did that at the peak of the MCU hype. Those days have passed and they did say last year they'll release fewer than before. Also for them to release all these films in just three years they need to have many more in active development and they don't. Like @psylockolussus said those dates are just placeholders, they don't mean all that much. Watch them being used for more delays that are to come, including Blade and possibly Doomsday too.

And they still said they'd put out 2-3 a year..

Remember when they announced Avengers 5 and 6 for 2025. And it didn't take that long to delay those movies.

Them leaving out the February 2026 film in SDCC 2024 is a red flag. Either thats the new date for Blade or for another movie that isn't also completely ready to go for early 2026.

The dates are place holders, to an extent. They won't move Doomsday IMO. That's a hard May 2026. Only way that gets delayed is if they opt to have it May 2027. It won't be moved out of May. So the wave of films prior all have to come before that. I cannot see all that much wiggle room. Maybe something can be released in Feb 2026, but I think Spider-Man 4 is coming Dec 2025 area. Sony just haven't announced it yet. But I am thinking that's the target, so something cannot move into that region. So I don't think the dates shift that much here

Two-three per year doesn't mean three every year, except for next year where they'll do four.

At the very best they'll put out those announced plus Spider-Man and maybe another Deadpool film because it broke records and I doubt even that. Doomsday supposedly starts filming early next year and there's no script yet. Look how many delays have occured for Blade, F4 and Brave New World, only to name a few. It's not a smooth sail and it won't become now all of a sudden. It's just placeholders for the inevitable delays.

I wonder if we'll ever see Armor Wars. Announced as a series in December 2020. News of it being redeveloped as a movie in September 2022 and nothing since then.

I mean, sure it's the plan until it isn't. But we can only speculate on the information we have. We are not privy to why project X got delayed and such until someone breaks that news. So it's hard to guess what project will have those kinds of issues and require extensive BNW style reshoots and such.

But the Sony thing makes the release slate unique when they put things out cause they're a slave to whatever Sony wants to do. They don't entirely control that situation. So if Sony wants Dec 2025 for Spider-Man, which I think most info we have indicates they are targeting it given the rumors it's filming late this year.

At this point, the only Marvel films that haven't started filming that have a confirmed director are Avengers 5 and 6. There should be a director for the Feb 2026 movie and Nov 2026 movie by now. The newly hired director would still need a lot of time for pre-production and who knows if that director doesn't leave. Directors left F4, Blade and Avengers in the past, so its possible it would happen for the 2026/27 mcu movies. So I wouldn't be surprised me if we see another year in which there are less than 3 Mcu movies released.

D23 is certainly going to be interesting next week
I don't think there will be any film announcements at D23.

I definitely think from 2025 to 2027, we are getting fewer films from Marvel Studios. Compare to 2021 to 2023 (9 movies + 1 with Sony). I'm expecting 8 movies the most + 1 movie with Sony.

Still many though. MCU would be hitting the 40th film milestone by 2027 or 2026. Crazy!

Maybe we'll get more next year then. We'll see. I glad they have cut their output down though.

No clue as to what these new dates are for.

I'm really curious how Doomsday and Secret Wars will make their current release dates? I'm struggling to see how they start filming another two-part film next year when the Russos and Christopher Markus were only recently hired.

The scripts for those are probably done before they came. Russos and Markus are obviously going to do some work with the script but it won't be extensive, I guess.

Worst case scenario, they would do rewrites during filming.

Does anyone know when the Marvel Studios panel is for D23 this weekend? I can't seem to find it on their website.

I was informed in another thread that anything they might show off would be during the Disney Entertainment Showcase on Friday night. The only dedicated panel they have is for animation.

Agatha comes out in September, so maybe they'll have something for that? Best guess, anyway.
