Marvel Films The Marvel Studios News and Discussion Thread

I'd argue revenue for a Blade or a War Machine movie would be bigger than this Agatha show.

The only way a Blade movie with Ali could be considered "big risk" is because of all the delays they caused themselves. It should not be THAT difficult, specially considering all the resources they have.

I'm sorry I just don't understand the logic behind some of these shows.

Blade could probably attract more revenue, since its going to hit theaters first. Plus digital sales/blu ray sales later on, that most Mcu shows don't even have right now.

But I also think The Marvels flopping really caught them off guard. If that movie earned trice of what it made at the box office (plus Quantumania grossing over at least $600 million worldwide), I bet the confidence for Blade and Armor Wars would have been a lot higher right now, even if they were still taking "long" to make. If 1 Mcu film already flopped (surprisingly), then they are definitely not immune for another one especially with less popular Marvel characters like Blade and Rhodey, in a lead role.

And oh, without Disney+, I doubt Kevin Feige would even entertain a War Machine movie. It was probably "upgraded" to a movie, because maybe they thought there's more money to be made for theaterical movies, than just putting it in a streaming service.

Both of these projects are in trouble because of their own doing. Too many things in development while seeing diminishing results in reviews and at the box office.

You're just saying a lot of things that don't make any sort of sense.
Armor Wars and Blade are taking too because of the Marvels, even though Blade was announced the Marvels even started filming and Armor Wars had already been announced to be shifted to a movie before the Marvels release.

Explain to me how a movie that was announced in 2018 is taking so long because of another movie that released 5 years later?
It doesn't make any sense.

Kevin Feige understood that the Disney+ shows damaged the brand. He has acknowledged this in recent interviews. He didn't talk about quality but he did talk about quantity.
And, this is probably a me thing, but even if the Avengers with RDJ and Chris Evans assembled on Disney+, for me it would still be a cheap show. There's something inherently 'lesser' about not being on the big screen, no matter how much money they throw at it.

Its not just you.

When I read the Young Avengers rumours for Disney+, I was like how are they going to pull it off without looking like a cheap version of the Avengers.

So we've just ceased trying to actually have any sort of discussion and became an echo box huh?

Guys, you're arguing in circles at this point and we get it. Let the argument go.

Covid hurt the MCU, Strikes hurt the MCU, Overproducing content hurt the MCU.

I just wanna see Rhodey get a chance to finally shine.

A Doctor Strange 3 movie should have been fast tracked since 2022. Multiverse of Madness is turning 3 next year. And a 4 year gap between sequels is still too long.

The second one was 6 years after the original and performed "better".

Well why did it perform better? Dr. Strange appeared in Infinity War/Endgame, don't you think that would have done something? Also Scarlet Witch was in the movie + the Professor.

Marvel has fumbled so much when it came to the character of War Machine and Don Cheadle. Dude has probably lost so many good roles waiting on Armor Wars as a series and now as a film and still nothing.

Since it's more and more likely Armor Wars doesn't happen, I sure hope he has a role in Doomsday.

I doubt he has lost any good roles because of Armor Wars. If they want to use the character before the show (now movie) comes out, absolutely nothing prevents them from doing that. Hell, he was the second biggest star (sort of) in one of their other shows just last year.

And as for Cheadle (not War Machine), he's free to take whatever work he wants/can get unless and until Marvel actually sets a production date for the movie. And he has been working over the last few years (even outside of Secret Invasion/What If?).

Well what were they thinking upgrading a TV series to a theaterical film anyway? When they probably initially decided to give Rhodey his own show because he is not appealing enough to headline a solo film (which is probably the case with Hawkeye, Vision and Scarlet Witch).

And they probably know reverting Armor Wars as a tv series won't sound good as well and now we are here, with will still it happen or not? The lack of hindsight with these shows is truly MCU's biggest blunder.

I think they are being extra careful after a few flops (which they didn't have for like 10 years in a row) and they aren't green lightning anything without a proper, solid foundation. That's my guess.

Quantumania underperforming and The Marvels flopping definitely caught them off guard. But even if those two movies were successful, they still added 4 place holder film dates for a single year (2022 to 2025 iirc), while also planning to do at least 4 shows for Disney+ per year, and it affected the quality of the movies, and the shows didn't really live up to their potential as Marvel Studios was doing so many projects at the same time. Vfx time management was also terrible based from reports.

I don't know why no one at Disney didn't see it as doing way too much, and because of it, they are facing repercussions from decisions they made 3 to 4 years ago.

Because Disney was chasing a Netflix (over)valuation and needed to accelerate subscriber growth for their fledgling streaming app. Marvel could seemingly do no wrong at that time, so why not feed the masses with an all you can eat MCU buffet.

Quality be damned if it gets the company a 500m dollar market cap.
