Days of Future Past The Master of Magnetism: The Ian McKellen Thread

Yes, Weekend Update.

"Judi Dench. Little Judi Dench. Fat little Judi Dench."

I loved that SNL sketch. :funny:

(for those who haven't seen it, he was playing Maggie Smith giving that year's Oscar predictions on Weekend Update)

It's a shame this thread isn't as active, but I suppose there's little discussion about McKellen's Magneto. He's always been perfect in the role. I'll agree I miss the helmet, The Caped Knight.

Here's a wallpaper I made--you can't NOT appreciate McKellen's consistent bad@ss-ery in promo pics.

I think this may well be my favorite Magneto costume of the X-films. Sans the helmet, of course.

I wasn't a fan of the helmet in the OT. Although I wasn't a fan of the movie it appeared in, the Shaw/Fassneato helmet was the best interpretation of the helmet from the comics. Had the helmet appeared in DOFP I'm afraid they would've fashioned it against McKellen's original helmet so I think I'm happy with him without it.

this is still my favorite magneto shot with the helmet in any X-men film ever, we probably won't get any shots as good as this with the new helmet which i think is sad, they watered down the helmet :(

I love, not really, McKellan as Magneto but I'd love him to say in this.

"So I wore a helmet, which was the style at the time, Now where were we? Oh yeah"

On the contrary I thought the one they had for McKellen in the OT was way too tight.

The buzz feed interview with McKellen and Stewart is well worth the watch.... I think they'd come back for another go!

Less helmet = more Ian. How lucky we were to get that guy from the start. He can absolutely capture the whole screen just for himself, if that's what's asked of him.

About the Wolverine mid-credits scene, I was more thrilled about Ian than Patrick. Even though I missed the old Xavier and love Stewart too. But McKellen, he just nailed that...that...something.

Stewart got a chuckle out of me, weaving thru the frozen people in that airport. I didn't think it was a very well-directed scene. I think it's been said Mangold directed it and was written by Kinberg.

Kinberg and Singer. Directed by Mangold. Wish he was a bit more subtle in his approach, cause as you said, Xavier wheeling through the airport was bizarre.

The airport set itself looked cramped too. It just looked like they filmed it in some foyer.

Ah ok didn't know Singer co-wrote it too.

For all our complaints though the after-credits seem to have worked for general audiences (and comic fans). And for that I am happy.

I remember the reaction of that online was "Best after-credits scene ever!"

Yeah i think it would have been better if Logan turned around and xavier was there, I dunno why they needed to show him driving around people as it took away the surprise factor

That wasn't executed properly but the scene still served its purpose and thats make people excited about next the X-Men film.:hubba

Apart of the Avengers teaser that shown at the end of Captain America, I think its the next mid-credits/post-credits scene that got the most reaction.

totally agree with you and EnDz, that wasnt a well planned and directed scene. Xavier almost running betwen those people made me thought some viewers could start laughing but thankfully it didnt happen..

I think it was one of the best after credits scenes, if not the best. Because of what it meant. It's not just Nick Fury coming to get Tony Stark. It's Magneto and Xavier back together to recruit Logan, meaning he knows whatever is coming is gonna be some serious ****. It also plays on the scene in FC.

And it's also the return of Xavier who died in 2006. And Magneto's powers are back. It's all kinds of awesome. It's like saying "Hey remember X3? Well forget it"

But yeah the wheelchair thing was really awkward. Didn't need to go down like that.
