The MATRIX Appreciation Thread

Honest Trailer- The Matrix

In my opinion, this is now the second best trilogy of all-time, under Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy. :word:

I actually really like everything with the Architect and the various reveals in Reloaded. Many of the ideas in Reloaded are as interesting and well employed as anything from the first film but unfortunately the story is let down by not being self contained and instead being extremely let down by the second half in Revolutions.

I've been meaning to revisit these films. I avoided them for several years after having seen the first one far too many times. I had planned to sit down and watch all three over the summer but it never happened. Perhaps next month some time.

Love the 1st movie!

Love the action in the 2nd movie!

Disappointed with the 3rd movie!

Didn't care about the Animatrix!

ohhhhh i liked the animatrix. fanstastic short movies.

Second Renaissance is almost better than Matrix 2 & 3 combined.
The Matrix is/was great, the sequel not so much save for the characters ( Merv, Persephone and their odd henchmen ).

I haven't seen them in years, but I remember really liking the Last Flight of the Osiris, the two Renaissance shorts and the Samurai one (name escapes me). Oh, and the one with the sprinter who damn near runs his way out of the Matrix.

Must re-watch these, and the Gotham Knights one's while I'm at it.

World Record was amazing. so happy that they did those shorts.

Huge Matrix universe fan. Reloaded has actually become my favorite in the trilogy. Just so much coolness and style with a great mind-f*** at the end. The first one is the most "classic" and probably the best film of the bunch, but it's also the most like a standard good guys vs. bad guys predictable Hollywood action film, believe it or not. It hasn't quite held up with me the way I thought it would. I think it's kind of funny that people put the first one on this pedestal while tearing down the second two, but there's loads of cheese and pulpiness in the first one. My biggest beef with Revolutions is simply that it doesn't 100% feel like its own movie. Despite having its own tone and feel, a lot of it just feels like one big climax ala Deathly Hallows Pt. 2. I would've preferred more of a balanced, stand alone film, but it is what it is. The Wachowskis conceived and shot the 2 sequels as one giant movie really. I like the story that Revolutions told though and unlike a lot of people, I felt the story ended the right way. All in all the trilogy was a great achievement in cinema and is criminally underrated.

Animatrix is awesome too, of course. 1st and 2nd Renaissance is basically required viewing to understand Revolutions.

So, Matrix was on TV last night and I watched it for the first time in a while, though in total it's probably about my 25th viewing! Still stands up IMO, great film and it really redefined some parts of the sci-fi genre at that time. Hard to believe it's 15yrs now since it came out, I remember being blown away on first viewing and then having to explain to some friends who subsequently watched it (and couldn't understand it) ......... exactly what it was about.

I've never really found it that hard to understand from day one, but then I work in IT and was always interested in computers, so the concept of a human brain being plugged into a simulated environment wasn't rocket science to me.

I was only ten when I saw it, and I immediately understood it. And I was no genius. :p

I know, but I'm still amazed that some people don't get it. My ex-gf couldn't get her head round it at all, thought they were in a parallel dimension or something.

The Matrix has layers.

Even if you understand the basic The Cave allegory there are also cross-religious and socioeconomic commentary.

Even on a basic level most sci-fi can't claim that versatility.

The Matrix-10/10
The Matrix Reloaded-6.5/10
The Matrix Revolutions-7/10

The first one is still an all-time classic!

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for the rumored new Matrix trilogy. It was reported earlier this year and still hasn't been debunked (unlike the hoax the AICN a few years ago).

With geek culture hitting an all-time high level of saturation, I'd believe it. I mean if Episode VII can happen then anything is possible really.

Regardless of what people thought of the Matrix sequels, I think it's a great sci-fi universe and one I'd love to revisit on the big screen in some form.

The worst scene in the whole series is the Zion party with the weird sex scene.

That scene was terrible. Plus, we saw Keanu's butt. Ugh. :o

Nah it was a celebration of being human something that were severly lacking in todays society. All i hear is war, war, someone's been killed etc When the time comes wether it be a alien invasion or machine takeover . Most of us would try to side with them to kill our own.

The Matrix is Awesome the sequels were a bade faded image of the first film.

I loved how passionate and serious the characters were about taking back earth in the first film it was refreshing but in the sequels the humans were scumbags, second guessing Neo and treating each other disrespectful. Its like why save the earth from the machines at least there not a holes to each other. The sequels made me care less for the humans. Its like the Wachowskis forgot how the characters were in the first film. I thought humanity would be a better version of itself but they were just all the same and not worth saving IMO.
