I want to see a VH1 spinoff of the surreal life. Put Palin, Hannity, Ann Coulter, BIll O'Reilly, Pelosi, Al Sharpton, Hillary, Al Franken, and Vern Troyer (Mini me) in a double wide trailer for 2 months. I can alrdy see the spin off when a drunk Vern pees on Ann Coulter and she falls in love and proposes to him.

OHIO TEENAGER SHOT & WOUNDED WHILE STEALING MCCAIN YARD SIGN

Teen shot over vandalized McCain sign, police say

(CNN) -- A Warren Township, Ohio, man faces charges of felonious assault after authorities say he fired his rifle at two teens who were attempting to deface his McCain presidential campaign yard sign.

Kenneth Rowles, 50, pleaded not guilty to the charge Monday, according to CNN affiliate WBNS.

Bail was set at $10,000.

Rowles told police he was sitting on his porch Saturday when a tan SUV pulled up and a black youth jumped out and ran toward his house, screaming, "This is for Obama."

He said another male was hanging out of the passenger window screaming the same thing.

Rowles said he went inside, got his rifle and fired three shots to scare the youths away, according to a Warren Township police report.

He told officers he believes that the men "were the same two that have been destroying his McCain sign."

Just hours before the shooting, Rowles called police and said that a car had stopped in front of his house and that a black male "ran up and said something about Obama," according to the report, and "damaged his sign again."

One of the youths, 17-year-old Kyree Flowers, was shot in the arm, according to a police report. He and the second youth, Patrick Wise Jr., 16, told police they were in the car attempting to leave when Rowles fired at them.

"Kyree stated that he witnessed the homeowner trying to shoot Patrick but he was having trouble chambering a round," the police report said.

The teens admitted that they had defaced the McCain sign several times, Warren Township police Lt. Don Bishop told CNN.

Rowles' is the only McCain sign on a street full of Obama signs, he said.

Bishop said the teenagers probably will not be charged -- and are unlikely to damage campaign signs again, as the incident scared them.

Warren Township is in Trumbull County not far from Cleveland, Ohio.

Oh yeah, btw... Joe the Plumber endorsed McCain today.

Y'know, he was going on the man's property, and vandalizing his sign. While shooting may be a bit extreme....I think it is his right.

I'd say a bit extreme is an understatement. It was a couple of teenagers stealing a sign. If he wanted to scare them off he shouldn't have been aiming for them. He was obviously trying to injure them. I'm not saying the kids were in the right either, but this is an insane and almost deadly overreaction.

A gun should not have entered the equation at all. These idiots shouldn't have been stealing the man's sign... but shooting someone because he was stealing a plastic YARD SIGN is just as idiotic a move...

Kids are stupid these days. Maybe a bullet in the ass will make him think twice before stealing and vandalizing other people's property again. I don't feel sorry for him at all.

This is a tough situation. If he thought they were going to harm him, they were on his property and he had the right. However if he did it knowing they were just going to steal or vandalize his sign, bad on him.

A plastic sign will is not worth a human life. He could have easily called the police, I agree with jman that a gun should never have entered the equation unless he felt threatened. Even at that, IMO, he could have shot upwards and told them to get off his property, he didn't have to aim at them.

Either way both sides were being stupid, one side however could have taken a teens life. It just shows you how stupid ppl are getting this election. It also makes you wonder if the next step will finally happen and someone actually die? It just keeps escalating. We started with words, then mock hangings, then dead animals, then ppl cutting themselves, then ppl getting beat up, and now a gunshot wound?

I think it's outrageous to have those kids getting shot just because they were trying to steal a sign, and it doesn't matter if it's McCain or Obama. The owner could've just scared them off, but he injured them intentionally and that ain't right.

It wouldn't have happened at all, if those fools wouldn't have messed with his sign or been in his yard. They know better, they have themselves to blame.

That made me laugh but that's my view as well lol.

They should've never been on his property. It is his right to keep himself from being victimized. If they stayed off of his property, they would be fine.

Well, they were just stealing a sign, not to vandalize or burglarize his house. Kids have pulled pranks before, like egging or throwing toilet papers at people's house, but you never heard about them getting shot at. So I don't understand why it is justified to shoot at kids stealing McCain sign.

Because they were on his property, stealing his property. He has a right to defend it. Do you think if he called 911 they would've got there in time? It is his property. Those kids had no right to be there, and frankly, got what they had coming.

I agree with Matt, I am a firm believer that a homeowner has the right to protect their property. I do think him shooting the kids is excessive though. Maybe a couple warning shots.

He can show his gun and the kids will run away, but to fire the weapon at the kids is just excessive. If they were dangerous criminals and the homeowner felt threatened physically then I'll agree with his decision, but he knew that they were only after the sign and yet he decided to injure them anyway.

He has a right to defend his property, but not in the manner that he chose. The law is not in his favor on this one, either, otherwise he wouldn't have been slapped with assault charges. :o

you don't have to shoot someone to defend your property. if you have to resort to possibly killing someone just because they're stealing a damn sign then you need anger management. just the sight of a gun is enough to turn most people away. he could have easily fired shots in the sky...he didn't have to shoot towards the kids. even if someone stealing property gives that owner the right to shoot the robber, that doesn't mean they HAVE to. those kids deserved to be taught a lesson, but there's a difference between teaching someone a lesson and shooting with intent to injure or kill. you can't teach people a lesson if they're dead.

what ever happened to just running out with a broom, screamin "yea hooligans!" :(
haven't you ever seen Billy Madison?

I don't understand why he didn't shoot in the air as a warning shot or something like that.

Shooting in the air can actually be incredibly dangerous or cause quite a bit of damage due to gravity eventually pulling the bullet down at usually quite a fast velocity. Its like a bullet being shot from the air.

How do you know he did not feel threatened? He is old, possibly not entirely of his right mind...he sees some teenagers sneaking around his property in the middle of the night...and its not like 30 years ago where teenagers worst crime was putting some flaming dog poop on your front porch, ringing the door bell and running.

According to the FBI UCR, in 2007 there were over 18,000 robberies in the United States committed by people UNDER the age of 18. 14 % of which were home invasions. It may seem like a playful prank but you just can't be sure now-a-days and I sure as hell wouldn't risk my family's safety. I go out there screaming, "I HAVE A GUN, YOU BETTER RUN!" there is a damn good chance they have one too and start shooting. I'd rather err on the side of my family's caution when they are the one's breaking the law.

Just because he was charged, does not mean he is guilty under the definition. A big part will come down to his mens rea and whether a jury of his peers feel that he felt sufficiently threatened to fire a gun. Innocent until proven guitly, Jag.

just as dangerous as shooting someone directly.

Shoot at the ground then

And if they are armed and decide to shoot back? If it was your family and you saw a couple of kids snooping around your property in the middle of the night, would you take the risk of giving them warning and the opportunity to return fire?
