McCain's filthy campaign, along with his votes supporting the Pork Laden bailout bill and his wish to buy up mortgages have ensured me not voting for him.

Oh wow. I think he's turning off quite a few voters out there right now. He's trying to turn it around though, which is kind of cynical. Someone on MSNBC just pointed out that the only reason McCain is now saying that Obama should be treated with respect is because his internal poll numbers are showing that fueling the fires of hatred is not working with the overall electorate. It's probably hurting him with Independents and Moderates.

Hey I called out on this. McCain is a moron for alienating the fiscal conservatives in favor of placating to some ambiguous crowd during the debate (housing and bailout DESPITE his proposal being drawn from the bailout). The fiscal conservatives are probably one of the few that are happy to "not to vote at all" or "vote independent". Hell Chris Buckley is a fiscal conservative and now he is endorsing Obama.

Serves McCain right.

Yes, I was appalled by that comment in the debate as well. It's a policy I don't agree with at all. And, I'm sure when Obama is elected, he will implement something similar. He deserves to be raked over the coals for it as well.

Any fiscal conservative that endorses Obama is a person betraying his own ideals.

Which is exactly why I won't vote for Obama either.

Chris Buckley's rationale is probably along the lines of "well he seems smarter than McCain, maybe he will be humble enough to recognize his mistakes". Not the "I believe in his ideals now".

Christopher Buckley said:
I’ve read Obama’s books, and they are first-rate. He is that rara avis, the politician who writes his own books. Imagine. He is also a lefty. I am not. I am a small-government conservative who clings tenaciously and old-fashionedly to the idea that one ought to have balanced budgets. On abortion, gay marriage, et al, I’m libertarian. I believe with my sage and epigrammatic friend P.J. O’Rourke that a government big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take it all away.
He based Obama's intelligence on his books: Ironically, there is emerging evidence that the books "written" by Obama was in fact Ghost written. Though I don't know the full details of this.

But honestly, I doubt Obama will change his political stances, a person can be smart but find ways to rationalize his flawed beliefs.

Yeah, the narrative out there now is that William Ayers ghostwrote the book. Color me unconvinced. :whatever:

This is pure B.S.

what a lousy day for the mccain campaign. mccain pisses off many of his followers by defending obama for being called an arab and terrorist sympathizer and palin is found guilty of abuse of power by a bi-partisan panel. i wonder how much they're going to drop in the polls over the next couple of days?

I flipped over to Fox News for like 1 min to see their reaction to Palin being found guilty of abuse of power in Troopergate, and according to them it's Obama dropping in the polls heh. Someone said something like, "Obama has dropped from like 8 points ahead to 4 in the last few days" or something like that. Then went on to say troopergate will not influence poll numbers at all.

Of course this is Fox, so pay it no mind heh. Polls can be off, but I'd guess it's a minor hit. Enough you can tell he dropped, but nothing major, maybe 2 points in most mainstream non far left, or far right polls.

Right now I have this image of McCain watching the news about Palin and cussing a lot.

yeah, i flipped over to there too but i couldn't stomach watching dick morris anymore. if there are demons on earth, or reptilians or whatever, that dude surely is one. he's like a rotten, vicious little harvey fierstein-like troll.

I don't think it's him. It's the people surrounding his campaign. His handlers and spokespeople are running his campaign entirely at this point.

He might not agree with it, but he allowed it to happen.

I've heard, and certainly do believe, that alot of the damage done to the McCaing campaign has mostly been self-inflicted.

Ever since the economy hit the wall, from the point that McCain said 'the fundamentals of the economy are still strong'....basically from that moment on, most everything that has hurt McCain was in some way caused by himself or his campaign.

Even little things, like having his attack dog...his...*****, if you will (yeah, I said...she's a bulldog, no?) attack Obama, but then not bringing it up at the second debate has caused some static within his own supporters. It's tough when there's static within your diehard base for certain stuff, even like that.

Lots of stuff have happened that have slid things in favor of Obama...and I'm convince if McCain would just keep his mouth shut most of the time he might have been better off for it.

Regarding the McCain campaign defense of the angry taunts:
Brian Rodgers
McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers adds in another statement: “Barack Obama’s attacks on Americans who support John McCain reveal far more about him than they do about John McCain. It is clear that Barack Obama just doesn’t understand regular people and the issues they care about. He dismisses hardworking middle class Americans as clinging to guns and religion, while at the same time attacking average Americans at McCain rallies who are angry at Washington, Wall Street and the status quo."

Remember in 2004 at the RNC, Bush supporters were wearing band aids with purple hearts painted on them to mock John Kerry's supposedly exaggerated Vietnam injuries? The Bush campaign asked them to remove them out of respect to Kerry. So...George Bush has more decency than John McCain?

Now THAT is a scary thought.

In what polls? The only way they could possibly, legitimately make that claim is if they are citing two different polls. The biggest drop in the last week for Obama was in the Hotline poll when Obama dropped three points from +6 to +3 yesterday, but this morning Hotline's poll had Obama up by 7. They would probably also love to know that there is also not a single poll out today that has less than a 5 point lead for Obama, and that Obama's lead even in Fox News' own poll has actually increased in the last two days. The poll that conservatives were freaking out about, Zogby, had a 2 point lead for Obama a few days ago, and now it has Obama up by 5. Someone needs a reality check.

So I hear (via a prominent member of the sane Republican faction) that the word on the right side of the street is that the Republican National Committee is about to pull the plug on its joint ads with the McCain campaign, and devote its resources instead to trying to save a couple of the senators who are at serious risk of losing their seats. Now this is gossip, albeit of the high class variety; take it with the requisite pinch of salt. But it points to some real vulnerabilities in the McCain campaign’s finances. McCain’s decision to opt for public funding has meant that he’s had enormous difficulty competing with the Obama money raising machine. He’s been able to partly compensate by co-financing ads with the RNC (this skirts the limits of the legislation that he himself co-wrote but is just about legal). This has kept him competitive in TV advertising, albeit still significantly outgunned. But if the Republicans are as worried as they should be about the impending elections, there will be a lot of calls on that money, and the RNC is going to have to make some tough choices. Should it keep spending money on the presidential campaign in the hope that McCain will win despite the polls, or should it instead try to minimize the damage of a McCain defeat by doing its best to stop the Democrats from making big gains in the Senate? Decisions, decisions ...

So... if this pans out it's more or less a concession on the part of the Republicans.

CROWD BOOS AFTER MCCAIN SAYS OBAMA NOT 'AN ARAB'

So...by these standards, the idea that we should not question Palin's record and readiness to be president is offensive to democracy too. Right?

Cool user name and avatar dude. Great whites are my favorite animal to learn about. :yay:
My favorite fact about them is that they, like all male sharks, have two "penises" (claspers). In the case of the great white, an adult male can have claspers that approach the size and weight of Louisville Sluggers. :woot:

Aaaaaanyways.... :oldrazz:

McCain gets some definite points from me for that.

I feel kinda bad for the guy. He runs an honorable, honest campaign in 2000 and loses. Then he runs an absolutely despicable, dishonest campaign using dirty tactics and he's likely going to lose. He must be so confused and sad that in all likelihood he's pretty much damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. I mean, I don't feel bad enough for him to vote for him...

Well I'll be damned. You learn something new every day. :woot::hehe:

I guess I must be heartless then...I have zero sympathy for him. He completely betrayed himself. He turned away from the independent support that gave him the nomination in favor of hardcore conservative appeasement. He became the very thing he condemned in 2000. He has run the kind of campaign he 'vowed' to never run. In my opinion, he is getting exactly what he deserves.
