Lol....right where they want them my ass. How does a long time Senator, a decently respected man, a POW Maverick for God's sake, become an underdog?

Also agreeing with the reboot statement. How many times can McCain try to introduce himself this campaign? How many new stances on what will solve the economy can he take? I'd think it'd be better to run one campaign rather than trying to start over after each hicup. Speaks to how badly his campaign's running and how many problems are big enough that he feels he'll lose if he doesn't change things up.

Mark my words, he'll get on the "Ecomony Needs Fixing" bus now. Like the article said, there will be "unwavering" focus on it for the next few weeks. If he had been smart, he would've been doing that all along. Twit.

It's sad, but probably will work with some ppl. It seems like a, "What have you done for me lately?" race sometimes. Like the guy who gets you to like him at the last second can get your vote despite what they've done up to that point.

However hasn't early voting started in some states already? I'd like to think most ppl have made up their mind already. Switching his focus for the millionth time won't do anything in the long run. He should be focused on making sure as much of his base gets to the polls as he can, because he's doing a piss poor job of getting undecided and new voters to back him.

So disgusting.

I find this type of thing personally insulting because I have features similar to Barack's (biracial background, same skin color, so-called "exotic" facial features, etc.). To see that this is what some Americans equate our physical characteristics with is downright infuriating.

I guess we all do "look alike" as far as some people are concerned.

McCain should come out and say that he will do the opposite of what Obama has *already* done (or has said he'll do), as ONE measure to get the economy going again. To that end, the things McCain should emphasize that he will avoid:

- Making special deals with Fannie and Freddie and accepting large payoffs for those deals
- Working closely and deliberately with ACORN by a) funding them with nearly a million bucks b) working as a trainer of their radical members on how to strong-arm banks into giving loans to unqualified buyers c) standing in the way of Republicans who were trying to get Fannie and Freddie regulated (despite being 'on the side of regulation') d) NOT raising taxes for everyone, which is what Obama will do when he allows Bush's tax cuts to expire for the 'middle class' and when he raises payroll, capital gains and business income taxes on all companies making more than 250k (or about 50% of small businesses, and ALL large businesses), since those taxes are paid by consumers and employees.

There's a lot McCain can do to both emphasize why this economic disaster happened (and Obama's pivotal role in it) and what he'll do to get it back under control.

It has nothing to do with his physical features, and everything to do with his name and so-called Muslim ties that the right has tried to establish ad nauseam.

That sign has nothing to do with skin color. I'm not defending it, but for you to draw a parallel between that sign and someone's skin color ... is stretching to say the least.

mccain can label himself a fighter all he wants. if his plans aren't appealing to people, he's not going to convince anybody he's worth voting for. his plans to buy out all the bad mortgages and give a $5000 health credit were ridiculed, and rightly so. he's got nothing going for him at this point.

Ridiculed by whom? Right after McCain mentioned the bad mortgage plan, Obama AGREED. As to the tax credit for health insurance, and applying a SMALL tax to those who already have health insurance as way of paying so as NOT to increase taxes on everyone, sounds like a good idea to me...

Osama bin Laden
Obama bin Lyin

McCain rallies on tape calling Obama an Arab, and questioning his religion, and nationality. Yet someones with a sign at a McCain rally comparing the name of a Presidential candidate that attendies of McCain rallies have been bigoted and racists towards with a known middle eastern terrorists has NOTHING to do with the race?

He's not stretching at all, with all due respect you're just overdefensive of the McCain campaign. It's too late to ignore the racism exihbitied at McCain rallies, there are too many videos, and it's in the news. You can defend McCain, but it's becoming obvious that a decent amount of ppl at McCain rallies see Obama as 'different' because of both his skin color, and his ancestory.

ridiculed by his own party. don't you read anymore?

so you don't mind when "small" taxes are added to people who already have health insurance? that's very unlike you.

All McCain did was suggest a way that part of the bigger 700 billion bailout should be spent. Paulson said there are provisions for that already. Thus, no harm done.

As to the taxes, sure I don't mind paying a 5% tax on my health insurance if it means everyone who needs it (who isn't too lazy to work, mind you) gets health insurance. It sure as hell beats raising EVERYONE'S taxes A LOT to pay for nationalized health care when we're already 50 trillion in the hole for these politically beneficial 'entitlement programs.'

not everyone's taxes, just those making $250,000 or more and it's not "nationalized" health care. it's making health care available to those who need it and allowing those who already have it to continue to stick with their employer's plan.

Dude, with all due respect, you're wrong. While, sure, INCOME tax may not go up for those making less than 250k a year, payroll taxes, business income taxes and capital gains taxes WOULD. All corporations pass their taxes along to the consumer and the employee. If Obama raises taxes on Wal-Mart, for example, those who work at Wal-Mart will see their net paychecks shrink because of the increase to payroll and other taxes. The reason, obviously, is that as a publicly traded company, Wal-Mart has to maintain profitability. The only way to maintain profitability in the face of higher taxation as a corporation is to reduce your work force and increase prices.

I just don't get why anyone would want higher taxes when the tax burden is already out of control. Our businesses already pay the second highest taxes in the world. What benefit will a tax cut to 'middle class' people be if they don't have jobs?

McCain doesn't get it and most people know it.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is leading his Republican rival John McCain 53 percent to 43 percent among likely voters, according to a Washington Post-ABC News opinion poll released on Monday.

Sixty-four percent of voters now view Obama favorably, up six percentage points from early September, according to the poll taken after Tuesday night's presidential debate.

Nearly a third of voters have a better opinion of the Illinois senator because of his debate performance
while eight percent have a lower opinion of him, the poll found.

Twelve percent of voters have a higher opinion of Arizona Sen. McCain after the debate, while 26 percent said they had a worse opinion of him.

The final debate on Wednesday at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, will be the last of three face-offs between the two candidates before the November 4 election.

According to the poll, 52 percent of voters now strongly favor McCain, down seven percentage points from early September.

More than half of respondents, 59 percent said the Arizona senator has been mainly attacking his opponent rather than addressing the issues, up from 48 percent who said the same thing in August, the Post reported.

Sixty-eight percent of respondents said Obama has been mainly addressing the issues.

On taxes, an issue McCain has been aggressively highlighting, Obama has gained a significant lead over his opponent.

According to the poll, Obama now leads McCain 52 percent to 41 percent on the question of who is trusted to handle taxes. In late September, the candidates were near even on that question with Obama ahead of McCain by two percentage points, 48 percent to 46 percent.

The poll of 1,101 adults, including 945 registered votes, was taking Wednesday though Saturday. The margin of error is plus or minus three percentage points for the full sample and three-point-five percentage points for the sample of 766 likely voters.

McCain is currently down in Colorado, Iowa, New Mexico (these three states, on top of the Kerry states, secure an Obama win), Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Nevada, Florida, West Virginia, and North Dakota.

Instead of campaigning in states where he's down by double digits (such as Iowa and Pennsylvania), shouldn't he be in states which he NEEDS to win?

I am aware he and Palin went to North Carolina and Virginia today... but this is after the two of them spent time and money campaigning in Iowa, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Wisconsin-- three states he doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning. Honestly, this is one of the most poorly-organized campaigns I have EVER seen.

McCain and Palin should have been in the above swing states weeks ago... instead, they have wasted time and money, and I do not see how they can win most or all of the above states within the next three weeks. Something truly damaging to Obama has to come out, something such as a sex scandal or actual evidence that he supported terrorist activities. Otherwise, there's not enough time for McCain-Palin to make up all the losses they have accumulated in the past month.

And you're fine with those news taxes and suddenly love new taxes... when it's the GOP giving them to you...

Centrist. My. Ass.

I think such thing is not people's business, Americans have to change this puritanical nonsense, Clinton has his "sex scandals" so? He was a better President than Bush and others, sex has nothing to do with a man's leadership and intellectual skills. The rest of the world chuckles with such "scandals", corruption or incompetence is what should matter, not private affaires.

 no, PEOPLE who make $250,000 or more a year, not companies. where'd you get that from?

My friends join with me Wednesday night of October 15 and watch John McCain whip Obama's you know what in the final debate.

---Draw attention to what "ACORN" is doing in Ohio and other states to perpetuate voter fraud (Obama's "Community Organizer" experience was with ACORN).

---Bring up Obama's ties to Kenya and the situation there, particularly how the author of "ObamaNation" was recently detained on a trip there for digging into Obama's past.

---Bring up Obama's connections to the Radical Left and radicals such as William Ayers. Cite information from Obama's own book concerning his mentor "Frank", a reference to Frank Marshall Davis--an activist with radical Communist views.

---Bring up recent comments by Louis Farrakhan about Obama being the "Messiah". (In direct contrast to recent Democrats' attacks about Sarah Palin's comments on the Iraq War being a "mission from God".)

---Challenge Obama to give a direct answer rather than "rhetoric" concerning his FAR LEFT past and ideals. Particularly, bring up the fact that Obama was the lone Senator to take the floor to oppose a law that would allow medical aide to be given to babies who survived attempted abortions!

---Directly talk to the American people about how Obama's ideas mirror SOCIALISM.

---And personally, explain to the American people, particularly Conservatives, why he (McCain) voted for this financial bailout when he could have been a true "Maverick" and voted against it, especially in light of all the "pork" that was inserted into it.

---Talk about how the Republicans tried to address the problems with Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac back in 2001 and 2004, only to be silenced by Democrats who played the "race card" in defense of those entities whom they were primarily responsible for creating.

---Bring up the fact that with today's folding economy, Barack's "green plan" has been rendered impotent and too expensive for us taxpayers.

---Bring up the connection that raising taxes on the so called "rich" (who employ us mediocre wage earners) has a tendency to make these so called "rich" companies cut back on costs in order to pass these tax raises onto the consumer. One of these "costs" is paying wages to employees; therefore, the EMPLOYERS cut cost by eliminating EMPLOYEES. Or, they simply "export" their operation. I think a lot of American people do NOT make this connection.

---Directly address Wednesday's debate monitor Bob Schieffer on CBS (and other mainstream media outlets) about their blatant bias in reporting on this election. Palin touched on this near the end of her debate with Biden but John McCain needs to let his temper out "just a little bit" concerning this.

---Look into the camera when Obama compares McCain to George W. Bush (which IS inevitable) and say --calmly but firmly-- "I am NOT George W. Bush."

---Use his personality traits. McCain needs to draw on his known temper and tear Obama to pieces (with FACTS). Obama exhibits a "panic" mode and starts stuttering when his teleprompter malfunctions or when he doesn't have an answer or "comeback". McCain needs to exploit this.

After doing all of the above, he should have this election wrapped up!

HAHAHAHA!

And in that list of yours, you describe the fictitious Kenyan situation as something McCain should be going after Obama with!

Classic.

Edit - NM, Thinkton posted more than "debate" after I posted this.

At the very least you have to appreciate Thinkton's dedication to using McCain's "My Friends" in all of his posts since McCain said it lol. Tho the, "whip his you know what" was a pretty sorry line to begin with, I'd recommend not using that catch phrase repeatedly heh.
