Batman '89 The Michael Keaton Appreciation Thread

Everyone who moans keatons build, such check out the footage of bale talking about robin with russell crow somwhere on this site. You would think he was in the middle of filming the machinist 2 not batman 2! Guess those batman or fatman jibes hurt nore than he's letting on!:yay:

"Kinda feel like Elvis, walking into ceasars!"

Like so many have recognized, there's a scary quality about those eyes. Bob Kane said that Batman could 'be any Tom, Dick, or Harry.' So you know what? Keaton's a tough guy. He is average height, but he's not like a midget or something.

There's more than enough man there for someone to be on guard once he gives them that look.

That is really what Batman's presence is all about. He is a human like you, but he's more experienced, more knowing, wiser, and can hold his ground proficiently when pitted against seemingly unbeatable opponents. When I see Keaton acting in any of his movies, I come to know that a man really can give off that Batman essence. Just in his behavior, and all the subtleties going along with it.

Awesome post. Totally agree. I also agree with the comments about Multiplicity. Another great thing about The Last Time is that Keaton plays both sides of the same character, the cold bad-ass mf and the romantic mellow type and in the end he shows yet another side when he shows how a woman can really tear apart a man when they know his weaknesses. I can't praise this movie or Keaton's performance enough...

The Last Time was the movie of the year, period.

If Keaton gets passed up for an Oscar nomination again, I think I'm gonna need a stiff drink.

This is a quote from Bob Ringwood about Michael Keaton's build during Batman 89

"he is average height and a small-built guy..."

"...All I really did with the costume was streamline Michael’s body — instead of having him go to a gym for two years. And I think we ended up with a more interesting costume than we would have had if there had been a muscular guy underneath. We were able to exaggerate muscles and stylize them, whereas on a real body we would have had just real muscles."

It is from a new article I have posted on my site. www.batmanmovieonline.com

I wish Ringwood was working on TDK suit. I HATE this new costume designer.:o

Keaton BECAME Bruce Wayne/Batman while Bale ACTED how he thought Bruce Wayne/Batman should be portrayed im not sure if im making sense here but thats how i feel about the two performances when i judge them side by side.

You are making sense and I disagree with you, but this is a Keaton Appreciation thread, not a Bale Bashing thread. Why lower its purpose with such comments?

No Bale bashing. If you want to support Keaton, do it without unfavorable comparisons to Bale.

I stand by my comments You cant support one without comparing it to its greatest rival.

AND THATS JUST MY OPINION.

Of course you can, check this out: Keaton is uber-cool. Keaton is God. Keaton was a bad-ass Batman. See? No comparison and YET I manage to express my admiration for Keaton. And these comments were valid even before 2005, when there was no... rival.

How's this for an opinion.....leave the Bale bashing out of here...it's as simple as that.

Tell me to close my eyes and think of Batman. The first that will come into my mind is the "I'm Batman" scene. So much more convincing than Ba- CLOONEY!

The final sentence of the above post was for the purpose of lightening up the mood. Please don't ban me.

Ah, but according to Damiean Dark, Clooney is not Keaton's greatest rival! So you are free to bash Clooney, Kilmer and West all you want!
I can picture it now, Bale in his house before it became official that he was cast as Batman, twirling his tiny moustache that he had from the Machinist: "Now, how can I make all those fanboys forget about Keaton and worship me for years to come? I know... I shall become a Bat!"
