It's been far too abundant that most women of many comic book movies have been miscast, I mean really: Jessica Alba as Invisible Woman? Halle Berry as Storm? Jennifer Garner as Elektra? Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane? Kirsten Dunst as MJ? Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy?

I also disagree with Helen Slater as Supergirl, but there probably weren't many actresses around then who fit the part physically like she did.

But the way things are going, it doesn't bode well for Wonder Woman.

Aye, tis a sad state of affairs for women in comic book movies. Gina Torres of "Firefly/Serenity" would have made a better Storm than Halle Berry, Gina at least had the physical stature and a commanding presence to go with it.

At least Helen Slater was hot in a wholesome kind of way.

I don't know what they were thinking casting Alba as the Invisible Woman, Garner as Elektra, Bosworth as Lois Lane and the other two.

Be afraid for Wonder Woman. Be very afraid for Wonder Woman.

Well in some cases the characters are written differently anyway(as in the case of MJ). And I had no problem with Bryce as Gwen.

I kind of forgive Jennifer Garner for Elektra, because she was a good choice in theory.

Dunst as MJ I liked up until SM3, which was lacking on a ton of other things. I'm sure Howard would've been fine as Gwen if she'd had something to do.

The others I definitely agree with, especially Alba as Sue.

Let's all hope that WW is the one that turns this trend around.

I don't know about you guys. But for me, the worst miscasting would be Halle Berry as Catwoman.

Do not mention that here, else you will be smote by those more powerful and less kind than I.

Oh, and welcome to the Hype! Hi! :D

I'm still confused about Alba playing Sue. I mean, they couldn't find an actress that at least had blonde hair and blue eyes?

Casting females from comics is hard sometimes because there's always going to be some unrealistic expectations (physically first of all) and I guess the directors want to update them to look modern and "realstic" ( ie Mary Jane will look like someone who is a teen who only a teen would like).
Its always a difficult one...

i gotta agree...it seems like these directors half-assed the casting when it comes to the women. i know Sam Raimi said he picked Dunst because her and Tobey "clicked" but they didn't to me. their interactions felt forced imo. other than Sin City, 300, and History of Violence (all of which weren't typical comics in the first place)...i have yet to see a comic film with a female in the cast that i feel strongly for.

Rogue/Anna Paquin not being mentioned in the first (or any) post is horrifying.

Its because this is Hollywood. Female comicbook characters are just cast to look pretty.

Thats it.

I aggre with you aboutl like Dunst as MJ up until Spiderman 3. ALso I think that if BDH had given more to do as Gwen then it would have made a character more interesting.

Alba as Sue... enough said.

I agree. It seems that the directors only care if the actress looks good in the costume not that she can actually pull off the character. As someone said earlier Gina Torres from Firefly/Serenity would have been a good chice for Storm. I like Halle and all but she didnt have the commanding presence that Storn should have had in some points.

Kirsten Dunst ain't that pretty though...

...i think a lot of these actresses are cast because of their name and popularity. their popularity draws their fans to watch the movie they're starring in. not to meniton, the naive movie-goers might think that if they hear a familiar name or see a familiar face then they must be good actresses. case in point...Hally Barry, Jennifer Garner, Kirsten Dunst, Jessica Alba, Kate Bosworth.....all established stars that hadn't yet reached their full popularity until they starred in their respected comic films.

Female superheroes have yet to reach the popularity that male ones have, simple as that. We all are into the She-Hulks, Black Canaries, and what not, but the rest of the world ain't. So they have to cast A-list or flavor of the month hot females to compensate for that.

Rogue/Anna Paquin not being mentioned in the first (or any) post is horrifying.

Just because she wasn't the Southern T&A that Rogue became in the 90s (possibly earlier, not sure) doesn't mean she wasn't a good Rogue.

Rogue wasn't miscast. She was just portrayed as a much weaker character than her comic counterpart.:)

Rogue more or less took on the Jubilee/Shadowcat role.

Trying to forget about that, damn you for reminding me. But she did look good in the **** gear.

Funny you should mention She-Hulk, they shot a pilot for her potential tv series with none other than Mrs. Flavor Flav, Brigitte Neilsen. I've seen a still photo of her all green, no lie. That's when it all started, folks.

When Bryce Dallas Howard was first cast as Gwen Stacy I was like "Damn, she should have been MJ and Dunst should have been Gwen." then I saw her in the movie and was like "Wow... ok, she should have just been both."

Really? How'd she look?

no pilot was shot, just some photos taken of Brigette in the get-up.

Katie Holmes, Anna Paquin, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Bosworth, Halle Berry/CW, I disliked them all.

Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Halle Berry as Storm, Howard as Gwen Stacy, those were decent choices IMO.
