The Miscasting of female comic characters

I'd be happy with Bridget Wilson.

10 years ago maybe. "Mortal Kombat" was a long time ago.

Last time I saw her was "Love Stinks", which is roughly that same time frame. I know this b/c I saw it w/my BM, at a time when I still liked her.

Last two films I remember her in are I Know What You Did Last Summer, and House on Haunted Hill.

Last film I saw her in was a bit part in Just Visiting which was around the same timeframe as The Wedding Planner

Wow... I had not noticed this horrid trend. It comes from, in my opinion, a lack of care for female characters by filmmakers. Finding a well fleshed out female who's not THE star of the franchise is dang-near impossible, the bigger the undertaking, the more plastic they get. This means, as someone surmised, the female lead casting becomes more stunt and presentation than storytelling. Ugh.

Didn't Like
Kirsten Dunst - Not MJ-like in any way. Then she stopped being relatable to boot. Ugh. I'd suggest Lindsay Lohan if she hadn't lost her mind. Laura Prepon would've been decent.
Famke Janssen - Imho, the whole film was miscast. Jean had an odd one-dimensional combination of experience and incompetence. I would have preferred an ensemble film, with someone like Christina Hendricks.
Anna Paquin - It's been said. Plenty. Do you need a gangly teenaged Rogue? I would have enjoyed Amanda Bynes... she's not ugly, and a serious role would do her some good.
Halle Berry - Ugh. I like Halle. I do. I think she's talented, she's aight to look at. She's not Storm. Gina Torres was a great suggestion. I would have even taken Tyra as a pious stoic Storm over Halle.
Jennifer Garner - Not exotic enough, imho. Catherine ZJ would have owned this role. I wouldn't have been averted to importing someone from the European film industry.
Halle Berry again - I blame the writers for Catwoman. One good rewrite and we could have had a decent Vixen movie, which Halle was not miscast for. Ashley Judd, who dropped off of the project before Halle got on, would have been okay, I guess... but the movie would have sucked anyway.
Jessica Alba - Wow. I felt so sad for this one, cuz Jessica really is a decent actress. Charlize Therone would have been quite interesting. Michelle Pfeiffer even moreso. Though I would've preferred a younger FF with the likes of Kristen Bell much MUCH more.
Charlize Therone - Aeon Flux? Really? Just call in Kate Beckinsdale and call it a day.
Kate Bosworth - Again, a miscast film. Origin Lois she would have been GREAT. As working mother Lois with Stalker Superman... you need someone a bit wearier (and tougher looking). Try Jennifer Biel, for instance.
Katie Holmes - Even if she was an original character, she was among giants. You need a real presence, like Beckinsdale. I think it could have been interesting if they had gone a totally different direction and gotten Kelly Hu.

I liked:
Rebecca Romjin-Stamos- Mystique was great, we know this.
Michelle Pfeiffer - Catwoman was pretty cool. Not my speed, but at least consistent.
Jennifer Connelly - not as miscast as Banner. She's beautiful and she filled a simple part faithfully.
Liv Tyler - Also a decent job. Hard to get betty wrong, I guess.
Gweneth Paltrow - Good job. Period. Admittedly, I've never read comics with Pepper in them.
Uma Thurman - Again, everyone in Schumaker-world was miscast. But Uma could've owned a real Poison Ivy.

I think Singer's portrayal of the characters in X-Men were more wrong than the casting. How they used Rogue still bothers me. As for Famke, I think she did great as Jean. Halle blew as Storm, simple as that.

But GL, Amanda Bynes, Tyra? Both suck. No one knew who Hendricks was then.

I think it is more how the characters are used rather than there acting but Halle was terrible.

Halle was off, but she wasn't terrible. They needed someone with a bit more presence to play Storm. Halle is used to playing either meek and vulnerable or sexpot characters.

Prepon is a clumsy giant. Pass on Lohan too. And while I didn't care for Kirsten, the character wasn't written like comic MJ in any way. She was the typical sweet, damsel-in-distress hero's girlfriend type that many have accused Gwen Stacy of being. Also she was kind of a ho.:o

Famke Janssen - Imho, the whole film was miscast. Jean had an odd one-dimensional combination of experience and incompetence.
Agreed, but there were layers there with her attraction to Wolverine. However, that she would seriously entertain the thought of being with a guy she barely knew made Cyclops look like that much more of a *****. Which is a great shame because a lot of people seem to be under the impression that Cyclops has no personality outside of his relationship with Jean.

Anna Paquin - It's been said. Plenty. Do you need a gangly teenaged Rogue? I would have enjoyed Amanda Bynes... she's not ugly, and a serious role would do her some good
.

Bynes? Goodness no. My main problem was with the characterization. It's fine that she was vulnerable, but she had no spunk whatsoever. It's like they took all the sensitive aspects of the character and disregarded the rest.

Halle Berry - Ugh. I like Halle. I do. I think she's talented, she's aight to look at. She's not Storm. Gina Torres was a great suggestion. I would have even taken Tyra as a pious stoic Storm over Halle.
I love Gina Torres but I can't picture her as Storm. Not that she wouldn't be good, I just can't see it.

They chose a young actress and tried to age her. I don't get the point.

Katie Holmes - Even if she was an original character, she was among giants. You need a real presence, like Beckinsdale. I think it could have been interesting if they had gone a totally different direction and gotten Kelly Hu.
My only complaint is that she looked too young for the role. Katie is too cute to be playing a hardnosed assistant DA of a morally decayed city.
