Superman Returns the moral of SR story

Actually, I think we do. They are all on this board.

I've never met one person in real life who cares one bit about seeing this melodrama continue. That doesn't mean they didn't like SR, it just means they don't care.
you sure? if the sequel didn't continue the melodrama, the SR lovers would not boycott and make huge noise?

I would guess that we all tend to congregate with people of like minds and who see the world in a similar way.

I think this accounts for 'lovers' only knowing other lovers of SR and 'haters' only knowing other haters of SR.

I don't think it's as suspiscious as people might think.

I still think the most significant factor is how many people that you talk to that did not see it.

Yeah i think your right, i know quite a few people who saw it at the cinema though, and the one's who didnt, caught it on DVD.

you have no idea how many new fans love this idea and want to see it developed further.
I don't care about this. If the movie have been made without Jason the number of new fans wouldn't had been decreased. And maybe some of this new fans won't be needed.

Absolutely true. With the dissapointing B.O., the numbers certainly back up the fact that it was not widely seen. The only discussion is in groups like this. We are the only people who talk about it. Love it or hate it, we're it.

The main thing is in the real world, whether someone loved it or hated it, 99% just don't care.

Yeah, in fact it is only one member with multiple accounts who speaks about the movie. Damn him. A story like that gotta be true! :yay:

99% just don't care? :csad: how do you get that? because of sr storyline or superman isn't a popular icon anymore?

The real world has moved on, just like in the movie. Only on fan sites such as this do people endlessly analyse, dissect and speculate for months/years after a movie came out. Most 'normal' people have moved on to the next movie, or to their other priorities in life. The internet allows obsessions and passions to flourish way beyond what they are in normal life.

So did you end up seeing SR at the cinema and buying the DVD? I seem to remember you were watching an illegal download of SR and were caught out when you kept arguing that Superman had brown eyes (which you mistakenly believed from the murky quality of the bootleg copy you were watching!!!). You also have a bootleg of the Fantastic Four sequel.

I'm curious - do you go to the cinema or buy any actual DVDs, or do you and other friends in your circle watch internet bootlegs these days?

This just shows you really shouldnt assume so much, i saw SR THREE TIMES at the cinema before buying the bootleg AND bought the DVD and gave the bootleg away when i had. I also own around 200 DVD's which are bought and paid for.

I go the cinema plenty, but, my friends dont, they do buy bootlegs (though not off of the internet) mostly, because not many of them are into movies as much as me.

Doesn't that happen with every movie out there? Normal people move on and go to work?

Absolutely. With every movie. Which was the point i was making.

Now your comprehension-meter isn't working either. :woot:

i dont really know how to put it but i guess it would be something like no matter how alone you feel theyll always be someone who needs you.

yea somethin like that

you relize 200 mil does equal alot of ticket sales right? same with 391 worldwide. the b.o. was dissapointing because of its massive budget, but 200 mil is still alot of money any day. and the dvd rental numbers are pretty damn good to just to let you know.

remember buddy this is the internet. peoples opinons on the quality of movie dont really matter or kevin smiths movies would be puttin up blockbuster numbers, and snakes on a plane wouldve made 300 million.

and im glad that didnt happen because i dont want to see sequels called spiders on a suv or roaches on a raft.

Absolutely. The 'dissapointing BO' is something that you just say and repeat trying toi make you forget it still wa a lot of money and the bidget wasn't needed to be so big.

Only people dissappointed by BO were executives. Luckily no one in here is one of them.

Thanks. :)

I'd disagree wit this in the aspect that people's opinion matters a lot in a discusion forum.

that's sweet. just like richard to lois? :woot:

Smilies or not, yeah. A lot like that.
if follow the donner's storyline, superman can never be with lois. so it's better for superman to leave lois alone. maybe if there is a sequel, they should introduce a new female character who is hot and sexy; while gentle and caring. superman deserves that. :D

But following the Donner/ Jor-El mandate about Superman having a personal life means he can't have it with ANYONE. So wouldn't it just be a rehashing of the same themes over and over again?

I personally think that Singer used the same theme but different details to get Superman to the point of 'he can't be with Lois.'

Ex... the mandate is not part of the backstory for SR.

Not if the hot and sexy female character is super-powered.

Mandate not part of SR story... any proof?

Not if the hot and sexy female character is super-powered.

I think that is about Superman not putting a single person above humanity, not Superman only allowed to be with a Super powered person. It's about him focussing only on his mission and not burdened with a family that would distract him. Kind of like priests in the catholic church being married for the same reasons.

Not the first time I hear this Superman-priest conparisions.+

But as Lara said in SII, he's not forbidden to be with someone... as long as - apparently - he becomes that person's race. Supes wanna be with a human? He must become a human. Now I wonder what would happen if the female was a superheroine, the Kryptonian clause couoldn't be applied. Theoretically of course.

But well, in case he's simply forbidden to be with someone and given that this will always lead to the same theme... Jason puts some new issues on the table other than being with a couple.

And no, I admit I couldn't get your point about Kryptonian mandate not being part of SR story.

IMO a Superman with a family and other responisibilities is far more interesting than a superman without those things.

I agree. In the comics he has a family. WIfe and now apparently adopted son of Zod. In SR, he has dysfunction. No wife, and a biological child who he's not raising and who doesn't know who his real father is not a family, it is dysfunction. While it may be interesting, it's just not congruent with the Superman character.

For the record, I've always disliked the 'mandate' in the Donner films.

I just meant based on 'vague' history, unless it's actually mentioned in SR we don't know if it's applicable or not.

Do you recall it being mentioned?

My question is, if the mandate is in place and they've already been down that road, why does he try to woo her back if he knows he can't be with her?

That leads me to believe the mandate is not part of the SR 'vague' history. IF it is, then the outcome of the relationship has nowhere to go, unless they are going to rehash the same themes from SUperman II in another film.
