Homecoming The most likely outcome?

If you had to guess, what do you think will happen?

  • Sony will keep the rights and press on with S6, ASM 3, and other spin-offs

  • Sony will keep the rights and reboot the franchise

  • Sony will cut a deal with Marvel and let them reboot the character w a clean slate

  • Sony will cut a deal with Marvel and let them use Andrew Garfield in their upcoming films

What's your gut feeling? Between the two outcomes, the deal happening or not happening, what seems more likely to you, even if it's just slightly more likely.

My gut is telling me they'll make a deal, and that's what I want. I just don't wanna be let down.

I wanna believe it. It seems more likely it should happen than not, but I'm still trying to not get my hopes up. At least last time the rumors of Spidey returning for the Marvel press conference, I was more than satisfied with the plethora of news that was in its stead. Not gonna get that this time.

I'm getting to thinking that the deal is more likely with the leaks. Sony has way too much **** to deal with now.

My gut feeling is the Marvel deal will fall through.
Sony will reboot and go for the best director they can get and give that free reign to do what he wants (pretty much like WB gave Nolan on Batman Begins.
Goddard and Webb given other (lower profile) movies to direct.

Yeah maybe, but Sony's hands are really tied at the moment. Plus, there's that rumored pressure from Sony Japan to go ahead with the deal. Not getting my hopes up, but I won't be shocked if the deal happens.

IMO, simply not possible for Sony to do. Especially with Avi around.

Yeah, I seriously don't see that happening with them. Did Sam Raimi even get free reign? Probably the film he had the most control over was SM2 after turning the first film into a hit.

If what is speculated 2 happen next week happens. It will be tough for Sony 2 survive that

I think a deal is worked out and probably pretty soon. There is too much momentum for it at this point, Marvel Studios is too successful and the Sony leaks are too damaging for them. They will hammer out some co-production where Sony will get a majority percentage on Spidey solo films (60/40?) but they may also get a percentage whenever Spidey makes an appearance in a Marvel Studios production. Sony corporate is struggling and not happy with they way things are going in Sony Pictures, they are looking for something successful to attach to and this is it.

Marvel would have creative control, correct?

It is the only way any of it works. If Marvel is striking a deal to bring Spidey into the MCU then they need assurances that the character is going to progress according to their plan.

I don't see why Sony would give a **** about retaining creative control if the deal still ends with them making money.

They may get some creative input, but in the end I don't believe any Spidey-related film will be greenlit without script approval by Feige. As you say, I don't they will care too much since they will be hitching their wagon to the most successful studio going right now.

Feige has a pretty firm grip on the studio from what I've heard. I doubt he would greenlight any especially dumb suggestions Sony might make, if Sony's even in any position to make suggestions.

Give them the throwaway title "Creative Consultant" ala George Lucas for episode 7. It's a meaningless title but it makes them feel better about themselves.

Doesn't Sony have James Bond? Skyfall made them money didn't it? Spectre should too. Marvel's smart enough to make the deal appealing to Sony in some way.

I'm starting to think that's what going to happen. Hopefully they do give the director free reign and he's a fan of Spider-Man.

Sony share Bond with another company.

Its not a big suprise to me that this has happened. The Sony company has completely gone to s#!t lately so it makes sense they are bricking it over there. I just think, whatever they choose to do, it'll be a shame to lose Garfield IMO because he was one of the stronger aspects of the franchise.

They were expecting TASM2 to be this Avengers-scale box office hit, and it ended up whimpering, if not outright ****ting the bed. Plus, it seems they have no confidence in their brand. I'm saying the deal is stone cold inevitable, but I'll still be more surprised if it doesn't happen than if it does.

While if they do reboot that is all we can hope for a good director and no interfering for once.
