The Naked Fun in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

Without posting spoilers, I am conflicted about Folie a Deux.

I personally didn’t think it was a dumpster fire, but at the same time it wasn’t all that good either. There were some good ideas but ultimately I thought it was a movie full of missed opportunities.

Gaga sang her ass off though.

Hope you enjoy…the popcorn at least. :cwink:

This film is going to be gone from cinemas very soon at this rate.

Not gonna lie, that popcorn was worth the money. That was definitely my dinner tonight LOL.

Nothing wrong with these guys. Especially the fifth guy you mentioned. I hear he’s pretty cool.

Hurts my heart though that a lot of them (*cough* Jarrett, Dustin, Jericho) are those wretched MAGA people.

I watched Joker: Foolish Ducks. Non-spoiler review:

I knew to keep my expectations lower than the ground and I was still disappointed. I actually flipped off Todd Phillips's name as the credits rolled. That guy trolled us. This was boring as all hell which to me is even worse than being entertainingly bad. I personally think that the first movie would have been a big nothingburger if it wasn't for Phoenix and Hildur Guðnadóttir's score. Guess what? They were both back for this one and this actually WAS a big fat nothingburger. There were fractions of interesting ideas that ultimately went nowhere, the musical sequences were boring and uninspired (not even Gaga's vocals could save them) and it was just a chore to sit through. I guess one compliment I'll give it is that the performances were good. Nobody phoned it in from Phoenix to Gaga to the supporting players like Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener.

Is it the worst movie of the year? No, because Rebel Moon Part 2 exists but this isn't far behind them.

All I'll say is I'm really happy The Penguin is on right now for a proper Gotham fix.

As disappointing as Joker 2 was I still feel like DC fans and comic-book/superhero fans in general are still eating good right now between The Penguin and Superman & Lois. The two-hour premiere for S&L was great but I'm still sad this is going to be the last season but hopefully it ends on a high note.

As a BIG fan of this stuff, I honestly can't complain right now.

Dude I legit started busting out laughing in my taxi.

I feel your pain Drizzy. At times, it felt like one big ass music video just to push Gaga’s soundtrack. Then there were some scenes that I really did like where Joaquin tried, but I get the feeling like we were trolled.

But… that’s liiiiiiiiife :o

Music videos are supposed to look interesting though. :o

Even the sets that were used for the musical sequences were boring but I guess that's what $200 million gets you.

I’m not surprised by JJ or Rhodes. But I’m surprised that Jericho is MAGA. That just doesn’t seem to fit for a second.

I’ve listened to hours of his podcast. He comes across as open minded and progressive. It’s so weird.

There was one scene that surprised me and that was when Arthur (as Joker) started questioning Gary in the courthouse in that stereotypical southern lawyer voice that we've seen in countless movies and shows. To me, that was the only scene in either of these movies where I went, "Oh ****, that's something the actual Joker would do" but it was just a brief passing moment.

To be clear, yes, I do think that Madame Web is a worse movie. But which one would I rewatch? Easily Madame Web. :o

Unless Pepsi saves the day in Joker, I'm deducting at least a dozen points.

Exactly.

And that’s what I meant by missed opportunities, the movie could’ve touched on Arthur’s mind having fragmented into all these personalities since they talked about D.I.D, but they just gave us that one scene. Then whenever it felt like Lee would get deep, she just starts singing.

One day I have to learn how we do that blur spoiler thing.

Following up yesterday's Penguin with tonight's powerful 2-hour Superman & Lois premiere has me on such a DC TV high, y'all. Who even needs movies? :o

Then explain those lazy concert footage ones? :o

Being mentioned in the same breath as Rebel Moon is about as damning as you can get.

Man, having a producer in The Franchise talk about how "the culture" demands worse lighting on their movies, I felt the truth of that conversation.
