The Naked Fun in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

I am surprised Marvel is using Galactus as the lead villain right off the bat with the Silver Surfer storyline, given how much of that was already done in the last Tim Story FF movie. Normally Marvel shies away from that and uses a villain that hadn't been used before when they adapt a legacy character that a previous studio had control of. That is why we got Vulture as the main villain of Spider-Man Homecoming when the MCU did their solo Spider-Man movie, instead of immediately going to the Green Goblin or Doc Ock well.
The difference is Spider-man got GG and Doc Ock very right the first time around
Whereas Fox bungled the s*** out of Galactus
And given Feige's stated love for SS and Galactus, I'm not surprised he wants to try to do it right
Also on a basic level, Spider-Man has a more recognizable roster of villains than the Fantastic Four so there was less of a desire to go back to the most popular ones. In this particular case, Galactus being the villain makes sense since it gives the FF a catalyst for escaping that universe if he succeeds in destroying the planet.

Look, we have plenty!

Doom!

Okay, he's already in a movie. Who else?

Kang!

Oh. Well what else we got?

Galactus!

The FF have a lot of great villains, though their biggest one is being offloaded to the Avengers. Kang is more an Avengers villain to me anyway, and we already saw Ego offloaded to the Guardians. But even so, Galactus, Annhilus, Puppet Master, and Mole Man are all classic. I always loved Psycho-Man, but his origins would have to be completely altered cause the microverse and such would retread Quantumania. But I love the idea of a villain who manipulates emotions. You could also use cosmic entities with the FF like the Living Tribunal and such. The FF have a rich roster of threats

You make a valid point Drizzy.

Granted, the Fox acquisition had a long way to go from being finalized at that point, but I still say that if everything was how it is now, Galactus should've been teased in a post credit for Endgame. The Snap and the Blip caught his attention and all the goings on on Earth and it whet his appetite.

But we got multiverse shenanigans instead, so I guess it worked out okay. :sneeze:

Don't forget Super Skrull! :o

Underminer Mole Man and Puppet Master might be in this too since they haven't officially confirmed who Paul Walter Hauser and John Malkovich are playing yet.

Annihilus is probably a given for a future FF movie but he's pretty much the last major one that I can think of.

As for Doom, he's one of the few villains where you pretty much expect repetition. He's so inherently connected to the FF that you just kind of accept that he's going to be there all the time, like Magneto being in every X-Men movie. And even though he's not the main villain in this, we all know Robert Doomey Jr. is due for a cameo.

No one is saying they don't have a lot of good villains. It's about villains that people know. Spidey and Batman's rosters just run deeper then everyone else's in that regard.

I always assumed Mole Man woul get an Underminer style scene. That would be a lot of fun.

That was a bad trailer. The footage itself is fine for the most part. But the trailer itself felt like two smashed together and rushed.

Is that suppose to be big G at the end? If so, why the hell is he so small?

Yeah the trailer felt …off to me. Like you said the footage looks good. But the momentum of the trailer felt disjointed.

So I thought they were going to do the origin proper again. But now, not so much. That's probably for the best. A quick retelling and then into the meat of the story.

So, what're the odds that shot of the FF ship in space with Earth blowing up is actually the post credit scene of some stupid incursion happening to their world :o
Do they do the incursion here or in Doomsday? With all the X-Men folk, probably here. Which would be a wild way to end the movie. Maybe they'll think it'll get Infinity War style buzz.

Considering how The Marvels ends, I wouldn't be shocked if it's here for simplicity sake. Treat it like Thanos showing up at the end of Ragnarok and have Doomsday open right up with them in some kind of flux or whatever before we have the title card coming after they meet some X-Men.

Maybe a hot take but I've always liked that Endgame had no credits scenes and that any teases for what's coming next were baked into the movie itself. It allowed for a nice breather after a decade of buildup.

Though I will say, the fancy credits with the OG six Avengers seems less special now that RDJ and Chris Evans came back to the MCU so it's not like a Galactus tease would have cheapened that in hindsight. :o

They probably digitally removed Galactus consuming Earth like he's a drunk David Hasselhoff housing a cheeseburger from that shot.

Would Galactus consuming the planet do anything that would force the group to the 616?

I still say that the FF are not coming to the MCU in this movie and that's all happening in Secret Wars. I honestly don't see how that makes sense to do when we have a movie that's literal purpose is to reboot the universes coming in a massive crossover

You're probably right.

But I still think in Doomsday either the FF's Earth or the Foxverse is getting the incursion in real time, hence the title (besides the pun).
