decided to stay local and hit up my neighborhood AMC IMAX screen for fantastic four opening night

But when tickets go on sale for Superman, I am going on an absolute war path to get Lincoln Square IMAX tickets… I refuse to be left out in the cold on that one

Just getting caught up on some recent convos...

Saw the latest Superman trailer and loved it! I agree that the film really looks like a comic book come to life, as many Gunn films tend to, and from what I've seen so far, he seems to 'get' it. I absolutely adored how the trailer ends with recommendations of classic story arcs, such as Superman For All Seasons, All-Star Superman, and Superman: The First Superhero. Great resources for us newbs who want to bone up on our Superman lore in advance of the new film :super:

My next theatrical viewings will be Superman and Fantastic Four, quite possibly my final trips to the cinema this year. Will Gunn's film be able to supplant MAWS as my new favourite piece of Superman media? Stay tuned...

Also saw the Ironheart trailer and thought it looked just fine. Dominique Thorne was a high point of Wakanda Forever for me and I've been a fan of Anthony Ramos since In the Heights so I'll definitely be checking this one out. I intend to start working on the rest of the Marvel Disney+ shows once I finally finish the damn Marvel Netflix series so I'll get around to Ironheart sooner or later :oldrazz:

I was saddened to hear of Peter David's passing. I always enjoyed his Spider-Man work but I hadn't realized what a prolific writer he was. I really must read his legendary run on the Incredible Hulk one of these years :csad:

I recently read that Captain America: Brave New World did "very well" on digital and home media, but I just wish digital sales figures were more easily available to the public. I have the type of brain that likes to quantify stuff so a clearer picture of the bottom line would be welcome, especially after a less-than spectacular theatrical run. Apparently the film became number one on the DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD charts, though I'm not sure what that even means these days. Long gone is the era where even a middling success like Affleck's Daredevil could sell millions of DVDs on the home video market...

I recently added the following to my digital collection:

Iron Man (2008)
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Captain America: Brave New World (2025)
Venom: The Last Dance (2024)
Kraven the Hunter (2024)

All were on sale for under 10 bucks so I figured, why not? I'll continue building my collection as more titles go on sale. I didn't initially plan on buying any MCU releases because they're all readily available on Disney Plus, but then I thought I'm not much of a fan if I don't continue to support the films in the aftermarket :yay:

Interesting, didn't realize that First Steps will have select sequences in 1.43:1. The trailers make it seem like it'd only ever expand to 1.9:1 like most other films nowadays. Hope it's used well and really highlights the scale of Galactus. Surprised they haven't done a big marketing push to get people excited for that.

Marvel’s pushing this movie like WB pushed The Flash. Really trying to make it an event. I hope it works.

On one hand, I hope you get them!

On the other...I am soooooo ready to rub it in the faces of the FF suck and this will be a giant flop crowd! I will be obnoxious :o
Before you get obnoxious just remember no one here actually said it would be a giant flop. :funny: Most said it would do fine just not be a Marvel mega-hit like Deadpool & Wolverine. Get obnoxious if it does a billion.

Most of us naysayers just think it looks “meh” in quality.

I also never said it's gonna be Deadpool & Wolverine, nor do I really need it to be. Just get sequels is all I want. I aint in that whole FF vs Superman thing

But there has been lots of posts in here saying it's gonna bomb and that there wasn't a chance on a 3rd reboot it was gonna do well. Plenty of em :o

I never saw any “bomb” claims, just “disappointment” claims, which isn’t saying much considering a year ago people were declaring it an easy billion.

So this is what it's like when someone goes full FC for F4 instead.

Granted, given how the year is going, FF doing $500 million worldwide would be considered a success.

I am still not convinced any of the CBMs are going to beat Sinner's domestice, but we will see.

But who was even arguing that it was going to do Deadpool & Wolverine numbers? It doesn’t have to be that big to still be a success, and that’s more important, because some were already saying it could be Marvel’s third flop. Why expect those numbers anyway, when even Superman doesn’t look like it’s going to reach Deadpool & Wolverine-level box office? Saying Fantastic Four won’t hit those numbers feels kind of obvious, to be honest.

I never heard anyone say it needed those numbers to be a success. It doesn’t, and neither does Superman. And neither will likely hit anywhere close to those numbers. There were just some people in here expecting it to be this huge event that some others of us were doubting. That’s it.

The conversation about F4's box office has been folks bein bullish that it will break the general trend of new MCU IPs because the F4 are a big deal. I disagree with that. Do I think it will bomb? No. Do I think it will break 600m? I'm not so sure. MCU has been struggling with non-sequel features for a little while now. I definitely don't expect it to beat JW or Superman anymore.

That’s fine, all Fantastic Four needs to be is successful and a good movie, which it looks like it will be. I don’t believe Superman needs to make Deadpool & Wolverine numbers either. I’m just saying if Superman seems unlikely to do that, I definitely wouldn’t expect Fantastic Four to. I think Fantastic Four will be successful and do pretty well overall, since it looks like it’s shaping up to be a really good film. It definitely doesn’t look “meh” by any stretch of the imagination, at least in my opinion. But of course, we’ll have to wait and see how it performs. Either way, I’m seeing both Superman and Fantastic Four day one.
