Just getting caught up on some recent convos...
Saw the latest
Superman trailer and loved it! I agree that the film really looks like a comic book come to life, as many Gunn films tend to, and from what I've seen so far, he seems to 'get' it. I absolutely adored how the trailer ends with recommendations of classic story arcs, such as
Superman For All Seasons,
All-Star Superman, and
Superman: The First Superhero. Great resources for us newbs who want to bone up on our Superman lore in advance of the new film
My next theatrical viewings will be
Superman and
Fantastic Four, quite possibly my final trips to the cinema this year. Will Gunn's film be able to supplant
MAWS as my new favourite piece of Superman media? Stay tuned...
Also saw the
Ironheart trailer and thought it looked just fine. Dominique Thorne was a high point of
Wakanda Forever for me and I've been a fan of Anthony Ramos since
In the Heights so I'll definitely be checking this one out. I intend to start working on the rest of the Marvel Disney+ shows once I finally finish the damn Marvel Netflix series so I'll get around to
Ironheart sooner or later
I was saddened to hear of Peter David's passing. I always enjoyed his
Spider-Man work but I hadn't realized what a prolific writer he was. I really must read his legendary run on the
Incredible Hulk one of these years
I recently read that
Captain America: Brave New World did "very well" on digital and home media, but I just wish digital sales figures were more easily available to the public. I have the type of brain that likes to quantify stuff so a clearer picture of the bottom line would be welcome, especially after a less-than spectacular theatrical run. Apparently the film became number one on the DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD charts, though I'm not sure what that even means these days. Long gone is the era where even a middling success like Affleck's
Daredevil could sell millions of DVDs on the home video market...
I recently added the following to my digital collection:
Iron Man (2008)
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Captain America: Brave New World (2025)
Venom: The Last Dance (2024)
Kraven the Hunter (2024)
All were on sale for under 10 bucks so I figured, why not? I'll continue building my collection as more titles go on sale. I didn't initially plan on buying any MCU releases because they're all readily available on Disney Plus, but then I thought I'm not much of a fan if I don't continue to support the films in the aftermarket
