The Thunderbolts were suppose to be the new GOTG.

I dont really agree with that. The Thunderbolts are closer to that Avengers stratosphere. They interact with the Avengers characters, Val, and the stuff going on in the A plot. The GOTG were our window into the cosmic along with Thor, and that's going to become the FF now. At least, as long as it all goes to plan, and hopefully the box office ticketing is a sign that it is

I'm not concerned about them, I'm concerned about the family that got hit by Cosmic Rays. :o
We're gonna have to pull FC off you come July 26th:

They were entirely GotG coded, down to being quirky losers and found family. They even did similar quirky advertising for them. F4 is being treated far more prestige. Which was never what the GotG were.

As for the F4's literal place in the universe. It's likely they're living on 616 earth come their sequel. If they get one.

How would you improve it? I'm kinda thinking they'd have been better off ditching the hair, even if it's inaccurate to Shalla Bal Surfer in the comics. At least it would have been less taxing on the VFX artists.
I've said before you need less detail. What makes the Surfer as a design work is it's basically the starting position of a doll. There should be as little specific details as could be because once you start adding mini details with the color scheme you now start to highlight the uncanny valley nature of it.

They were using a lot of terms like "assemble" and such for Thunderbolts, and Yelena and Bucky are both directly adjacent to 2 prominent Avengers characters. So I don't think it's a good comparison. Yeah, they're a group of losers and such, but the FF are a literal family and that was the foundation of what the GOTG films were built around. Being a family of choice. As for the FF being treated with more prestige in the marketing than the GOTG, yes that I would agree with. But they're still not the Avengers. There is a reason Doctor Doom is an Avengers movie and not a FF one. Much to my anger. The Avengers brand will always be given priority A and the most prominence

I mean, I have a strong concern about both movies based on the demo info we got from Thunderbolts and Cap 4. Will Superman and FF be able to recapture the youth demographic? I don't know. I think 2023 was a deadly blow to young people being interested in CBMs. And I think the genre is fragile enough that you are dismissing the smaller movies that can absolutely take vital chunks out of them.

That’s fine, I guess I just see it differently. While the MCU has had struggles with some non sequels, Shang Chi made $432 million during COVID times, so I expect Fantastic Four will clear $600 million. And then some. As long as the film is good, it has enough going for it to reach those numbers. I don’t think the non sequel struggles really matter for Fantastic Four in this case.
Eternals bombed literally two months after Shang-Chi, so I think having any kind of base level expectation that any MCU movie will easily cross $500M is dangerous faith.

Really the only thing that seems to guarantee that is the promise of nostalgia.

That is exactly what Thunderbolts are. Not kind of. Literally.

I'm not saying F4 are the Avengers. I'm saying they're not the new GotG. That's Thunderbolts. Or at least they were suppose to be, and then their movie sadly failed.

I just want to know where all this confidence in a Feige-less James Gunn is coming from? I mean check his non-Disney track record.

Do you really think his Supes has the upperhand in this? And if so why?

I do wish Thunderbolts performed better, on that we agree. But I still think the FF being the GOTG is still closer. In the end, we can disagree on this, but the point being is the FF are not an Avengers replacement. Therefore the MCU is not "depending" on their success. The MCU lives and dies on the strength of the Avengers brand. So the litmus test for that brand is coming in Doomsday. The FF are just a potential good option for another franchise they can build around separate from the Avengers, ala the GOTG or Doctor Strange (though yes, he has walked with the Avengers, he still is like the only mystic dude we got....so he has a monopoly on his little corner).

That's one area where I do think Superman and FF are different. Superman is a lot more central and important to the broader DC than the FF are.

Superman is going to hit. That last trailer had heat on it and you could feel it penetrated the social zeitgeist.

Fantastic Four... I dont know. I'M hyped for but i dont think any of the trailers thus far have had that...mic drop wow moment that screams "GO SEE THIS." The movie could be hiding a ton and it probably is but i dont think its yet gotten the attention of the layman who are skeptical because of the prior iterations.

And the reverse is exactly how I feel about Supes, because I felt NO GOD in those trailers. The film has superb casting and very vibrant colors, but that's all.

Seeing the FF's trailer in IMAX and the feelings of family and the emotion and the chemistry between the cast in these trailers and promos and BTS bits, and then GALACTUS. It does feel like an event (or atleast to me).

I don't have much faith in Gunn to make a movie I love. That's different then how well their marketing campaign has gone. They're selling it far better then F4. Which has gone pretty poorly after Thunderbolts had a similar meh campaign.

The trailer view differences are vast. It's not everything but it is something. Krypto is a master stroke for the little ones.

The MCU is depending on ****ty nostalgia before trying to jangle the shiny keys of the X-Men in people's face. Zod, the MCU is so over.

Gotta remember a lot of those Snyder Cult people are also hate watching in droves, but I hear you.

You know me, the nostalgia bait isn't my favorite thing, so not arguing in favor of it lol

Sorry, I'm just so annoyed by how this has all played out. I expected the OG Avengers back, but...

Matrix+-+Not+Like+This.gif

Disney Channel brought back Elektra and are now running to the old ass X-Men lol they have no shame in the nostalgia department
