yeah...i could forgive a lot of the mistakes that were made if they had just kept Goku a wild child. i still wouldn't have bought Chatwin as Goku, but at least all the fundamentals of Goku's story would've been intact.

i haven't seen him act, but he's infinitely closer to my visual of a young Goku than Chatwin. when they announced that Chatwin was playing Goku my first thought was "please be a rumor!!! please be a rumor!!!!" when i found out that it was official i knew to lower my expectations drastically.

I havent seen Jon Foo act either, I watched him in the Protector, but he didnt do any talking, just fighting. I figured it would have looked more authentic to cast a martial artist in the role of Goku, Foo's demo reels are amazing.

off-topic: one of the biggest special effects and 3d forums, cgtalk.com, hasn't even commented on the trailer. the last time someone made a comment in a thread about this movie was back in June. looks like this movie has fallen off the radar with the effects community.

well duh ofourse it has fallen off the radar. Fox took long time to bring the trailer and still doesn't feel polished and hardly has any hand to hand combat. I won't watch the next trailer at all but will look at everyone's response.

Its true, but saying that talking animals will make the movie better its stupid. And fans alone wont make this movie a box office success. The people in that forum think the world moves around them, I mean, they are so closed up in their own worlds they think they are right and their way of thinking is the correct one. They apparently dont know that WE NEED the general audiences to make this film a box office success so sequels can be made.

If this movie was made 100% faithful, then it would flop despite DB having millions of fans worldwide. But it would still flop because fans alone cant make a movie become a box office success, you need the general audience too.

These guys are so close minded that they dont know they sound stupid when they claim that talking animals would make this movie better. Hell, they are bashing Piccolo just because he doesnt have antennaes. Antenaes look dumb as hell guys, dont you know that?. most of the people on that forum know FAR more about movies, visuals, and special effects than most of the people on THESE forums. i'm not saying "******ed" people don't visit that forum, but if the people on that forum are ******ed then the people on this forum would be brainless. this forum is a forum that consists of a bunch of comic and movie geeks while that forum consists of 3d and 2d artists, many of whom work in the field. i'm sorry you don't like the opinions of professional artists, but that doesn't mean you have to call them ******ed.

Neverending Story and the Chronicles of Narnia are great examples of how to pull off talking animals in a fantasy world. the only reasons for not including talking animals, or at least otherworldly creatures, are either lack of budget (didn't stop Hellboy 2), lack of time, or lack of imagination....all of which are symptoms that this movie displays.

so...if they made a more faithful, more emmersive, more dynamic Dragon Ball movie that were made in Beowulf quality CG or better you wouldn't see it in theaters even with the potential that it could be viewed in stereoscopic 3D? yet you'll watch this rushed, half-assed exploitation? me tinks someone's in denial.

yeah, i love Speed Racer so i don't agree that it was unfaithful. that's not the reason it flopped. the reason it flopped was because of the bad timing of the release date and because America still isn't ready for a live action anime.

You're ridiculing those forum members because they are voicing their opinions about the film, yet you are blatantly stating that Piccolo with regular antennae would look stupid and talking animals look stupid. That's your opinion, of course fans cant make the movie better, but then again films like Spider-Man, X-Men and the rest of those Marvel and DC characters have fan bases spanning about 30 years, DB on the other hand has been out since the 80's. IMO adding talking animals would have helped to create unique world for DB instead of just your average "futuristic city" But like I said earlier, everyone has their own vision. I see the dragonball cartoon as being rather unique compared to other anime out there, therefore the film should reflect the cartoon as far as being unique. The first strike against DB was being picked up by Fox, the second one was hiring a director that isn't to credible, third the lackluster casting. There are many things that can be pointed out about the film. This movie will draw in fans and fans can also draw in newcomers, im pretty sure that there are people out there who may have never watched DB but know someone who does, so if the situation arises and they are skeptical on seeing the movie, they would consult to a fan of the series to see if it's worth watching. Maybe a 2/4 of the moviegoers will be newcomers to DB.
