Comics The New Avengers Thread

Yup. He's back, and vying for the mantle of Kingpin. :word:

Really? Thats even better. I loved his mini and when he vanished after it I always thought they should go back to him...great character. I'm glad to see him trying to make it in the big leagues!

He also appeared in the Beyond mini series recently. he was GREAT in that.

Gah! really?!

...I've been out of the comic loop as of recently, it seems.

Definitely dug the latest issue. I'm really getting into Yu's artwork now. It just seems like it needed to grow on me. And I loved that part where Strange revealed their true selves. It really helped explain the cover to me after I read it, heh.

And Dr. Strange is the pimp daddy and it's REALLY nice to see Bendis follow up on Vaughn's Dr. Strange mini. Maybe it's an indication that Vaughn will do another. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! :woot:

Latest issue has The Hood unifying the super-villain underworld. No Spidey this issue, but it's worth the $2.99 just to see The Hood deliver a violent beating to a long time Marvel character and member of Avengers: The Initiative (im not gonna say which...buy the book :ninja: ), just to show the other villains he means business....

Moving nicely along.

Hmmmm  ....nahhh....probably Flash

I dont think it's nescessarily Ben Reilly, but i wouldnt put it past Stark one bit to have cloned Peter...i mean, Stark had no problem cloning Thor...

Well theyre saying it'll be a perfect jumping on point for new readers, so... wouldn't Ben Reilly just complicate things? I dont think its him, adding clones into the mix would just confuse new readers wouldnt it?

Anyone get this week's issue? #37?

Great fight with The Hood's gang (excellent battle plan by the NA, who are severely out-numbered and out-gunned)....and Peter finally makes Wolverine laugh. :woot:

VEry exciting issue. :word:

This was just the warm up. I'm looking forward to the real battle between the NA and the Hood in next month's Annual. :woot:

I thought it was a good issue but i have two big complaints: 1) Yu's artwork is awful, i cant take it anymore, on some pages it looks like he's not even trying, seriously. 2) I've said it before and I'll say it again, I dont like the way Bendis writes Spider-man. I know that spidey's supposed to be a joking, fun loving character but the way bendis writes him he sounds too much like a kid or like his ultimate universe counterpart. Throughout the whole new avengers run, i dont think spidey's ever said anything serious or insightful. Spidey hasnt even acted this immature when he was in the Ditko/Stan Lee days.

Im with you on the art; way too sketchy.

This would have been a better issue if Yu's art didn't bring it down so much. Usually I'm okay with his art, but this issue just wasn't doing it for me. Also, Bendis dialogue is kind of weird this ish. Dude!

Anybody read #49?

GREAT ISSUE!

As usual, not too much Spidey-action to be had per se, but this Dark Reign thing is kicking off to be an extremely exciting time for Norman Osborn fans.
It's been great so far watching him rise to power in Dark Avengers and Thunderbolts, but this issue we get the team's reaction to NORMAN'S new team, and i cannot WAIT for next issue! :word:

Haha. I loved Spidey's reaction...

''Wait...what?"

-someone says something-

''Wait...what?"

That's the thing about Marvel's "Big Time" events. Most of the time they don't live up to the hype. However, the fallout from these events is always great. Secret Invasion is just another example of this. Now I thought the event was solid, not Amazing or anything, but solid. Started out on such a high note, but got worse and worse after each issue. All action, no substance.

That being said, New Avengers has really benefited from that event. This title has been amazing lately. Bendis has got a nice flow going on with the title and issue 49 was just another example of that. Luke and Jessica are Marvels number 1 couple lol. Heh ok, maybe not, but Bendis writes one hell of a luke cage. Spider-man on the other hand is still MIA. Bendis can't write his character at all in the 616 universe. Maybe thats why I've enjoyed New Avengers so much lately. There has been very little Spider-man. Weird to hear myself saying that since he's my favorite character but Bendis just doesn't know how to handle him.

I respectfully disagree, I think Spidey is one of the characters Bendis doesn't seem to have trouble with. But whatever, this was a great issue, the title seems to be on a good track right now, too bad I read about a lot of people dropping it after SI, their loss.

I gotta say I didn't see [BLACKOUT]Cage turning on Osborn (so soon) but it was handled well and I like how he smashed up Venom and Bullseye with that crow bar.[/BLACKOUT]

Can't wait to see NA vs. DA, though the NA certainly seem over matched.

Honestly, your the first person to say that Bendis doesn't have problems writing Spider-man in NA. The character is so childish, immature, stupid and just flat out annoying at times. When was the last time Spider-man used his smarts in NA? Has he actually done anything of relevance in the title since it started? Bendis is my favorite writer, but sometimes certain writers just can't handle specific characters. For Bendis, 616 Spider-man is one of those characters.

Yeah, at this point im still reading NA for my Luke Cage fix, and to see what happens with Norman...Spidey's appearances just seem to be for comedic relief, which is fine and all, but not anything really significant.

I think the only reason bendis writes spiderman like that is because he's trying to force comedic relief on the team. Every team needs that one character that lightens the mood all the time, and of all the characters on NA, spidey's the one to do it. i agree that bendis makes spidey too childish and juvenile but i think Bendis purposely does that otherwise the team would have a very dark mood in general. Just my two cents.

I've gotten tired of bendis showing us how awesome luke cage is every fifteen minutes. His luke cage is just so invincible and annoying I'm really starting to dislike the character. Word? Word.

I personally think Luke Cage is one of Bendis' best accomplishments. He used to be sucha joke and Bendis was able to revamp him and turn him into a badass A lister.
