Yeah how is that a win? On a 140-180 mill budget before marketing how is a sub 50 mill weekend take a win unless youre thinking "well at least it wasnt 30 mill"

Anyway, I still think this will make over 50 mill
I think it's a win compared to what was this looking for a week ago, under $40M OW

i bet it doesnt get past 200 million overall, its gonna get destroyed next week by Star Trek, Ice Age and Lights Out.

You are going to the wrong theaters then. That stuff happens around here often enough that I didn't even stop to consider that it doesn't happen elsewhere.

In my 50+ years of going to theaters in several states to see all types/genres of movies....I have NEVER had the theater crowd give a movie a standing ovation....I have NEVER had the theater crowd give the screen resounding boos....I have NEVER had a complete stranger tell me how much he hates that the movie playing is a remake that ruins his childhood....I have NEVER seen a large group of the audience walk out in disgust. I have over my decades of going to the theater gone to see movies that are record breaking landmark films and little indie films almost no one has heard of....I have seen GAHDHI and PINK FLAMINGOS at the theater (in other words, I have seen quite the variety of films).....and I have not seen what you describe happening.

Like I said, this might be regional, but it happens enough that I didn't think it was unheard of. Then again, I go to a lot of local premiers, screenings and events organized by the local geek/nerd/cinephile clubs and organizations. I tend to wait in line for hours and meet people in those lines and we have little else to do but talk about movies and make single serving friends.

Eh... I've never heard louf boos, and I have never heard loud talk about likes or dislikes but I for sure have been in theaters during early runs of films and had the crowd applause, some for films many here would not believe actually had applause for them.

And not very many things are getting to $200 this summer. Hell, a lot of the "sure things" are barely going to get past $100 mil. It is entirely possible that the legs on Ghostbusters can save it.

This isn't some $200 mil tentpole here.

I decided to see Pets today instead of this. Gonna probably wait on this for quite a while like I have for XMen and TMNT.

I actually enjoyed the film and laughed my butt off at parts of it, but yeah the plot is pretty weak compared to the original. The 4 leads make the film enjoyable and Chris Hemsworth is hilarious.

I totally get the rotten audience score on RT. The film just leans way too much on the original to prop it up when I think some of the brightest moments are from where it differs from the original.

Clearly the film makers intended this to be more of a tribute film than a remake, with cameo's from most of the surviving cast, sans Rick Moranis who declined to make an appearance.

One thing that did bother me was the Batman Begins type explanation of how they get everything, like the GB logo, their uniforms, etc. Totally unessesary.

There's a dance number that appears in the credits that you expect to happen in the film. Totally wasted moment there, because it was hilarious.

Overall I'd give it a B-/C+ and hope it does well enough to spur the sequel teased in the after credit scene.

I didn't say I've never heard applause....said I never saw a standing ovation by the theater audience.

You mean 200 mill overall domestic or by overall worldwide.

Domestic for sure I doubt this will get there, but ww it will for sure

Worldwide, and maybe, but The Conjuring 2, to use as an example, has great reviews and its at 297 million ww, and since this has a huge backlash i kinda doubt it, but we'll see.

Ghost balls = flames on optimus

BTW, why isn't there a "GHOSTBUSTERS - WHAT DID YOU THINK?" article on the front page? :awesome::funny:

There were no balls...just a flat, cloth textured area between the legs that they aimed at to get Rowan to let go of a building.

So wait. The final battle they actually defeat the ghost by shooting it in the balls?

Yes. Does it have balls? No. But by comments of the characters, you know it's meant to be implied that way.

Just. Wow haha.

One of the things that made it lose points in my book, cringe worthy moments, but even with that closer to an 8 because it's balanced out. (or 2- 2 1/2 / 4 if you don't count direct to Dvd/streaming).

He is towering over them and holding on to a building to keep from getting sucked back through the portal. They aim up and center mass...which happens to be his crotch region. Yes, they make mention of that being the intended target...but it's not in an Idiocracy "Ouch my balls" kind of way.

That still seems a little ehhh to me but whatever.

Paul Feig said this film needs to make 500 million ww to make back its budget back that ain't happening without China and with only a 50 million dollar ow domestically :funny:

I'm curious about how people would be reacting to this movie if the original didn't exist.
