The New Ghostbusters - Part 10

Yes really. I repeat: the claim that they would commission a sequel to a movie regardless of audiences' reception to it is pure hubris.

Yup.

They have to say that, otherwise it's indirectly admitting failure.

They sure want to milk the franchise, but a direct sequel is probably the worst way to go. I feel the brand has been damaged actually after this installment, I don't think many people are looking forward to a new adventure from this team.

I would agree with this. This film would have had so much more goodwill behind it if Sony just kept continuity. I fear what their next choice would be.

I'd probably look into TV. A live action show with a modest budget could recapture the spirit of the original. You could have more fun with characters and stories without the need for tentpole spectacle.

They may just adapt the IDW comics, which is what should've been done to be honest. Continuity was there, and you had a mostly female team that took over for a while anyway.

I saw it Tuesday, thought it was alright. To be honest, I probably laughed more frequently at the reboot than I did the original. I wasn't crazy about Rowan though and his plan was maybe a little overly complicated but I guess was meant to follow the original's concept of a human building something to open a gateway between worlds.

In the wake of this, I'm curious to see how Sony's next female led reboot Charlie's Angels fares.

I finally put my money where my mouth is and saw this.

It was okay. I laughed. The action was cool. I especially enjoyed the tech evolution and McKinnon was the best one(but not enough that she should take the lead).

I will say though, the ending with Abby and Erin would have been better with more character development.

I think the worst part of the movie was the fact none of it felt inspired by Ghostbusters. Just a mash-up of visuals from other movies. This could just as easily been a reboot of that Evolution movie from the 90s and not changed a thing.

Hey everyone, go check out the Nostalgia Critic's review of Ghostbusters 2016. Its really funny.

I'm thinking better. If good, I see that film making a lot of money.

why female, it's time for male led Charlie's Angels :woot: and we need female director who is fond of ruining female childhoods

Easy bake ovens and jewelry?

GB 2016 has grossed 162m in 20 days so far and it is abysmal. What truly baffles me is the 51m it has grossed in foreign markets where I thought it might do better. So where does it rank among the spectacular BO failures of all time?

So after watching the original on Sunday night, I tried once again to force my way through this this evening. I just can't do it. Its awful. I get about half way through and lose interest.

I will say this...It totally wastes McKinnon. I don't know what the writers were going for. Egon may be a bit eccentric, but at least he is an actual and well developed character who behaves like a human being. McKinnon does absolutely nothing but mug for the camera. Its shameless. Its really pitiful considering McKinnon is the second most talented member of the cast (and the most talented is clearly bored and phoning it in as a favor to Feig and McCarthy).

51 million overseas is abysmal. Not sure how they could continue the franchise in its current incarnation with these sort of numbers.

Here's a list of the top 100 box office bombs, hasn't cracked it yet but all the data may not be out for the film.

There will be articles on losses at the box office at the end of the summer when they have concrete numbers.

Didn't think Evan Almighty was such a bomb. It had a $175 million production budget and when adjusting for inflation the loss is $100 million.

Zyzzyx Road should be on that list.

She's funny on SNL but has she really been in anything other than that? Maybe she just can't act outside of a 3-5 minute skit?

You know, I'd swear Evolution started out as GB3 before they decided to make it its own thing.
