But then it would be called "The Ghostbusters rip off (with women depending on who's criticizing)" anyway at this stage. You really can't win here. In an era where brand recognition is king, this was the only way to go.
I understand the argument. I just haven't seen a lot of examples of it actually working in practice. We've seen it fail again and again. Red Dawn, Total Recall, Point Break, Robocop, Terminator Genisys, Fantastic Four, The Lone Ranger, etc. Brand recognition did absolutely nothing to help those films.
EDIT: It carries over to TV too. Minority Report was arguably the biggest flop of the year.
EDIT: Even Mad Max: Fury Road, which was one of the best movies of the year, didn't do as well at the box office that it should have given its quality.
