The reality is we'll never know what the percentages are of people who are complaining simply because it's all women, I suspect it's not as high as some may be alluding to because there are problems throughout the trailer which are being criticised just as vocally. What matters at present is Sony have a film on their hands that has pissed off an awful lot of people for a variety of reasons. I can only imagine there are crisis meetings being held as we speak.

Anyway after watching it again for the 5th time and the ones for gb and gb2 I finally figured out what bothered me. The ghosts have no weight, they're just seem so bright and colourful, and don't seem to be there.

It's just another cgi vs practical debate it seems. Yeah they have had people on set in motion capture suits but with today's tech why not a puppet with cgi touches. I'm still open to the film but the more I see of this trailer the more I feel the humour style is going to put me off, and stuff like gremlins, Elvira and Young Frankenstein are my favourite comedy's so it's not like I'm apposed to daft slapstick mixed in to films

When the film is using their female cast as a stunt to garner attention, then I don't think there should be complaints if the filmmakers receive backlash for it. Just my two cents.

I honestly don't mind the idea of some funny women like Kirsten Wiig and Melissa McCarthy being in a Ghostbusters movie as some of the main characters ... But I think it's a disservice to their talent to make their private parts the "draw" or the "backbone" of the movie, like the media has been advertising. And I also think it's insulting to the audience to say stuff like "If you don't like it, you're sexist. Now go see the movie, you pigs."

Like I said, I do really like Paul Feig. I thought that Bridesmaids and Spy were hilarious. This project just looks ... I don't know ... Beneath everyone. I'm flabbergasted that someone thought this was a good idea.

Who knows, maybe the trailers are grossly misleading and this movie may turn out decent or good. Still the advertising's fault, though.

Also, SJW's are doing their most in reaction to this trailer. They spent months calling people bigots if they weren't interested in the movie ... And NOW they're calling the movie racist because of the African American character.

Never change, SJWs.

I honestly liked what I saw in the trailer.
It dosn't look amazing but it looks entertaining enough to watch.

The amount of negativity being directed at it is pretty funny to me though for some reason.
I've never seen a movie get that many dislikes on youtube so quickly.

It doesn't seem like that's the case though. It's an all-female cast because Paul Feig likes to work with these actresses and his previous successes have come from those collaborations.

It's a stunt. You can continue on convincing yourself otherwise, but all you have to do is look at the recipe. You think it's by accident they went 3 white women and 1 African American?

This is what I hate about Hollywood. Why not 2 men 2 women? They're biting the original concept and trying to substitute some hot female comedian names who if by any indication by the trailer - do not have a shred of chemistry and look like Helen Keller acting with CGI.

According to Paul Feig, the reason the trailer mentions the old movies is because they tested several different trailers, and the one(s) with the mention tested better than the one(s) without.

Is it just that it was a better trailer or did the mention of the originals just soften people up

They really shouldn't have gone for More horror with some comedy rather then what we got, goofy jokes with hints of horror

None of them really made me laugh but they weren't as bad as people are making them out to be.

The only one that really bothered me is "That's gonna leave a mark" and it's only because I have a problem with hearing that dusty old line for the millionth time in another movie.

The whole movie screams "gimmick" when it comes to the female cast. And it's really lame.

This is what I hate about Hollywood. Why not 2 men 2 women? They're biting the original concept and trying to substitute some hot female comedian names who if by any indication by the trailer - do not have a shred of chemistry and look like Helen Keller acting with CGI.

I don't mind an all female-led cast ... Just don't make the genders the primary focus of the movie.

I remember reading years ago that one of Dan Aykroyd's ideas for Ghostbusters III was for it to be a "passing of the torch" kind of movie, where the old guys train the new group. Perhaps if they had gone with this idea, I bet the reaction wouldn't be as negative.

This new movie comes across as "The Girl Version" of Ghostbusters rather than a movie of its own, or a movie that cares about respecting the previous material. It's so stupid ...

That was one of the few times I watched a trailer, hated it, but thought the movie would be great. First off, the movie looks absolutely stunning. It's rich, vibrant, and it's kinetic. Just that tracking shot of ECTO-1 had me. The car looks gorgeous. I was a little annoyed that they pushed the nostalgia button in the trailer by actually envoking the first film. I mean, it totally worked, which is why it pissed me off. I don't mind all the similarities, but don't tug on the heartstrings of a beloved classic just to pimp that it's being remade. I'm still jacked at this point to see the new one, though. Paul's last two films surprised me with their quality, and he does a good job of really injecting heart into them. Kate McKinnon is going to breakout with this movie. She's looking like she's really crafted a classic character, whereas the others just seem like they're playing themselves at this point.

Ghostbusters is a different beast though, it's loved far more than any other those other franchises. I hate to say it but I'm somewhat in agreement with phillyboy, the lack of originality in Hollywood is a big issue and maybe a big sacrifice is needed in order to start to change things. No-one would have had a problem if this were an original all-female ghost hunters movie, but because it's leaching off the back of one of the most iconic movie brands it's automatically pissing people off.

Agreed. Die Hard & all of its copycats are a good example of how things used to be done. Were they 100% original? Of course not. But they had their own stories they didn't rely on the Die Hard name to sell tickets. I loved Under Siege (still do)- it was similar to Die Hard, but there was more than enough going on for it to be its own movie.

There's no reason this couldn't be its own ghost hunting movie. Yeah, it would still get compared to GB, but if the writers did their job, it would be able to stand on its own.

There are absolutely no surprises to be had with this, we know all the beats- encounter first ghost, form a team, build proton packs, reveal octo 1, etc. imagine if was a whole new world- new gadgets, no uniforms (or maybe no uniforms), etc. So many possibilities. But instead, they've bought into an existing franchise with everything set up for them. Lazy movie making.

To put this in perspective, I like the original Ghostbusters all right, but I'm not a huge fan or anything (I did enjoy it more when I was a kid). I was pretty neutral on the trailer. The ghosts do look really good, and I like McKinnon's quirky vibe, but I could have done without the slapping the devil out of her part. When you have obvious, loud comedy in a trailer that isn't funny, it doesn't leave the best impression.

I agree, that last bit should have been cut.

They need more McKinnon and less of Jones yelling in the next trailer as well as some more horror vibes. Not just zany comedy all the way through.

If you're going to mirror a work of comic genius like Ghostbusters, you had better make darn sure your work lives up to it. There was more behind its success than gross-out humor and special effects.

Still not sure why this had to be Ghostbusters and could not have been a completely unrelated paranormal comedy about ghost investigators. If there's no connection beyond the terminology and the equipment, then change those and come up with something that doesn't invite unwelcome comparisons. Unless those involved were on the same level as the people who made the first movie, they were always going to lose.
