The New Ghostbusters - Part 6

And I feel very vindicated in knowing that it is loosely connected to the original films, within the first seconds of the trailer.

Only in the trailer. The events of the originals did not occur in the world of the new movie.

The "screaming black woman" stuff is boring. I feel like I've seen the stuff at the end a hundred times before.

She's basically the woman shouting at the big screen during a horror film telling people not to open the door.

Was the music a new version? I thought it might be the Kill Paris remix, but it isn't. They are very similar, but wouldn't mind downloading the trailer version if anyone knows where I can find it.

Sure it didn't.
I swear on my father's fresh grave, that unless they refilm a majority of the movie there is no way, other than a multiverse angle added after the fact for the events of the original to connect to the reboot/remake. The story relies on the creation of the Ghostbusters as a wholly unique and new thing. The technology is invented by Holtzman in the story. They never make mention of any of the events of the originals. No one even hints at them having occurred.

I mainly lurk in here...was never big on the is it part of or not convo...wasn't thrilled with the news the last so many months, but the trailer has me totally on board! Expectations met and overwhelmingly exceeded!

side note, I wish I still had all my toys from the original cartoon.

I like the 30 Years Ago thing...sort of meta. It's not so much false marketing as it is ambiguous marketing, which I think is kind of clever. Most people aren't going to go see this based on whether or not its connected to the original films anyway. Really like the piano strains of the old theme.

I don't hate this. I thought it was fairly entertaining as trailers go. It's not a great trailer, to be sure. It's not an awful one either, and there's enough in it that's unique to make it more than just mediocre.

Tonally, this looks to be a combination of Ghostbusters and The Real Ghostbusters. At this point in the concept's life cycle, that was probably the way to go, and the way many of the comics have gone as well, to fantastic effect.

I don't think this is going to be devoid of story anymore than the original film was. This is clearly an action-centric trailer. And visually this looks pretty cool, in a sort of throwback effects kind of way. I like the scope of the ghosts so far. Always nice to see Slimer.

I love the technology in this. Is that a version of Louis Tully's brainwave "helmet" that McCarthy has on in one shot? McKinnon's character looks like she will be a lot of fun.

Humorwise, there were some funny bits. Ghostbusters was never laugh out loud funny to me, but there are some good chuckles here.

People are complaining about the content of the trailer. Watch the original Ghostbusters trailer. Short of introducing Ecto 1 and the various ethreal/ghostbusting concepts, which will NEVER be "new" again, and therefore will likely never have that type of "Wow, that's new" impact, there's a lot of the same approach, albeit a tonal difference.

-There are ghosts.
-Bill Murray loudly asks "Has anyone seen a ghost?"
-The Ghostbusters are shown screwing up a few times.
-Bill Murray yells about dogs and cats living together.
-There's a lot of screaming.
-There's a little bit about the story, but not much.

All things considered, the original trailer, with the exception of the end of the movie, basically shows the Ghostbusters being goofballs, shows fairly little about their personalities, shows some action beats, and sells Sigourney Weaver with sex. This trailer does much the same thing. Other than tone of the humor and the more heightened elements, there's not a huge difference in presentation here.

The whole "This doesn't look like the Ghostbusters I know" that people keep saying as if it's a new and interesting complaint...the film's creators have been telling you that from Day One. This isn't the Ghostbusters as they were conceived in the 80's, that's...fairly obvious. This is 2016, and it is the Ghostbusters viewed through that cultural lens.

I'm not even going to get into the "I don't find these ladies funny" complaint. Fair enough. You think no one was tired of Murray and Akroyd's schtick in the early 80's? That didn't stop general audiences from eating up that movie then and I doubt it will stop this one now. These are some incredibly popular comedic actresses.

Finally, I know we're fanboys, but could some of you stop pretending you know exactly what does nor doesn't happen in a film and whether it does or doesn't connect to the other movies or ever will based on a single trailer? You can't possibly know exactly what does and doesn't happen based on a trailer and some rumors, unless you've seen the film and watched the franchise unfold, which I suspect most of you haven't. Even if this film doesn't connect, there are ways to make it connect later on if the studio chooses to do so.

My favorite part is how these really well said positive comments are just getting ignored/lost in the mountain of everyone saying the exact same thing. Read this

There he is - Mr. Contrarian! I figured you'd be by at some point to battle so-called "fanboys".

I had an open-mind, but that wasn't awful. That was beyond awful. That was worse than I could have ever expected.

Sony, it's not too late, cancel this disgraceful piece of trash before it's released. Please, I beg of you.

Yikes, the dislike count on Youtube is up to 53,000. I've never seen a trailer get such a negative response before.

Trailer looks like it's going to be another one of those movies with a 'really funny' cast put together that will try too hard to be funny.

I hope it's just a case of it's a bad trailer for what will be a good movie & they've tried to fire a lot of comedy moments into trailer in an attempt to put more people in seats, but I hope it's not the general tone of the movie were I'll be bombarded with 1 liner after 1 liner.

I didn't laugh at all at this trailer. That's a scary sign... hell, I laughed at the trailers for The Boss and Spy.

Nothing wrong with making the lead characters women or taking a new approach to the material, but it's not funny. I hope the final film will fix that.

I kind of hoped this would be a good trailer to surprise everyone and be an underdog story but the trailer really did nothing for me, but the good thing is you could have had four men in the trailer saying and doing the same and it would still be bland so at least there's that. Its not the girls fault they haven't been given much to work with it seems.

And just think, these are probably the funniest jokes.

That trailer did absolutely nothing for me. It wasn't funny and just further made it feel how pointless this movie is.

After a few more clicks, I know there's a lot of stuff I really, really like (Kate McKinnon, all the gadgets, the Ecto 1, the ghosts, the logo being an important part of the story) and a lot of stuff I really, really don't like (Leslie Jones, the over the top slapstick from the last bit, the ghost-ecto-barf from the beginning, the green screen from the New York sequence). So, overall... I don't know. I really don't know what to expect. I guess I'm gonna have to go and find out by myself.

I will say some of Feig's other movies have had mediocre-bad trailers but I ended liking the movie or I heard that the movie was a lot better than the trailer. Hope that happens

Just watched the trailer......omg its dog**** Melissa McCarthy is just the same person in all her film's and is still living off bridesmaids and I got a massive pixels vibe watching it so yeah not good

Nope. Not even.

Not a big fan of the trailer but that's just false.

Pixels + Scooby Doo = Ghostbusters reboot

Agreed. Also, I've enjoyed these ladies in other things, it's just this particular trailer isn't good.
