The New Ghostbusters - Part 7

I don't remember many people saying that, at all. Maybe a vocal minority of supporters. FF4 also didn't get anywhere near the attention as this film.

Perhaps it didn't, but I recall viewers, critics and fans everywhere were of the mindset that we'd see it anyway (as Michael Jordan put it) because it was a superhero film, and it would be a hit despite the protests.

Right. :hmr:

I don't think anybody really cared about it. There might have been some pulling for MBJ because of the backlash (and he was definitely not the issue with the film), but ultimately it came and went without much attention. It was also panned by critics.

Whether you like it, love it, or hate it, emotions are high for Ghostbusters and for one reason or another, people care about its existence. Certainly doesn't guarantee box office success, but it'll help that opening weekend. People are going to want to know what the fuss is about. And as was mentioned in the post before yours, Sony is keeping the spotlight on the sexism and that's what the GA hears, that people are upset with the film because it stars women. That's what I hear from conversations outside of the my nerd communities and it has stirred some folks to see it because of that.

If this gets panned like BvS or Fantastic Four, it won't make much. It's not going to have an opening weekend like BvS that sustains the drops and still makes over $800 million.

Feig is a respected director. There is no Trank in this scenario. This might pull off a decent amount of money without nerds. Feig isn't beholden to having to please fan boys by jumping through hoops at comic conventions. His movies have made money with women. Add in the little girls who will want to see this.

Feig didn't pull a Trank, but that doesn't mean he's not infallible.

Also, Bridesmaids, The Heat and Spy have something in common: content that was both original and R-rated. Ghostbusters doesn't have either of those luxuries.

but it DOES have this...

so, ya know, almost as good :o

Good God, why does Kate McKinnon always look like she wants to eat the skin off someone's face?

Even my dad was just on the phone with me and goes "what the **** is this, they're remaking ghostbusters?" I asked him oh you saw the trailer? He said he saw a tv spot I guess and said "looks ****ing stupid". Hahaha

Yes, we're all saying it looks dumb and will never ever go see it, but come July....

I have noticed this on SNL. And the last thing she needed was for the real Hilary to show up and show her how bad she is at her impression.

If it reviews well, I might see it. But they really put me off of this with how they have handled this situation.

The blue ghost and Kristen Wiig are the only things I have liked in the trailers. Well that and Thor's bit about the symbol.

I don't think this will flop. Just disappoint at worst. But the reviews will be a real factor in its success. A bad remake to one of the most beloved 80's films will drop faster than anything.

This movie just feels so dead in the water. I just see it getting ripped apart on my facebook feed constantly ever since the new trailer dropped.

I mean, if it gets reviews I'm willing to give it a shot but the movie just has this toxic atmosphere around it that already feels...idk, exhausting?

The trailer's actually being received rather well on Facebook if you look at the main Ghostbusters page. Lots more likes and loves than negative reactions and it's been shared quite a bit.

Jesus christ, the number of articles I'm reading about people being accused of sexism for not liking what they are seeing is just getting out of hand now. **** this movie, not because it looks bad, but because it's causing the type of drama where no-one can have an honest opinion one way or another with being accused of something.

I really feel bad for the AVGN, guy doesn't deserve the venom being spewed his way

This whole situation is ridiculous beyond belief. You can't say anything bad about this film, you can't say anything good about it. There's always an element of sexism regardless of what you say and you're always being accused of being an social justice crusader regardless of how eloquently you make your point. Welcome to the 21st century, where everyone is offended by everything. This movie is not worth this level of drama.

I'm sorry, but he had to know he was asking for it with all the emotions running high. I have only one thought about AVGNs video...short, but pointless. "I'm going to ignore this movie and not see it to review it, but review it anyway based on its trailer and draw lots of attention to it." He'd been better off just ignoring it to begin with. Who cares if he's not going to see it? Did it honestly affect someone's opinion?

There is sexism involved here. Lets not deny that. Sexist love to take these kind of situations use them for their nefarious purposes. We have seen it in this very thread. We saw it with the racism involved with the FF reboot. But this also looks like a bad film, one that is a sequel to a beloved original.

Let's not pretend it's everyone.
