"As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I'm paying to see that and bringing all my friends!"

*Shrugs*

This doesn't "prove" anything for either the pro or anti-redo camp.

I have no fight in this battle, and will most certainly see the film (despite the "Eh" trailers). But the fact stands he has a producer credit and serves to profit off this doing well. He kinda has to say it's great. Just like any other producer of any other high-profile release would ahead of its opening.

Melissa McCarthy has done a lot of slapstick/low brow stuff, but that's not her entire wheelhouse.

First of all she's more of an actress than a straight up comedian. Her character in Gilmore Girls (her breakthrough role) isn't that similar to what people expect from her now, so she's not the one trick pony people are suggesting. Bridesmaids (her breakthrough role in film) obviously influenced what kind of other offers she was getting immediately after that. I didn't really care for many of her followup movies.

Spy is what restored my faith in her though. It was somewhat marketed as that kind of dumb slapsticky film people associate her with, but there was a lot of smart comedy and heart in it. I expected her character to be like her characters in Bridesmaids, Identity Thief, Tammy, etc, so I was shocked by how real, relatable, and likable she was. All of the side characters were great too, and Melissa's interactions with each of them were fantastic, especially the other female leads, Rose Byrne and Miranda Hart. I hope Ghostbusters takes what Spy did well in that regard and runs with it.

Yeah there was some physical comedy and ridiculous LOL moments too, like any other comedy, but they gave her a fully realized character for once and she did an amazing job with it. And they even poked some fun at the expectations people have for her through the writing.

I actually don't expect Ghostbusters to be as good as Spy because it's shackled by too many franchise blockbuster expectations, but I'm not ready to write it off yet, and I hope it does well because there's a lot of talent involved. Kate McKinnon is by far the best cast member currently on SNL.

Not sure anyone mentioned him, but I liked the inclusion of Slimer.
What made him popular enough to be the Ghostbusters ally in the cartoon? Never got anything of him from the old movies other than puking on Ray in the first film, and driving a bus taking Rick Moranis character to the museum in the second movie.
When did that happen?

The original Ghostbusters worked because it wasn't just some silly summer blockbuster. It had great chemistry between actors at the top of their game in Murray, Hudson, Akroyd, and Ramis.

This isn't to insult the actors in this adaptation but can you really not see this film's stars being interchanged with about a dozen other actors with comedic range out there now? Bullock? Blanchett? - not that I'd see those two in this but they'd bring a different angle - Silverman? A. Tyler? go younger and more genre specific and I could see Schumer. Schlesinger. Slate. etc.. no risks were taken with this movie and it shows.

I love Ghostbusters (it was creative and had inventive designs) and I'm looking forward to this remake, but yes certain movies are products of their time.

Like Revenge of the Nerds would be hard to remake because people don't view geeks like that anymore. Also, my God, the nerds are the actual villains in the movie. They do way worst things than the jocks.

They actually attempted to remake Revenge of the Nerds back in '07. It got canceled because of filming problems.

When did that happen?
In the hotel, passes real quick over Ray, and puts slime all over him.

Oh Danny boy
the retirement home is calling

I believe I've said this before, but I generally don't care for the kind of comedy that the four leads in this film are known for, and yet will be lining up to see the movie opening day because I like what I've seen in the trailers and what I've heard about it from official descriptions.

Well if dan Aykroyd says its good it must be good, cough plant cough took alot of money to say that cough.

This reminds me of last summer james cameron trying to convince audiences genysis was great.

Or what the leaked emails said about the studio taking legal action against the remaining 3 if they didn't play ball. And so far its on the money.

Ok then haha

That's fine and well, but do little girls really want to play with the latest Star Wars playset or whatever's more popular with girls at the moment?

Like I said, there's an abundance of female Marvel Legends on the racks that aren't being bought.

And I bet anything these female ghostbusters will not sell much.

That's why I always thought the constant complaining about the lack of female action figures was dumb.

Clearly...from what I saw at Walmart last week.

Guess those 3 empty pegs of $20 figures were bought by angry fans who are currently burning them in effigy with flames of their destroyed childhoods.

And speaking someone who as a little girl who had a Death Star playset next to my dollhouse, and a Skeletor figure driving my Barbie car...yes, we play with Star Wars and superhero toys too.

Marvel Legends figures are collectibles that cost upwards of $20...a parent who just wants to buy a regular action figure for under $10 are usually out of luck if they want to buy a female character. They just aren't there.

Watch what happened when this guy took his daughters to Target after Guardians of the Galaxy was released:

Yeah, it's a problem. It's been getting better...but it's still a problem.

A major positive quality of this movie is that things that women aren't particularly represented is actually happening here. There's no excuse to skip out on female action figures because all of these characters are female. I mean there's still a shortage of Rey action figures compared to the other TFA characters.

Young girls are finally getting what they always wanted. Instead of stupidly thinking boys could never play with female character action figures or that girls don't play with action figures, the proof's here that there is not just a demand now, but there's always been a demand and this movie is filling one small hole and exposes many other unfilled ones.

While the man children will think it will fail and sit out where they think they matter and the movie needs them, instead the audiences who will pick up the slack will be kids (younger girls AND boys because they don't give two ****s about gender, rightfully so) with their families is going to be the driving force behind this movie.

Went to my comic shop this weekend, my daughter was wanting a small Gamora figure to go with the Milano ship she bought a couple of weeks ago. They didn't have any....but I did buy her a Marvel legends Gamora figure. It's bigger than all the other action figures she has, so it doesn't fit in with them.....but she's playing with it.

I think that's the only one they made. The Disney Store left her off of the t-shirts and hoodies for the movie too. I wouldn't get them for my nephew because of it.

There are also Big Hero 6 toys that left off the two girl characters. Apparently the movie was called Big Hero 4 in that universe??

I took that Ghostbusters picture because I was looking for the Rey action figure in that same aisle. I haven't seen a 3.75 Rey figure in any store since October.

Meanwhile, the hunt for Ecto Cooler continues....

Only 7 weeks left before this thing bombs.

Everywhere I read people mistrust Aykroyd comments on the movie, how ironic the effect this is having (generating mistrust in sites that usually have a cautiously optimistic)

I imagine he was contractually forced to give a positive opinion, and such an exagerated claim (nobody, even people that think that this might be good, buys that it has more laughs than the original) was his way of protest.
