The New Ghostbusters - Part 8

I would have actually been onboard with a movie based on the Extreme GB cartoon. If anyone remembers that. The characters were quite likable and it had a darker tone in line with the original film. Most importantly it was a group of kids from Igon's class handpicked by him. Making it have continuity. Would have totally preferred that and I would have actually been somewhat excited as the original guys still would have had a minor role.

I would like to know. If all the original GB actors were dead by the time Feig had decided to reboot, would you still care if the movie were in continuity with the original movie?

Or would you want them to recast for likeness to maintain the illusion of being the original timeline or something else?

One, that's a drop in the bucket. A handful of characters over 5 years and 100 movies isn't a lot.

Two, that wasn't the argument. The point is who gets to dictate when isn't okay to be reimagined in whatever way they want?

Look at that anger over the Harry Potter play in England with a black Hermoine. Who gives a crap?! It's not like there will never be another white actress to play her and there already was one. Race changing is a part of theater culture.

Ghostbusters can be anything. 2 men, 2women. A three man team. 4 women. 3 men and 1 woman. All could be Ghostbusters.

Just being 4 women didn't invalidate it as Ghostbusters any more than getting 4 terrible male comedians would make it a GB movie.

You can change whatever you want, just don't expect people to like it. I strongly believe it does no-one any good trying to reinvent that film, it doesn't do anyone involved any good, it doesn't do the audience any good. You're better off leaving Ghostbusters alone and doing a different type of ghost catching movie with a new team. It's a no-win situation because Ghostbusters is so beloved and this new one regardless of the genders is doing everything possible to piss fans of the original off, borderline intentionally. You can't win people over that way. Sometimes it's best to just let things be.

I just catched the ending of a TV spot for Latin America with the original Ray Parker Jr theme. Is that a new thing?

Hey guys! If you live in Japan, the country's restaurant chain, J.S. Burgers Cafe, has put together a new Ghostbusters-themed menu that will be available July 1st-Sept. 30th.

Start with the appetizer: the "Black Chilli Chips."

Then open wide for the main course: the "G.B. Burger."

This giant stacked burger includes purple cabbage and a black olive and anchovy paste!

But wash it down with a "Slimer Smoothie," a kiwi-flavored drink topped with burger-shaped candy.

And if your not full with all of that, feast your eyes at the monstrosity that is the "Marshmallow Mad Burger!"

Filled with marshmallows stuffed Oreos, and a red jam-like substance dripping from the top of the bun.

You want food? Who are you gonna call? LOL

I would be cool with that.

So they are making a new ghostbusters cartoon now set in 2050? ironic it took this long before sony milked this machine and now they are its just gonna be a dozen new versions of ghostbusters... i dunno how i feel about that, Sony just want new franchises so bad they may end up dragging the ghostbusters idea into the ground.

Don't forget they're trying to do the whole "universe" thing with a new all male Ghostbusters movie they're planning after this one.

I would love to see the thing with Tiamat and Gozer.

Finally listened to the new version of the theme. It definitely sounds like it was written for a montage.

I am curious what the reaction will be if the reviews are good. Though, I think I saw quite a bit of it already in this thread...

They will be accussed of going soft on it, being afraid of being labeled sexists. I know I will have a hard time believing positive reviews, and harder thinking they are in the majority.

Isn't it out next week in the UK? I saw TV spots and they're usually only around the week before a film from what I remember...

UK release is July 11.

Question. Are press screenings held for different groups of critics at different times?

That's kind of a loaded way of going into it. Either way your opinion is justified .

The guy who said July 4th has been overeager about Ghostbusters and got an interview with Paul Feig.
