Yass! I've been saying this for years. I can't stand it when actors do goofy voices and try to pass it off as "comedy."

Well considering what makes money these days, kids seem to be a better judge then adults on what is good.

Yeah, the early responses has really, really colored the "criticism" of the movie. I'm sorry, but I've seen the same kind of reactions and responses in various other situations to not be able to recognize the underlying sexism in the early criticisms. The criticisms became a bit more fair once trailers started showing up.

You can dislike it for reasons that are not sexist. That doesn't mean there was not sexist backlash. Again, this is not an "either, or" situation.

I think it helps that the movie seems to be taking cues from the cartoon for the appeal to the kids. I know that the cartoon and toys were much, much stronger influence on me than the original movies.

I honestly barely remember the show, but I know I watched it. I was very much into the two movies. I would go around saying, "Vigo" like it was going out of style.

Both genders are sexist. You flip this scenario, guarantee - you'll have more women than men raising hell about it. Not saying those screaming about this movie being trash only because it has female leads are correct in any way, but that both men and woman are sexist. Yes, women are sexist too - it's not only a trait that some men can have. I can accept feminism because personally I couldn't care less, I just can't stand when it becomes "holier than thou" when women bring that up against men who aren't even remotely sexist. Yeah, more men are against it - obviously. Just like more women would be against a property that traditionally starred women replacing it with an all male cast. No surprise there. Feminists are gonna hate me for saying this, women are sexist too.

I both loved and hated the Fright Feature toys. Even at 10 I disliked the blue proton pack so I painted and weathered mine to look more like the movie proton packs.

Racism, sexism, those ideas are built on long standing social structures. We have had a few millennium of women being treated as "inferior". Hell the US is still rather new to the concept of treating women as "equal". Can a woman "hate" men? Of course. But sexism as a social concept is based in the systemic practice based around the inferiority of women that has been around for a lot longer then the Ghostbusters.

So the idea of comparing any situation that would be reverse is ridiculous. It is not the same thing, and won't be until we have a few hundred years of say men being told what they can do with their bodies women, not being allowed to vote by women, men missing job opportunities just because they are men, and being married off by the women in their families. You know, that kind of stuff.

It's also subjective. This new Ghostbusters film is kinda proof of that. Some man mentions why they don't care for this interpretation, no matter how well articulated they explain their reasons for not wanting to see the film some people will still accuse him as harbouring internalised misogyny, based on no evidence other than gut feelings. I note with interest I've yet to see any woman who objects to this film on similar grounds be subjective to the same accusations.

My first thought when I saw the trailer was how the hell can they get away with Leslie Jones' character of being the stereotypical white man's comedic option? It's so freaking obvious it's amazingly stupid. I had to go read up on who she is actually playing and of course, she's the streetwise, MTA worker. I can't be the only one bothered by this???

A silly question, but are Ghosts going to be caught at all in this Movie? With the Ghost Shipper, the knuckle duster and those Proton Pistols, and seeing in the Trailer how they're being used, their gear appears to be designed to just quickly destroy Ghosts.

And if Ghosts are getting caught, how do they do it? Because with them taking on what looks like to be an entire Ghost army, they'd need to have a few thousand traps.

I can see Feig retiring after this, to be honest. Or just quitting directing for a long time and being a producer on stuff. The stress/pressure/anxiety has to be unbearable.

I predict this will kill a few careers. In fact, has there ever been a more hated franchise film from fans since Batman & Robin? I can't think of one. Feig is possibly our Joel Schumacher.

He's probably exaggerating. I won't argue how much we've seen.

The problem I see that you can't really negate with the how much we've seen argument is that visually, it looks like it was shot like a comedy. The visual flare doesn't match the originals or today's modern horror films. Ivan Reitman shot the original visually like a horror film of its era. This new Ghostbusters visually looks like a Feig comedy with a bigger budget to allow for various CGI creations. I don't see how one can argue the visual flare changes throughout a film. A film tends to have a consistent visual flare.

And regardless of how much we've seen, the humor we *have* seen makes it look like a spoof of Ghostbusters than an actual Ghostbusters movie.

Also, the guy on Twitter who originally said the review embargo lifts today (it isn't) had guessed that the Stay Puft here is a parade balloon, but that doesn't change the fact that it's CGI and it looks video game Pixels level CGI.

They have traps, but the ghosts from the finale are all sent back where they came from after Wiig and McCarthy seal the dimensional portal from the other side.

It isn't based on gut feeling. It's kinda obvious.

When people aren't interested in something/there's nothing more complicated going on emotionally, they don't talk about it continuously for months.

That's it. That's how guys work.


I'm not saying these guys hate women, but in the case of Ghostbusters it's bringing up an ugly side of their emotions towards women.

No, this bothered me too. I'm all for this film subverting stereotypes (such as a female team and with Helmsworth as the secretary), but it seems like it's only something the filmmakers are using as a shallow gimmick. I'm also side-eying the decision to make Helmsworth a himbo which is just another stereotype of secretaries and which is objectifying (although I have to admit he at least looks funny which is, you know, a plus in a comedy).

Granted, it's not like these are problems that are unique to this film, and it shouldn't be singled out while other films get a pass, but it just goes to show how narrow-minded Hollywood is about this stuff. And of course, if it flops, Sony will cry sexism but behind closed doors will just use it as an excuse to dismiss other female-lead projects instead of putting effort into making them work.

I will still say, however, that I think the film still looks funnier than the average dumb summer comedy, McKinnon looks awesome, and I appreciate that Sony at least had the intelligence to cast women for their comedic skills.

I can't even think about a time that's ever happened. I've seen race/nationality changed but never a woman turned into a man.


Female main characters are usually love interest so that would make the main male character gay wouldn't it?

I am too i never liked the actress but having to use her as a stereotype in a film that's trying to be progressive is not the right thing to do.

With respect to this opinion, I'm more annoyed she's literally this movie's Winston. She's the 4th Ghostbuster, who admittedly seems like she might show up earlier than he does, but she's s the streetwise
African-American character who isn't a scientist but can pull her own weight. If it'd been switched out with another actress in this role, it might've been ok, but in this case, it feels like completely lazy writing.
