so the consensus is: "it's fine"

That's what Ive been getting so far

I thought you meant they said things that implied they hated women and were in favor of male superiority. This was a bit different then that.

I didn't say that. Just that women are (according to the study) around half of those sending aggressive tweets aimed at women.

The article itself calls it mysoginy and I double checked the meaning in case I was confusing it with something else with a similar meaning. I didn't see a mention of male supremacy.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/misogyny

Misogyny is a hatred of women. A teenage girl talking trash about her teacher is not because she hates women, no matter how disgusting the language. A woman fat shaming another woman isn't because she hates women.

Who is using it and the reasoning behind the use of the phrases is kind of important. You know like the long conversation over a certain word used to disparage black people for the entire history of this country.

The vast majority of men don't hate women. If they did the entire species would die off.

Anddddddd again the thread gets all serious and talking about sexism. Jesus Christ haha.

The writer of the article and those publishing the study have no problem as labeling those tweets as misogynistic. Why bother to ask for a source if all you're going to do is reply they're women therefore they can't be misogynistic?

While some may simply be using misogynistic language I don't see how their gender automatically excludes them hating other women. The language used is certainly misogynistic. I've seen some people echo the sentiment that some women don't like female comedians.

I recall a boss of mine years ago saying his Rhodesian landlord preferred letting out to white people because he didn't trust other black people. That still seems pretty racist to me even if it is towards his own kind.

I'm also reminded of this film about a self hating Jew. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Believer_(film)

I'm not saying that the tweets necessarily are from radical self haters, but that some of their actions and some of their views could be called mysoginist.

Edit: I'll make this my last post for tonight. Between not wanting to derail the movie thread any further and needing some sleep I think it's best to take a break here.

Internalized misogyny is a thing. Dictionary definitions of these things are useless considering there are tons of theory that give these words currency.

Seems like. Although, interestingly, the backlash seems to be working in the movie's favor. I am reading these reviews and a lot of them almost feel as if the reviewer is looking for something to praise, almost desperately. As if they are conceding it is a bad movie, but don't want to call it one so they are finding hollow praise and calling it average. I think there might be something to be said for the theories that critics are afraid of being labeled misogynistic so they are giving it half-hearted average reviews.

The reviews are also curious because once the movie bombs (and with the way it is tracking, it probably will), I expect a lot of backlash from its makers and more adamant public supporters, basically calling audiences misogynistic.

Yeah the average score so far is 6.6 which is, at least where I went to school, a D. It's like: "You passed but it's nothing to be proud of" but that might change. Really surprised they have the consensus up already though. That seems really really early even with the number of reviews

BvS got an average score of 4.9, whereas Civil War, Finding Dory and Zootopia got 7.6-8.1. 6.6 isn't horrible.

There gender doesn't necessary exclude them, but if you read the article it shows what it classifies as abusive tweets. They do not read misogynistic.

Hate to tell you but the vast majority of us want to love women.
The vast majority is not all. And considering the amount of physical, mental and sexual abuse against women, that minority is a small amount. That is before we get into loved ones as those abusers.

Review scores aren't a test. I mean if you have been indoctrinated by video game reviews, sure, 6.6 means the movie is terrible. Honestly, it really just means that the reaction has been "meh". Not a great movie, not a horrible movie. Which is fine, as an individual will have to determine for themselves whether they like the movie or not. Tastes are different, so that is okay.

I never said that 6.6 means the movie is terrible or that 6.6 is a terrible score.

I think 6.6 means it's passable. It's fine but nothing to write home about.

There is a variation of enthusiasm on all sides.

On RT I feel like it is about average.

And you are deluded if you think you'll ever get all. There will always be wackos from both genders who dislike one and other, so please, spare me the hippie BS and accept the world for what it is - not perfect. The majority of men want to love women and vice versa, that is an undeniable fact.
