Good old successful female led hunger games

The Hunger Games is the 15th highest-grossing film franchise of all time, having grossed over US$2.9 billion worldwide.

Yeah, I definitely knew Zoe before Avatar. I didn't know Kate before seeing Titanic because I was 10 lol. Still wondering how I sat through that in the theatre without complaining ....

Look at those selfish little kids. Enjoying their childhoods at the expense of so many disrespected ones, blissfully oblivious to the fact that this movie is an offensive symptom of Hollywood's lack of originality, and thus should have never been made in the first place.

If only I could take the happiness out of their hearts, show them the error of their ways. But I can't. They will have a good time, and I can't do anything to stop it.
Original Ghostbusters will always exist. It is readily available. That this has a chance to create something like that makes it more then worth the effort.

I am a Jane Austen nut, so I watched Sense and Sensibility even though I was a kid. It made over 100m WW, which was quite a bit back in the mid 90s.

A+ satire

I checked my local theater for the preview night showings and only two seats have been taken lol

Its not so much how many see it on its first showing or whatever its more whether it holds or drops

Which is why you needed to come here and say that?

I wanted to show you how much I don't care by going out of my way too tell you. Because I don't care, which is why I came back. :funny:

No I really came to basically thank everyone for taking the passion out of my hate, this thread made me realize the futility of arguing with either side in here
But the smugness is helping, thanks, keep it coming

Hey, don't judge, I always buy an extra seat to put all my food on.

You pay for the seat beside you for your food? This is the first time Ive ever heard of someone doing this.:funny:

Everyone I know including myself just take the seat beside them and use it to hold their purse or popcorn. They dont pay for it.

Pretty sure i was a joke Marv. :funny:

We all do what you do, as long as there is the space.

And a fairly loud contingent dismissing Rey as a Mary Sue.

From my experience....the people who hate something are always the loudest on the internet. So saying there is a "loud" anti group is like saying there is a "wet" group of swimmers over there in the pool.

You pick any actor, any character, and situation in any movie....you will find a group who is against it. So to me....saying there is a group against something is like saying 1+1=2.

The trailers and advertising have been wretched beyond belief with idiocy along with the debates, but stoked to see this is getting decent reviews.

Really want this franchise to continue one way or the other.

It's funny when you tell people who really don't spend time on the internet about these things that go on. My entire family had no idea there was any controversy over the new Ghostbusters movie. I told them about it and the reaction was basically...oh for crying out loud, go outside. :funny:

But it's hot. :csad:

In all fairness, there are an awful lot of men that have a moral obligation to explain things to you. You get enough representation in film, and you should be happy with the handful of examples you get. Think of the men! Think of their struggle to keep women from thinking they can be smart, funny, and bust ghosts!

During the whole saga about missing Rey action figures when TFA came out, someone sent me a link to a Rey figure that was on ebay from a seller and Japan and said, "See, there are Rey toys? What are you complaining about?"

 Who is "those guys"? I understand being afraid of Rothman just on principle itself, but I'm a little confused by what you mean here.

Sorry for the late reply.

I was referring to us. People like us who see the trailers, see the news, casting, crew, etc. and give our opinions. And if we all say "this looks like crap", I'm afraid they won't listen to us and instead will continue on with a bomb on their hands, instead of seeing the problem and fixing it so it can be successful.

They are doing that with the marketing, because the marketing has been bad because they are using the complaints to insult people who like the original and creating the idea that "these people hate the movie because its women." We're like "NO!", because they won't listen to us.

Also the problem comes down to this - we need more women in Hollywood behind the scenes. Talking as a man in Hollywood I am not comfortable with writing female protagonists because I don't know the first thing about what women face. Thus, I stay away because it's not what I know. It would just feel fake and inauthentic, thus I stay away. Guessing many guys feel the same. We need more women behind the scenes. So it goes beyond just characters, that's a symptom. The real problem is the lack of representation women have in the Hollywood industry as a whole.

I've gotten to see two musicals on Broadway in the past year, Fun Home and Waitress, that were written by women, and wow...you can tell the difference when women write shows with female protagonists.

And it's not like I prefer one over the other, there so many brilliant male composers, obviously...but wow, I hope this opens the door for more female creative talent. I feel like we need those voices represented more than they are now.

Anytime I mention to my wife what the posters on here are going spastic about she rolls her eyes, shakes her head, and says they need to read a book.

No offense but that's just creatively lazy. A woman shouldn't get a job writing cause she "knows" women. A white woman doesn't understand the culture of black or Latina women just because they all have vaginas.

Your belief you write men well is subjective anyways. You simply write what you know then start from there. You can't just write an authentic Indonesian male who grew up in 1995 Jakarta with no effort.

As someone who would like to be an artist professionally. It's the challenge of seeing other women and men at the top of their game that inspire me to try. No one is good at everything. That's why we need more POC and female voices.

My two girls are so excited to see this on Thursday night. I took my 17 year old son with me when I saw the test screening, and he loved it. I'm not in the least bit concerned with the hurt feelings of man babies who think that somehow this movie will destroy their childhood retroactively.
