The New Ghostbusters - Part 9

I feel a bit like the movie is a lost cause.
Because its mainly not about the movie, but about the audience.
Its about the attention it gets/got, instead of the movie itself.

Look at all the talk it got before the release.
The people who didnt like it for various reasons, got called misogynists.
Those who liked it, where called SJW or so.

Now its the same with reviews.

How many "reviewers" are worried that they get attacked by the SJW and therefore give it a good rating?
How many just simply want to start a fight and give it a low score?

I feel like no matter what you do, the movie will never get the Rating it should get.
Whatever it would be under normal circumstances.

This feels like the opposite of batman v superman with critics and fans. Fans wanted good reviews for that as opposed to here fans want bad reviews.

Very weird how quickly fans and critics change.

True.

Trackign is saying the main people interested are women over 25 and that it might open at 40-50 mill. But tracking can be wrong...
I think with the positive reviews it should be a little over $50 right now. Social media tracking improved yesterday too. But this movie will be tricky, audience is too polarized

Its a bit like that yeah.
Before BVS came out, you barely saw people who didnt like the trailers and everything they saw, then it came out and boom.

With the New Ghostbusters it is pretty much the opposite of it.
A lot of people ripped every trailer and every info to pieces, but it seems to be a good movie now.

So just like with BvS, you wont find a common ground when it comes to "critical" opinion.
You can only go by the money it will make.

To anyone that saw the new film, can you answer in spoiler tags if the original Ray Parker Jr Ghostbusters song is featured in it?

Has big competition too. Pets will still be big, next week Star Trek comes out and Ice Age (idk about that) and then Jason Bourne. And Im pretty sure this will be front loaded

They shouldve waited until Halloween to break this out

I just got the whole "you don't like it because its girls" argument recently from someone who I really wanted to punch in the face for their stupidity. I didn't want to see it because it looked like crap, and had real problems that the studio and the marketing mocked us about, to which that person is part of. It is NOT an actual thing to say?!

Going along that, I really don't understand people who are saying: "I'm a feminist so I'm going to see it even though I don't think it looks good" or things of that nature.

By that logic I shouldve gone to see all of Tyler Perry's movies.

I get the trailer but its so ridiculous that any video that even hints at the idea of GB possibly being good gets a large number of dislikes.

Didn't even notice that. Thought it was one of the better videos simply discussing the Movie, without resorting to insult either side for clicks.

Now that i have heard from at least 4 people that this is also a male bashing
film, even worse than what the movie Waiting to Exhale made men look like
my credit card will not be swiped at the theatre kiosk nor will any cash be handed over for this movie

I know you weren't talking about that specifically, but that's really something that Feig and Jones shouldnt have done. That wasn't a good look.

I know they were getting criticized a lot, but you gotta let the movie do the talking rather than stooping down to others' level

If it's frontloaded, it's doomed. Opening weekend is not going to be huge so it depends on having superb legs (like 3x, 4x multiplier)

Yeah, Halloween would have been a perfect option for a horror themed comedy. Even audiences not interested in the movie are in the mood for something silly.

I said this a while back this film was in a no win situation for literally anyone. All the marketing had to do was show a decent trailer and the vast majority of this nonsense wouldn't have happened. But instead the trailer sucked and Sony tried to shift the blame, deleted comments on Youtube to make it look like it was being overrun by sexists, and all they and the director did afterward was fan the flames and revel in the controversy. The irony in all this is the film seems to be, at worse, watchable, which means Sony have done nothing but piss people off and lose a big chunk of cash before a frame had been seen, all because of they had no idea how to engage people and promote this film. As a long time fan the way the Ghostbusters name has been treated over the last 12 months has been nothing short disgraceful, it's been dragged through hell by people who frankly could give two ****s the brand or the fans.

I agree with that, one shouldn't see this movie or any movie for that matter out of some obligation or duty. I think the film over all looks like it might be fun, an ok movie, but fun/entertaining none the less.

Anyone see the newest video from moviebob (ironically one of the biggest sjws according to the knuckle draggers) agreeing with people saying this movie doesn't look good but doing it without acting like a spoiled child and blaming teh women's

It talks about if the series is actually franchise material I'd watch it it has crusing so I can't link to it

The intro was good. :funny:

Exactly this, they did themselves no favours at all

I will say this about the cast and director though, while people were basically saying it looked bad in the trailers it was very much them who jumped on the sexist bandwagon to try and twist things to make themselves feel better but maybe they failed to realise its not that they are women its that they are producing a product based on a beloved movie and to a certain extent a franchise of cartoons and games so if their instant backup is sexism then maybe the biggest part of making the movie for them was that they were women and their feelings were hurt by the response rather then them being aware that they were playing with nostalgia and you have to treat nostalgia very carefully.

Sony: Eh oh the response hasn't been great so far for this movie, you know what this means right?... we need to put in more nostalgia

Audience: oh look a stay puft balloon and slimer has a gf... thats stupid :whatever:

Sony: We just can't please these SEXIST *******s!

So the movie is not an outright disaster as most predicted according to the critics so far but the marketing was atrocious I've always said I'm a fan of McKinnon and Wiig the other 2 not so much

just like TMNT & 2 some of us old guys may not like it but the kids love it and that I can't be mad at I bet when TMNT 91 came out most adults couldn't be bothered with it but it wasn't made for them I see the same thing here it's not made for the "man child" in us it's made for today's kids
and that pic a couple of pages ago with Wiig and a girl dressed as a ghostbuster was so adorable how can u hate on that :yay:

I'll wait for my usual youtube reviewers (stuckman and Jahns) to see if its something I would enjoy I usually agree with the 2 mention quite a lot

So what is the ending cliffhanger/post-credits scene that is apparently so controversial?

I think it's the [BLACKOUT]Zuul in the recording[/BLACKOUT] that we have known for a while. I don't know why it's controversial, other than not wanting a sequel and not wanting [BLACKOUT]this to be related any more to the original GB[/BLACKOUT] :hehe:

Has anyone seen this yet?

I was listening to the radio and the guy who watched it gave it a 7/10 but said there was enough "men are stupid" references/comments that it was noticeable.

I've seen it now.

What I can say is that it is better than I thought it would be. It's a fun popcorn summer film, however, it's a forgettable film. Is this film entertaining? Yes, but there is nothing about it that makes it stands up next to the original. The 4 leads work pretty good together as a team with chemistry but beyond Kate McKinnon's wacky character, this new team is nowhere near as strong as the original team. Speaking of the original team, there are cameos but for me whenever one of them showed up on screen, I wished we were watching a continuation of the original films. Also, there seems to be an anti-male theme in this film as most male characters seem to be idiots or just plain mean. But Chris Hemsworth is hilarious. He should be doing more lighter films as he can be quite funny. Also, the villain is shockingly weak.

With that said, it does have some very entertaining moments and great special effects (most of the ghosts do look pretty cool) and yes, you will laugh but for me, there is too much silly slapstick humour with a certain cringe-worthy moment. Then again, this is a Paul Feig movie and it feels like it. There is nothing wrong with a Paul Feig movie (Bridesmaids is awesome!) but in the end, I think the film would have been better off in the hands of someone else.

Overall, there was greatness here that wasn't realized. I feel this film missed an opportunity to make a great Ghostbusters film with a new diverse team with males and females working together as equals. This film is fun but forgettable.

5/10
