This is a confusing thread because - unless I'm reading it wrong - the guy who created this placed a negative tone on the 'IT Person' status, and listed guys who were shoved down our collective throats and but failed to live up to expectation. Guys in whom didn't capture the public's imagination (well maybe Shia to a degree) or ignite an unhealthy lust from Fanboys and Fangirls.
I think there's a difference between 'rising star' and 'it guy' because 'the it status' is an outdated measurement created by Hollywood hoping that their 'push' of this star will equal major box office. But we live in a new era: the digital age is pretty much the new wild west where 'stars' don't matter as much (only a few).
While Fassbender and Cumberbatch will be more exposed in the next few years, I don't see it as a negative because we need new stars. New talented stars that I failed to see in Taylor Kitch or Sam Worthington. Those guys were pushed arbitrarily or through sheer luck without paying as much dues as some other guys, while I was able to see guys like Fassbender, Hardy, Gosling, and Gordon-Levitt grow naturally with their indie stuff.
PS: You can argue though that Channing Tatum was the IT guy of 2012, and I actually think he deserves some of that success. He's the new Keanu: sure, I don't think he's the greatest actor but I also like his presence in most of his roles.\ and i like how he proved naysayers wrong this past year with a number of hits. GI Joe 2 underestimated his newfound fame and guess what? They're filmed more scenes with his character hence the delay. He's the meathead underdog, and he's really unique in that aspect.
