The last thread goes back five years and since a new series/era is upon us I figured a new thread was in order

Saban re-acquires rights to 'Rangers'

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118019212.html?categoryid=14&cs=1

The Power Rangers have come home.
Haim Saban's newly formed Saban Brands company has re-acquired from Disney the rights to the "Power Rangers" franchise that built Saban's fortune in the mid-1990s. Saban has cut a deal with Nickelodeon for 20 new "Power Rangers" episodes, while the library of some 700 older segs will begin airing on cabler Nicktoons later this year.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it's likely that the property commanded a price tag in the nine-figure range. At the time Disney acquired "Power Rangers" along with its acquisition of Fox Family Worldwide in 2001, the franchise had grossed an astounding $5 billion in retail sales alone.

The series that will be adapted is "Samurai Sentai Shinkenger"

It's a very decent series

I must admit that since Power Ranger's quality has dipped over the last 7 years i've completely went over to the Japanese side(Super Sentai series)

BUT i'm willing to bat for both teams. I know some people who have turned a blind eye to only side and i'm not like that.

With that said, the power rangers return.

Are they still going to film in New Zealand?

I'm glad it's back. No child should be without the memories of watching fast dubbed and splice Power Rangers in their childhood.

Yes, they'll still be filming in New Zealand, not L.A. as was assumed when Saban bought it back

Funny how the pink one must be "beautiful" and the yellow one must be "cute"
I thought it was the other way round?

Glad the Power is back. Just hope that it does well, and that it's still a part of the overall series and not a reboot. Like to see the show go on for a few years, and then bring a old cast member back for a mentor role. Like Tommy;expect let them do things this time.

To bad about filming in NZ:csad:

You see I think the series NEEDS a reboot. This should definitely start fresh. Not ties to anything, not even MMPR.

Sucks that they are still going by Disney standards and jeez I know its zlist hollywood but that casting call is just lol with all the "Male-hot, Male-hot". And going back to non-union, Saban wasnt the best with those. But hope the show is good and proves me wrong.

Some on other boards have noticed that these cast descriptions are nearly identical to the "Shinkengers" personalities

Mako(ShinkenPink) is regal and incredibly gorgeous.

Kotaha(ShinkenYellow) is subbing in for her sick sister and is the young cute one

Interestingly enough, the original casting sheet at Actors Access has been re-released today, with a short note of thanks about interest in the project:

"Thank-you for the wonderful response on this project! It has been great hearing from everyone. If you have not submitted, please continue to do so. I will be scheduling auditions for LA next week and will begin seeing talent the first week of June and through-out the month. I will hold one casting day in San Diego."

I really wish they weren't filming in New Zeland... But whatever.

IN SPAAAAAACE!!!!

I'd long outgrown the show by this point, but this season sounds awesome! I wish I'd caught the Psycho Rangers.

I dont get hat you mean. Essentially every season is a reboot

i hope saban the best of luck with PR again, and i hope he can make it as success as the show first was back in the 90s. Cant wait to see how everything turns out.

I kind of think of Power Rangers as Generations, almost like with Transformers.

Gen 1: Mighty Morphin' - In Space
Gen 2: Lost Galaxy - Wild Force
Gen 3: Ninja Storm - RPM

Gen 1, of course, the Zordon era.

Gen 2 is the post-Zordon era; new cast each season with only a slight connection with the past Gen particularly with Lost Galaxy and Forever Red.

Gen 3 is the "Disney Era"; with practically NO connection with the Zordon era at all, except Tommy.

Mighty Morphin Through Space are all linked, storywise.

Then the crap seasons all link back to that once Tommy just randomly shows up again.

Let's make this season the first time any such thing as a Power Ranger exist again.

Whatever Saban does with the show, I think I'm going to have to seat my nieces in front of that show and keep them away from all the Hannah Montana-type crap. We're already working on the "Go Go Power Rangers" song while we re-watch the ABC reruns on Saturdays, so she should be ready by the time the new show comes out. I'm willing to bet the show will pick up with the latest Ranger incarnation, but hopefully have a much closer connection to the rest of the seasons than some of the previous ones have. Maybe include some Power Ranger alumni as mentors again, so the chances of reunion episodes can happen more naturally than Forever Red or Once a Ranger.

On the idea of a new PR movie, THAT should definitely be a reboot of the original series in the same respect of JJ Abrams' Star Trek, where you essentially start from scratch, while still paying tribute to what came before. I think that would definitely do some good for the Power Rangers franchise, and I think technology is finally where it needs to be, so we don't get the clunky CGI Megazords that we had in the first movie. Think more along the lines of Transformers-type CGI robots to give the idea of linking fighting robots some credibility and realism.
