The New X-Force

Looks good. I'm actually looking forward to this a lot now, especially if they're actually tackling some fresh character stuff with Wolverine. I can't recall seeing Wolverine have to deal with people who are more bloodthirsty than he is. That should provide an interesting dynamic for him.

I agree with you there. It definitely opens the door to explore the dynamics of mutation categories within the X-books. I've always wondered if, for instance, telepaths believed that they were superior to other mutants. You know, like the propaganda started with interracial mixing?

I also like the idea of Logan being weirded/freaked out by the others' actions and attitudes.

Yeah, me too, it's a nice sign of character progression since he's looking at a bunch of younger versions of himself.

Yeah. Kind of weird when you consider that, in light of Warpath's newfound rage, the hierarchy of viciousness from least to most in X-Force is now something like Rahne, Wolverine, Warpath, X-23 (unless X-23 has begun fighting her baser instincts like Logan's done for years; I don't know, I usually avoid her at all costs).

Rahne holds back, and rightfully so. I'd put it at X-23, Warpath, Logan and then Rahne.

I'm excited for the inevitable moment when Logan kicks Scott's ass for even putting him back in the situation he worked so hard to get away from, via the X-Men, no less.

Logan doesn't seem to be complaining in the previews.

From most vicious to least? Because if so, that's the order I had, only reversed.

You're right, he's not exactly complaining in the previews, but isn't he already a little taken aback by all of this? I can't imagine him enjoying this for too long.

From most vicious to least, yes. Logan has simmered since his early years. He's got no problem with killing, but James and X-23 seem to want it. They need to kill some people, and they need to do it as brutally as possible.

Yeah, Logan's not having that ****. That's one of the main problems he had with Sabretooth and we all know how that one ended.

Yeah, I agree. Rahne is easily the least vicious, ironically because she's the most animalistic. She's forced into her viciousness by her mutation, when really she's a pretty gentle person. I look forward to seeing her balance that conflict between her two sides in X-Force.

I like the fact that Logan completely does not want her on the team, for her own sake.

Yeah, that's another nod to Logan's own struggle with his bestial side. I like that he'd willingly spare anyone else from suffering what he's gone through for years now. If only more writers would write Wolverine that way, instead of as a one-note brawler who just likes to fight.

Is this title already out or something? Because I have no idea about any of this stuff you guys are talking about (except from the previews).

I hope we get to see Logan turning more towards the woods again. I always loved the issues where he'd disappear somewhere in the forests on the school grounds.

Rucka nailed it, as far as I'm concerned. The scenes with Logan and Kurt in particular were awesome.

Yeah, the issue where Logan basically confesses to Kurt over beer is awesome on so many levels. They should've let Kurt stay a priest. :o

Someone--I think it was Austen--revealed that the church Kurt had entered the holy order through wasn't a real church or something. Then Kurt was like, "lol, never mind, I didn't really want to be a priest anyway." But it also devastated him.

It was stupid.

Wikipedia is surprisingly lax on details itself:
Wiki said:
Wanting to devote more time to priesthood, Nightcrawler shares team leadership with Archangel. However, his work as a priest is revealed to be an illusion; he had, in fact, never attained priesthood. This and the controversial "truth" behind Kurt's parentage are revealed by writer Chuck Austen.

No, what they revealed is that the Church of something (not Humanity, it was that Church from Casey's run) had made him think he had become a priest. They were planning to make him Pope, then reveal him as the Anti-Christ (as he'd use an image inducer), and some other cooky stuff would help with exploding wafers.

Uh...
