The next big X-men event.

There was stuff like the X-Corporation, too. Global organizations working toward the mending of mutant/human relations, according to Xavier's vision. That had a lot of potential. Plus, the school aspect of the Xavier Institute was reinvigorated thanks to Morrison's run; at least they've kept that intact.

I'm not so terribly disappointed in the path Marvel took, though. The reduction of the mutant population has resulted in some great stories in X-Factor and, I'm told, pretty much anything else involving Quicksilver.

The X-Corporation stuff left a bad taste in mouth, mostly due to Banshee's portrayal. That was horrible characterization, in my opinion.

Also, the culling of the mutants was a stunt done for sales, there's no question about that. That said, the Quicksilver stories (especially Silent War) have been very well done. I haven't been following X-Factor much, but I hear it's great as well. I just haven't gotten around to it.

I remember the XSE too, great idea

Def check out X-Factor photojones. But read Madrox's mini first if you can.

Whats so bad about having millions of mutants?

Mutants are also a real easy, and crappy, way to do orgins of superhero's and villians.

Nothing really happens, then they hit puberity and boom!, then can kill or save everyone in the universe.

Mutants make for real lazy comic writing.

That comment has become as lazy as it implies the writing is.

Maybe, but that doesn't make it any less true.

It pretty much does. It's a baseless opinion to begin with. The mutant origin for a hero/villian is NOT what makes it lazy. It's what the writer chooses to do with the character that makes him either creative or lazy. Wolverine's a mutant. His origin is anything but "Oh, he's a mutant".

And on top of it all, you would have never even had the thought "mutant origins are lazy" had you not heard/read it elsewhere. Looks to me that you're the lazy one.

I agree. The concept of "mutants" is far from a lazy idea. Even though there were all these mutants, there still were different types and mutiple connections. I mean, besides the x groups, think of groups like the morlocks, the Hellfire Club, the brotherhood of evil mutants, the externals(although short lived), Genosha, Mutant Town, the XSE, the New Mutants, etc. plenty of story to go around. There was such a rich and vast history to create from. It would seem like a writers dream to have a mutant book or control of mutant characters. The problem was that writers were getting lazy and wanted to go with the "hot" thing which was non-mutant superheroes, who up until Avengers Dissassembled, were getting pushed to the side. Now everyone is trying to create or resurrect the next Moon Knight, instead of trying to develop Danielle Moonstar (good character, even w/o powers). But oh well, we'll see this fad fade out and then Marvel will bring back it's million mutant march.

First Joe Q comes in and he has to where to the reduction of the mutant population happens then has a Civil War to where all superheros had to register and maybe so just make them all illegal. And Marvel maken deals with Stephen King. It sounds like Marvel wants to slowly to get out of the superhero comic business and try other forms of comic stories from bestselling books.:csad:

You're joking, right?

Y'know what's hilarious? Didio didn't like the fact that the Marvel universe was crammed full of stray superpowered D-listers running around with no origins, making the entire idea of having superpowers less unique. So he went and ordered the Decimation...getting rid of virtually every single D-list mutant...and yet, Marvel is STILL crammed full of stray superpowered D-listers running around with no origins!

Hello, the Initiative? Where in the name of blue poo did all of these superpowered teenagers come from?? Stray D-list superhumans are always going to exist in this medium. It wasn't a problem before and it isn't a problem now, but Didio somehow thought it was a problem before and not a problem now even though nothing really has changed from before to now...?

Are you seriously this dumb?

Didio, huh?

...Huh, y'know, the post actually reads funnier that way. I'm keepin' it.

I need sleep.

I'm just saying as I see it. That's all.:csad:

Well, you're seeing a ****ed up version of reality that doesn't exist. Superhero comics are what sells, kid. And just so you know, Marvel's been doing comics based on other properties for years. Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't.

I'm just saying as I see it. That's all.:csad:

With the way you see things, you overreact way too much.

The way you think that DC is doomed because Marvel has been beating it in sales since forever. Also ignoring the fact that Marvel is churning label after label such as Avengers: Disassembled, House of M, Decimation, Civil War, the Initative, World War Hulk, Annihilation, etc.

Marvel is not going to stop making superhero comics. Superheroes is their bread and butter. They just want to make new stories that don't involve their characters such as Dark Tower, Halo, classic novels, etc.

Who knows? They might actually broaden the fan base; get more people interested in reading comics.

Exactly. Fans of Halo are going to want to read the new Halo comic.

Where I work, there is a person who is a huge Stephen King fan and heard about the Dark Tower comic. So she asked me to try and get as many issues as I can for her.

I've never even played Halo, but with Alex Maleev handling the art, I'm in.

Since Mister Sinister is involved, I imagine this event will concern the attempt to revive the mutant population.

The X-title writers have been mostly been dancing around the Decimation and the mutant community because there's really not much of a core premise left (although Brubaker's next arc deals with the fate of the Morlocks, who just don't die; how many times have they all been killed by this point?) to write about.

Morrison's idea about a large population of mutants was the right one, although he also destroyed Genosha, which I think was ultimately a mistake (the "mutant nation" concept plays against Xavier's more integrationist viewpoint).

My point is that hard-core fans of Halo that love the story of the video games are going to want this Halo comic. Hard-core Stephen King fans are going to want Dark Tower.

And his point, is that Hardcore comics fans are gonna want a Halo comic because Alex f**king Maleev is involved.
